Wavelets - Applications in Signal and Image Processing X Conference

This paper introduces a class of wavelet packets based upon a set of biorthogonal basis functions. Using a Kronecker product formulation, we develop a self-similar factorization that obeys a set of perfect reconstruction conditions. This construction is then identified as a wavelet packet decomposition and is applied to the finite field case. Finally, it is demonstrated that the proposed wavelet packets can be applied as a well-known class of error control codes.

This paper proposes an audio watermarking method based on dynamic phase coding and error control. coding. The technique of quantization index modulation is employed for embedding watermarks into the phase spectrum of audio signals. Since most of the audio information is distributed in moderately low frequencies, to increase robustness, this frequency region is chosen for embedding watermarks. Phase modification causes sound distortion in a manner that is proportional to the magnitude. Therefore, the amount of phase modification is adjusted according to the magnitude to balance inaudibility and robustness, error control coding is incorporated to further increase reliability of watermark detection, The experimental results show that the watermarks could be kept inaudible in watermarked signals and robust against various attacks. error control coding is effective in increasing watermark detection accuracy remarkably.

Soft errors are one of the biggest reliability challenges for present day electronic devices. With technology scaling, the contribution of soft errors to overall device failure is on the rise and it is becoming the dominant reliability failure mechanism. Several techniques exist for the detection and correction of soft errors. Reducing implementation overhead is one of the areas which researchers were focusing on, and several optimization techniques are being proposed. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology, using error detection and correction codes to reduce the implementation overhead. We extend the earlier work on delayed capture methodology, and divide the total number of flip-flops into various groups and calculate the check bits for each group. This method exploits the reduction in the fault space which is generated due to single event upsets, and illustrates how the detection and correction implementation overheads can be minimized. Experimental results highlight the effectiveness of this technique. As compared to the original implementation, 44.80% reduction in area is obtained, without sacrificing the coverage.

Security and error control coding are two crucial aspects of the digital communication systems. The deployment of data transmission systems easy to eavesdrop, such as wireless systems, makes strategic the protection of the data secrecy. This paper presents an encryption scheme based on the dynamic observation of the reciprocal propagation channel between the legitimate nodes. A "session key", generated from the Complex Impulse Response (CIR) measurements, manages the channel coding system, namely a turbo-code. This scheme allows to jointly perform an error control and dynamic coding in only one step. This scheme allows a dynamic security coding without change of the hardware structure of the transceiver devices.

Optical disk storage systems use both error control (EC) codes and dc-free constrained sequence (CS) codes in order to increase the reliability of the data read from the disk. We present a method of integrating these coding techniques in order to overcome drawbacks with the conventional manner in which these coding procedures are concatenated. Our technique is based on the principle of multimode coding. Each source word (SW) is represented by a set of complementary EC codewords (CWs), and from this set the encoder selects the EC CW that best meets the CS goals of the system. The decoding structure avoids the problem of error propagation during CS decoding by performing error correction before removing the effects of the CS code. Power spectra of encoded sequences generated by a hardware implementation have a null at 0 Hz, confirming that these coded sequences are dc-free. BER simulations demonstrate the superior performance of this combined EC and CS code on a dc-constrained noisy channel(1).

The pulse width parameter of integrated circuits is an important technical indicator for measuring the system's high-speed performance and rapid response capabilities, directly affecting the device's response speed and accuracy. Achieving traceability of integrated circuit time characteristic parameters is fundamental to ensuring the core performance of the system. The pulse width calibration device for integrated circuit testing systems calibrates the system by reproducing the behavior model of the parameters. Traditional waveform generation methods typically rely on cyclical reading of waveform memory, resulting in complex system designs, high storage resource usage, and lower waveform accuracy. To address these issues, a standard pulse width and rise/fall time waveform generation module based on an "FPGA + DAC" architecture has been designed. By directly utilizing the timing logic resources of the FPGA, multiple data modules are set up to generate waveform data in parallel, making waveform parameter adjustment more flexible and reducing waveform generation response time. Additionally, with the integration of an internal time parameter correction module, the accuracy and stability of the generated signal's time parameters are further improved, meeting the requirements for high-precision calibration. © 2025 SPIE.
