We designed a prototype for testing feasibility of a proposed light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system, which was designed to encode pixel location information in its laser pulses using the direct-sequence optical code division multiple access method in conjunction with a scanning-based microelectromechanical system (MEMS) mirror. The prototype was built using commercial off-the-shelf optical components and development kits. It comprised of an optical modulator, an amplified photodetector, an MEMS mirror development kit, an analog-to-digital converter evaluation module, a digital signal processor with ARM evaluation kit and a Windows personal computer. The prototype LIDAR system has capable of acquiring 120 x 32-pixel images at 5 frames/s. We measured a watering pot to demonstrate the imaging performance of the prototype LIDAR system.

These code blocks are used to map a block of data and design coded modulation schemes. Several classes of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are proposed as an error control coding (ECC) scheme for a non-linear satellite system with the phase-shift keying (PSK) signaling. The bit-error rate (BER) performance of LDPC codes is determined by means of an advanced simulator that takes into account all major impairments in the transmission link between fixed ground stations over a non-regenerative geostationary (GEO) satellite. Our analysis includes the following impairments: the degradations caused by simultaneous influences of cross-polarization effects, undesired signals from neighboring satellite systems or terrestrial radio-relay links and phase noise produced by local oscillator at the satellite station and reference signal extractor at the receiving ground station. The proposed LDPC codes are compared against standard ECC schemes employed in modern satellite communication systems.

The effect of high reliable and efficient forward error correction schemes is analyzed. Interconnect Performability is introduced as a unified measure of performance and reliability. A detailed comparative analysis of different forward error correction schemes is presented using performability analytical models taking into consideration voltage swing and the impact of noise power. In this paper, we present a method to classify hyperplastic and adenomatous polyps of large intestine semiautomatically. First, Doctors locate the contour of the original polyp images by using other software package. We determine if there are gores on the polyp by using modified Sobel operator on eliminating specular reflection pixels of original color images. We then get the polyp's texture by summing the gradient magnitude of pixels within the polyps. After detecting the actual contour of the polyps, we can determine if the polyp's contour is obvious or not (i.e. if the polyp bulges smoothly or not). We then observe whether the polyp's color is redder than or whiter than its neighbors. Finally, we classify the polyp of the intestine by applying the above steps. The flow chart of classification is as shown in Figure 1. We apply our method on 77 color images with polyps of the intestine and compare the results with a doctor's diagnosis.

In this paper, we examine some of the challenges concerning error correction and multi-hop communication in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We consider Bose, Chaudhuri and Hoquenghem (BCH) codes with different codeword lengths and error correction capabilities. In contrast with previous works, that implement coding algorithm in hardware and consequently used hardware energy profiling, in this work we consider a more realistic assumption that the node's p-processor performs coding and energy consumption of decoding is measured using JouleTrack. Energy efficiency is used as the performance metric for communication and the interaction of multi-hop communication and coding is investigated. Simulation results show that communicating long packets is more energy efficient. If communication is multi-hop with sufficient number of hops, then, the uncoded system is beneficial. However, coding is inevitable in the case where intermediate nodes, when needed, are not available.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common and deadliest forms of cancer, accounting for nearly 10% of all forms of cancer in the world. Even though colonoscopy is considered the most effective method for screening and diagnosis, the success of the procedure is highly dependent on the operator skills and level of hand-eye coordination. In this work, we propose to adaptfully convolution neural networks (FCN), to identify and segment polyps in colonoscopy images. We converted three established networks into a fully convolution architecture and fine-tuned their learned representations to the polyp segmentation task. We validate our framework on the 2015 MICCAI polyp detection challenge dataset, surpassing the state-of-the-art in automated polyp detection. Our method obtained high segmentation accuracy and a detection precision and recall of 73.61% and 86.31%, respectively.
