In this paper, the best achievable tradeoffs between /spl Delta/, R/sub e/ and R/sub c/, that maintain reliable estimation of V is characterized. The attack-free version of the public problem of joint information embedding and entropy coding, where the covertext, the watermark and the stegotext are drawn from finite alphabets. It is possible to attribute a different watermark to each codebook, and thus, the watermark can be correctly retrieved according to the codebook to which the composite sequence belongs. The achievable rate region can also be expressed in terms of the maximum achievable embedding capacity. The watermark by the joint typicality property of the decompressed composite sequence with the source sequence and the watermark are evaluated.

This paper presents a VLSI prototype for Context-based Adaptive Variable Length coding (CAVLC). This scheme is a part of the lossless compression process in the MPEG-4 Part 10 standard. It is applied to the quantized transform coefficients of the luminance component during the entropy coding process. In combination with previous transformations and quantizations, it can result in significantly increased compression ratio. The developed architecture is prototyped and simulated using ModelSim 5.40. It is synthesized using Synplify Pro 7.1(R). The results show that the architecture satisfies the real-time constraints required by different digital video applications.

The JPE -2000 image compression standard is increasingly gaining widespread importance. The rich ariety of features makes it highly suitable for a large spectrum of applications but at the same time its associated complexity makes it hard to optimi e for particular implementations. One the key step during the processing is entropy coding that takes about 0 of the execution time. e propose in this paper a hardware implementation of a dual entropy coder that is used as a coprocessor to the general JPE -2000 flow within an industrial system ( ind Ri er SBC40 P platform).

Motion estimation and compensation combined with wavelet transformation has been beneficially applied to improve video compression efficiency and accuracy. Based on the similar motion structures between the decomposed subimages, wavelet domain video compression can be improved by means of the simplifications in motion field refinement as well as in motion vector representation. Although the utilization of the motion field correlations between the same orientational subbands can achieve better compression performance than that between the approximation subbands, the computational load has to be traded off. Since most of the energies are concentrated in the low resolution subbands while decreased in the high resolution subbands, by considering both the accuracy and complexity, an efficient approach, called level-refined motion estimation and subband compensation (LRSC) method is proposed. It realizes low-entropy coding in the subbands, while keeping low computational load in motion estimation, thus to achieve both temporal compression quality and computational simplicity.

The LL subband from the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) in JPEG2000 is actually a smaller sized compressed image of the original in spatial domain. In this paper, we propose a tamper detecting and retrieval scheme to extract and hide special characteristic values of the entire LL subband in the level one subbands, 1LH and 1HL. The hidden data will be used later with a digital signature and a public key to prove the authenticity of the image. Tampered areas could be accurately detected and recovered with quality that is visually acceptable. Our scheme can be used to authenticate sensitive images like the medical images, to prove rightful ownerships, and to recover images before the originals are available.

This paper proposes a new shape adaptive integer wavelet transform (SAIWT) based progressive transmission coding scheme for 2-D and 3-D brain MRI. This scheme consists of: (a) extraction of shape information (mask) by morphological operations; (b) 2D/3D separable biorthogonal 9-7 SAIWT; (c) intraband wavelet encoding of the foreground object. This object based coding greatly improves both overall progressive transmission performance and lossless compression; (d) entropy coding of resulting bit stream and differential coding of the boundary of binary mask. The performance of shape adaptive scheme (both 2D and 3D) is superior to the conventional rectangular based schemes at all bit rates.

The transforming of mapping image data from RGB to YUV color space serves to reduce the correlation between components and it is suitable for human visual system. The line-based wavelet transform completes the column wavelet decomposition after each line is received in accumulative mode and it can reduce the memory utilization. The improved lifting scheme is adopted instead of the original Mallat arithmetic in this paper. It fulfills the CDF9/7 wavelet transform and reduces the complexity of the arithmetic. In this paper these two methods are both used. Experiment shows that these methods can save the memory utilization and reduce die time of the arithmetic implementation.

Efficient multimedia encryption algorithms play a key role in multimedia security protection. One algorithm known as the MHT (multiple Huffman tables) method was recently developed by Wu and Kuo (2001; 2000). Although MHT has many desirable advantages, it is vulnerable under the chosen-plaintext attack (CPA). In this work, an enhanced MHT encryption scheme is proposed to remedy this drawback using the idea of key hopping. It is demonstrated by mathematical analysis that our proposed scheme is secure against chosen plaintext attack.

We propose a hardware accelerator IP for the Tier-1 portion of Embedded Block coding with Optimal Truncation (EBCOT) used in the JPEG2000 next generation image compression standard. EBCOT Tier-1 accounts for more than 70% of encoding time due to extensive bit-level processing. Our architecture consists of a 16-way parallel context formation module and a 3-stage pipelined arithmetic encoder. We reduce power consumption by properly shutting down parts of the circuit. Compared with the known best design, we reduce 17% of the cycle count and reach a level within 5% of the theoretical lower bound. We have implemented the design in synthesizable Verilog RTL with an AMBA-AHB interface for SOC design. FPGA prototyping has been successfully demonstrated and substantial speedup achieved.
