The fault detection and exclusion (FDE) algorithm played a very important role in the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). When the WAAS was not available, the FDE algorithm could provide the monitored information for the navigation position solution. It could autonomously provide the integrity monitoring for the position solution, which it had a capability to detect and prevent a positioning failure that affected the navigation. An optimizing evaluation of estimation method was employed in detecting and isolating the outlying measurements for the satellite ephemeris error and the satellite clock error, which could assess the integrity risk in the WAAS. Therefore this algorithm could provide more precise integrity parameters of the satellite ephemeris error and clock error, which the method is more suitable at the master station for engineering application about the satellite.

Accurate estimation of power battery SOC(state of charge) is the basis of HEV power control strategy. SOC estimation algorithm has a significant impact on the accuracy of SOC estimation. This paper described the basic concept of SOC, discussed the significance of SOC estimation algorithm, difficulties and the main factors affecting SOC estimation, proposed a hybrid battery SOC estimation method with combination of extended Kalman filtering algorithm and improved Ampere Hour(AH) Method based on analyzing existed algorithms. Experimental results show that the hybrid SOC estimation method can meet the accuracy requirement of HEV SOC estimation excellently and is superior to the individual EKF method.

This paper presents a novel super-resolution time of arrive(TOA) estimation algorithm, which utilizes the primary synchronization signal(PSS) in LTE downlink. Unlike the conventional coherent detection algorithm with sample-level estimation accuracy, the proposed algorithm fully takes advantage of phase characteristic of the sampled orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signal to reach subsample resolution accuracy without increasing sampling frequency. With a number of simulation experiments, the efficacy of the proposed TOA estimation algorithm is validated by numerical results. The different performance shown in additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel and fading channel indicates that this algorithm can be used in open environment or indoors with high-precision positioning requirements.

The use of a non-linear estimation algorithm for retrieving the biomass and structure of vegetation from polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data is demonstrated for woody regrowth in Queensland, Australia dominated by Acacia harpophylla (Brigalow). By varying the size and density of trees and associated woody components (branches and trunks), multiple simulations of the backscattering coefficient (sigma(0)) were performed based on the SAR simulation model of [1]. Functions relating sigma(0) to these variables were subsequently used to generate spatial estimates from NASA JPL airborne SAR (AIRSAR) data. Above ground biomass was estimated from stem density and size measurements using available allometric relationships. The study demonstrates potential for retrieval of regrowth structure and biomass through non-linear estimation.

In a complex environment, because of the multipath effect, the ultra-wideband (UWB) signal will arrive at the receiving end by multiple propagation paths rather than a propagation path, and the multipath effect will bring the error to the accurate estimation of TOA. To accurately estimate the TOA value is actually to find the arrival time estimation of the direct path (DP). In this paper, a two-step TOA estimation algorithm based on time reversal (TR) is proposed in the complex environment. Compared with the traditional algorithm, the time reversal technique is no longer a method of restraining multipath effect in complex environment, but making full use of each multipath component so that it can significantly compress the multipath delay spread. The experimental results show that the two-step estimation algorithm based on time reversal can effectively reduce the impact of multipath delay on TOA estimation under complex environment and greatly reduce the amount of data operations, thus improving the TOA estimation accuracy in complex environment.

The inversion of physics-based models presents a promising alternative to empirical relationships for the retrieval of forest structure from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, one particular advantage being the ability to include information on soil and vegetation moisture. This paper describes a two-stage estimation algorithm for retrieving canopy and stem parameters, applied to AIRSAR data over a site in Queensland, Australia and validated using eight field plots.

Nowadays, regenerative braking system (RBS) is widely used in the electric vehicles. When the pressure sensor could not provide the accurate information to the control system, the RBS would be in failure state. So the redundancy estimation algorithm related to wheel cylinder pressure is necessary. In this paper, an estimation algorithm of wheel cylinder pressure based on the pulse signal from wheel speed sensor is proposed, there are two points proposed to achieve the wheel cylinder pressure estimation. One is the estimation of the vehicle speed according to the pulse signal of wheel speed sensor, where the estimation algorithm is improved to solve the problem that vehicle speed estimated by ABS is not that accurate at low speed. The other one is the estimation of the wheel cylinder pressure in the situation that ABS is not triggered, where it is based on the condition of braking force distribution, the equation of kinetics and the deceleration characters of traditional braking system. At last, the estimation algorithm of wheel cylinder pressure has been verified by road tests in sliding process in the target pure electric vehicle. The result shows the vehicle speed estimated is more accurate than before, particularly the stage of low speed, And also the front and rear wheel cylinder pressure estimated is in accordance with the observed value.

A novel estimation algorithm for torpedo tracking in undersea environment

A novel estimation algorithm is introduced to handle the popular undersea problem called torpedo tracking with angle-only measurements with a better approach compared to the existing filters. The new algorithm produces a better estimate from the outputs produced by the traditional nonlinear approaches with the assistance of simple noise minimizers like maximum likelihood filter or any other algorithm which belongs to their family. The introduced method is extended to the higher version in two ways. The first approach extracts a better estimate and covariance by enhancing the count of the intermediate filters, while the second approach accepts more inputs so as to attain improved performance without enhancement of the intermediate filter count. The ideal choice of the placement of towed array sensors to improve the performance of the proposed method further is suggested as the one where the line of sight and the towed array are perpendicular. The results could get even better by moving the ownship in the direction of reducing range. All the results are verified in the MATLAB environment.

A frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation algorithm for OFDM system and its analysis

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a parallel transmission scheme for transmitting data at very high rates over time dispersive radio channels. In an OFDM system, frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation are extremely important for maintaining orthogonality among the subcarriers. In this paper, for a preamble having two identical halves in time, a timing metric is proposed for OFDM frame synchronization. The timing metric is analyzed and its mean values at the preamble boundary and in its neighborhood are evaluated, for AWGN and for frequency selective channels with specified mean power profile of the channel taps, and the variance expression is derived for AWGN case. Since the derivation of the variance expression for frequency selective channel case is tedious, we used simulations to estimate the same. Based on the theoretical value of the mean and estimate of the variance, we suggest a threshold for detection of the preamble boundary and evaluating the probability of false and correct detections. We also suggest a method for a threshold selection and the preamble boundary detection in practical applications. A simple and computationally efficient method for estimating fractional and integer frequency offset, using the same preamble, is also described. Simulations are used to corroborate the results of the analysis. The proposed method of frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation is applied to the downlink synchronization in OFDM mode of wireless metropolitan area network ( WMAN) standard IEEE 802.16- 2004, and its performance is studied through simulations.

The paper studies the estimation of state of charge (SOC) of batteries. Firstly, the research status of battery management system, battery equivalent model and SOC estimation algorithm is introduced, and the performance of common equivalent circuit model and SOC estimation algorithm in complexity and accuracy is compared and analyzed. On this basis, this paper proposes an extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm based on the first-order RC model, and optimizes it by piecewise fitting. The accuracy of the optimized EKF algorithm is greatly improved. Finally, the modeling and simulation are completed through MATLAB/SIMULINK, and the experimental platform is designed and built to test the SOC estimation algorithm based on EKF. The simulation and experimental results verify the accuracy of the estimation algorithm.
