To address the challenge of high manual measurement cost, heavy workload and difficulty in real-time collection, a multiparameter remote wireless monitoring system based on LoRa is proposed. The system uses sensors to form a terminal monitoring network, named the LoRa wireless data transmission radio to form a wireless communication network, and the serial port server connects with the host computer through TCP/IP protocol to establish a two-way communication between command issuing and data uploading. To meet the needs of temperature, humidity, and CO2 monitoring in the curved room, a monitoring network was built, and the temperature and humidity CO2 integrated sensor was utilized. A corresponding host computer software was developed based on C# to process the detection data. The operation results show that the transmission of multiparameter monitoring data is smooth and real-time. The system achieves wireless monitoring of temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration in the winding room, at low costs and high automation. © 2024 SPIE.

With the advent of optical mesh networks, certain new protection schemes have been defined. This encompasses both local span and end-to-end path protection. But the implementations of these protection schemes have so far been based on proprietary mechanisms developed by each vendor. This has made it virtually impractical to construct a heterogeneous network with interoperable mesh protection schemes. Also, while the notion of a standard IP-centric control plane for optical networks based on Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) has gained wide acceptance, the work in this area has so far focussed exclusively on connection provisioning rather than restoration. This paper defines standard, IP-based signaling protocols for restoration in optical mesh networks. These protocols focus on a new local span protection mode and end-to-end shared protection. The main requirements on these protocols are simplicity and speed. The signaling mechanisms described in this paper are complimentary to the GMPLS provisioning mechanisms.

Significant enhancements of the flexural strength of a, and c- plane sapphire by means of "super polishing" was first reported by McHargue and Snyder [Proc. SPIE 2013, 135 (1993)). The improvement was attributed to the removal of residual mechanical polishing damage. More recently, a comprehensive series of experiments was carried out by Crystal Systems for the specific purpose of assessing the effects of various polishing procedures on the high-temperature strength of c-plane sapphire. Subsequent testing at room temperature confirmed that chemomechanical polishing improves both the effective strength and the strength distribution. In this contribution we take advantage of the methodology previously used by Klein et al. [Opt. Eng. 41, 3151 (2002)] to perform a correct Weibull statistical analysis of biaxial flexure-strength data generated in the course of Crystal Systems' investigations. We demonstrate that chemomechanical polishing procedures can improve the high-temperature characteristic strength of c-plane sapphire by 150 % and the room-temperature Weibull modulus by 100 %.

Data management has traditionally been a conservative practice, however, practical concerns such as system size, power, weight, and cost have created opportunities for the use of alternate technologies such as fiber optics. The use of fiber optics aboard the space station and the Small Explorer mission is evidence of this trend.

Modern global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) use Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) modulation to provide better spectral separation and code tracking accuracy, as compared to the BPSK modulation. In this paper, error control coding is combined with the BOC. These techniques primarily avoid interference by using modulation techniques that place energy at relatively vacant frequency slots in the occupied radinavigation band. Two variations of BOC - Alt BOC and Coded BOC are presented. These techniques combine coding with BOC modulation without increasing bandwidth requirement. The coded - BOC modulation scheme improves the robustness of radio navigation signals against additive noise than the conventional uncoded BOC modulation scheme.

Using lessons learned from error control coding, and multiple areas of life science, we propose a general purpose representation and association machine (GPRAM). GPRAM uses a versatile approach with hierarchical representation and association structures, each with different degrees of vagueness, over-completeness, and deliberate variation. GPRAM machines use vague measurements to do a quick and rough assessment on a task;then use approximated message-passing algorithms to improve assessment;and finally selects ways closer to a solution, eventually solving it. We illustrate concepts and structures using simple examples.

In this paper we investigate the performance of the parity bit selected direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) system using Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR). In this system information bits are convolutionally encoded prior to being used in the parity bit selected DS-SS system. Reliability of the detected bits in the receiver is calculated in the form of LLRs and then used as the input of a soft input Viterbi decoder. The performance of the proposed system is compared to conventional coded spread spectrum systems where no parity bit selected spreading sequence is used.

This paper gives an overview of electron beam dry scrubbing (EBDS) to remove SO_x and NO_x from flue gases of coal-fired power plants. It also describes the e-SCRUB program, a program currently underway to commercialize this process with an integrated pulsed electron beam. The electron beam, together with injected water and ammonia, causes chemical reactions which convert the SO_x and NO_x into commercial grade agricultural fertilizer, a usable byproduct. The e-SCRUB facility is a test bed to demonstrate the feasibility and performance of a repetitive, reliable pulsed electron beam generator operating at average power levels of up to 1 MW. This facility contains the electron beam generator and all the auxiliary and support systems required by the machine, including a computer driven central experiment control system, a 100,000 SCFM flowing dry nitrogen load which simulates the characteristics of a power plant flue, and a 2 MVA dedicated electrical service to power the machine. The e-SCRUB electron beam machine is designed to produce an 800 kV pulsed electron beam with a repetition rate of 667 pps. The energy per pulse deposited into the flue gas is approximately 750 J. The pulsed power system converts the utility power input to a 667 pps, 800 kV pulse train which powers the electron gun. The functional units of the pulsed power system will be discussed in the paper, along with some preliminary experimental results.

In this paper we study connectivity reliability of a large scale randomly connected ad hoc network. We first model the networks as random graphs, and then present a way to exam its connectivity reliability. The results show that if each node can randomly connect to 3 nodes, then for 99.5% of graphs we can trace to all nodes from one node. If each node can just randomly connect to 2 nodes, then the reliable connectivity can not be established.
