This paper discusses the impact of interleaving and error correction coding on TCP throughput performance. Bulk TCP data transfers over an Ideal two-state fading channel are considered. Results are obtained through simulations of single bulk TCP transfers over high rate and large delay links. The simulation model incorporates effects of interleaving and error correction coding. Examination of the simulation results show that TCP with the SACK (selective acknowledgment) option achieves higher throughput for channels with correlated errors, in comparison to channels with uncorrelated errors. The simulation results indicate that proper selection of interleaving and error correction parameters can improve TCP throughput in cases of high error rates. A larger improvement is seen in case of longer delay links. The simulations also indicate that Improper selection of Interleaving and error correction parameters can further degrade TCP throughput for single flows. In addition, the results show that over-interleaving can lead to performance loss as connection delay becomes large.

error correction coding (ECC) plays an important role in the reliability improvement of circuits having application in space and mission critical computing-, low-power CMOS design-, microprocessor based computing-, and nanotechnology-based systems. Conventional ECC are not suitable for multiple bit detection and correction. A memory circuit holds both instruction and data of the given system and it is susceptible to multiple bit soft error problems. To mitigate such kind of problems in memory circuit, an evolutionary computing based new ECC called reconfigurable matrix code (RMC) is suggested in this paper. The proposed RMC are evaluated in terms of error correction coverage. The results show that the proposed RMC technique can drastically increase the Mean-error-To-Failure (METF) and Mean-Time-To-failure (MTTF) up to 50 % and hence the life time of the memory devices is more compared to conventional coding techniques based memories.

In the space radiation environment, there will be many errors in the multi-classification results of support vector machine which caused by single event flipping, the ability to correct classification errors through error correction coding is studied in this paper, results of simulation confirm that error correction coding can increase the accuracy, which is beneficial for anti-single event flip.

Described a recently proposed approach for representing the excitation sequence in analysis-by-synthesis speech coders, where the excitation vector is given by the transformation of a binary vector with values -1 or 1. In this approach, the storage requirement and the exhaustive search of the excitation codebook are completely ruled out, resulting into an extremely simple encoding algorithm. The issue of embedding error-correcting coding into the speech coder to combat channel errors is also discussed. Both convolutional codes and Reed-Solomon codes are investigated aiming at the overall bit rate of 11.4 kb/s.< >

Short Blocklength Nonbinary Raptor-Like LDPC coding Systems Design and Simulation

This paper explores an efficient rate-adaptive error correction coding scheme with a nonbinary (NB) GF(2(q)) extension of Raptor-like (RL) quasi-cyclic (QC) subclass of Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes. In the NB RL scheme, the high-rate (HR) code vectors are supplemented by the incremental redundancy (IR) symbols, generated by the parity check equations over GF(2(q)). We provide a procedure for constructing short NB QC-RL-LDPC codes with low encoding complexity and optimized graph structures. The proposed method is based on the graph optimization of the HR code and Monte Carlo simulation-supported placement of additional NB parity checks in the IR graph. Numerical simulations validate the approach, demonstrating the effectiveness of the constructed short NB QC-RL-LDPC codes, compared to the 5G standard binary coding with IR. Further exploration shows that, when the NB QC-RL-LDPC coding over Galois Field GF(2(q)) is combined with adaptive 2(X)-ary digital modulations, which provides flexibility in diversifying modulation orders by mixing higher order modulations for initial HR transmission with a lower order for IR, it can improve performance in the low Signal to Noise Ratio regime. In conclusion, this investigation shows that the Raptor-Like nonbinary coding, when the code and the transmission scheme are designed with proper optimizations, exhibits a performance improvement over the counterpart binary coding.

Beyond Traditional RFID: Unveiling the Potential of Wi-Fi, 5G, Bluetooth, and Zigbee for Backscatter Systems

Traditional RFID systems rely on dedicated readers, often expensive and bulky, hindering their widespread deployment. This paper proposes an alternative RFID system that leverages ubiquitous radio sources-Wi-Fi, 5G, Bluetooth, and Zigbee-to replace dedicated readers. Our system employs backscatter communication, where RFID tags modulate reflected signals from these readily available sources to transmit data. We investigate the feasibility and performance of this approach through Matlab simulator. Our results show that 802.11ax at 2.45 GHz exhibits the best symbol error rate, followed by 802.11n at the same frequency. However, 5G, Bluetooth, and Zigbee signals demonstrate lower performance even at high signal-to-noise ratios. To address this, we introduce error correction coding techniques (BCH and RS) that significantly improve communication reliability. Utilizing these codes, our system achieves a communication range of up to 1 m. This finding highlights the potential of ubiquitous radio sources as a viable alternative to dedicated RFID readers, opening doors for various applications.

Increasing storage capacity in multilevel memory cells by means of communications and signal processing techniques

Multilevel and analogue memory cells have the capability of storing considerably more than one bit of information per cell. The number of levels the memory cells can store is limited by noise and bit error probability. The authors propose using error correction coding and digital modulation techniques used in communication systems to increase the storage capacity of multilevel and analogue memory cells. They evaluate these techniques and find that compared to the methods that do not use coded modulation techniques. typically, one extra bit per cell (i.e. effectively doubling the number of levels per cell) in storage capacity can be achieved. The techniques can also be applied to improve readout bit-error probability and provide unequal en-or protection for the bits to be stored, The latter technique is important for the efficient storage of digitised multimedia signals such as speech, audio, image and video signals. One- and two-dimensional coded modulation schemes as well as uncoded multilevel digital modulation schemes are presented in detail. Complexity and speed issues are also considered.

Oversampled filter banks as error correcting codes: Theory and impulse noise correction

Oversampled filter banks (OFBs) provide an overcomplete representation of their input signal. This paper describes how OFBs can be considered as error-correcting codes acting on real or complex sequences, very much like classical binary convolutional codes act on binary sequences. The structured redundancy introduced by OFBs in subband signals can be used to increase robustness to noise. In this paper, we define the notions of code subspace, syndrome, and parity-check polynomial matrix for OFBs. Furthermore, we derive generic expressions for projection-based decoding, suitable for the case when a simple second-order model completely characterizes the noise incurred by subband signals. We also develop a nonlinear hypotheses-test based decoding algorithm for the case when the noise in subbands is constituted by a Gaussian background noise and impulsive errors (a model that adequately describes the action of both quantization noise and transmission errors). Simulation results show that the algorithm effectively removes the effect of impulsive errors occurring with a probability of 10(-3).

While random linear network coding is a powerful tool for disseminating information in communication networks, it is highly susceptible to errors caused by various sources. Due to error propagation, errors greatly deteriorate the throughput of network coding and seriously undermine both reliability and security of data. Hence, error control for network coding is vital. Recently, constant-dimension codes (CDCs), especially Kotter-Kschischang (KK) codes, have been proposed for error control in random linear network coding. KK codes can also be constructed from Gabidulin codes, an important class of rank metric codes. Rank metric decoders have been recently proposed for both Gabidulin and KK codes, but they have high computational complexities. Furthermore, it is not clear whether such decoders are feasible and suitable for hardware implementations. In this paper, we reduce the complexities of rank metric decoders and propose novel decoder architectures for both codes. The synthesis results of our decoder architectures for Gabidulin and KK codes with limited error-correcting capabilities over small fields show that our architectures not only are affordable, but also achieve high throughput.

Cooperative coding for OFDM systems

In this paper, we study Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems with cooperative coding over frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. We derive the pairwise error probability (PEP) for the block-fading OFDM channel model. We use the derived PEP to get an upper bound on the frame error probability for the coded cooperative OFDM system. This bound is then utilized in the study of the diversity and coding gains achievable through cooperative coding in OFDM systems for various inter-user channel qualities. We consider the design of cooperative convolutional codes based on the principle of overlays and provide simulation results for different cooperation scenarios. We observe significant gains over conventional non-cooperative OFDM systems. Finally, based on some simple approximations, we provide guidelines for the choice of partners in coded cooperative OFDM systems.
