estimation and forecast accuracy of regional photovoltaic power generation with upscaling method using the large monitoring data in Kyushu, Japan

In order to optimize photovoltaic (PV) output curtailment control, forecasting a regional PV power generation are an important issue. Its estimation is also important as a basic step prior to forecasts. Upscaling algorithm is general approach for evaluating and forecasting a regional PV power generation because the number of monitored plants is usually limited. However, the method leads to large error when the characteristics of monitored plants differ from those of unknown plants in a region. In this paper, we analysed the errors on estimation and forecast of regional PV power generation with upscaling method by using monitoring data obtained from 2219 small PV plants in Kyushu, Japan. As the results, random sampling method has sufficient accuracy for day-ahead and short-term forecasts in case of the large number of reference plants, and unlike forecasts the minimum estimation error does not remain flat and continued to decrease as the number of power plants increased. © 2018

A critical issue for a proper energy management of a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is the estimation of its state-ofcharge (SOC). There are various methods available for the SOC estimation, being some of them robust and accurate, but requiring high computational power for its applicability, which is inconvenient for their use with the usual low-cost microcontrollers that build a typical BMS. This contribution proposes an SOC estimation algorithm based on a simplified Kalman Filter, that combines a high accuracy with reduced computational requirements. The proposed simplifications result from a careful analysis of the Li-ion battery performance and linearization of processes that entail negligible loss of accuracy. The proposed algorithm is used to estimate the SOC of a second-life Li-ion battery operating in an experimental PV self-consumption facility. Its performance, in terms of accuracy, robustness and computational requirement, is compared with an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), a Particle Filter (PF) and other low-performance estimation algorithms, proving its tradeoff between accuracy and computational cost.

This paper focuses on the estimation and analysis of the spatio-temporal features of the critical depth in the Philippine Sea. Firstly, methods for calculating the critical depth are presented. Besides a method using its definition, another method using only the sea-surface sound speed is proposed based on linear regression. Secondly, the seasonal variation and statistical characteristics of the critical depth in the Philippine Sea, as well as their mechanisms, are obtained using the data from Simple Ocean Data Assimilation (SODA) from 1996 to 2005. It is found that the currents have great effects on the spatio-temporal distributions of the critical depth. Finally, as the cycle range and the width of the convergence zone are very important features for sound propagation in the deep ocean, a model is presented to quantify the two parameters using the critical depth. The methods used in this paper also can be applied to analyze and estimate the critical depth in other sea areas.

A novel Gaussian mixture Sigma-Point. Particle Filter algorithm is proposed to mitigate the sample depletion problem. The posterior state density is represented by a Gaussian mixture model that is recovered from the weighted particle set of the measurement update step by means of a weighted Expectation-Maximization algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Widespread application to determination of radio sources location using wireless sensor networks is found by methods Based on TDOA- and RSS- measurements. In real conditions, it is often becomes necessary to consider existence of anomalous measurement results, which lead to divergence of traditional Kalman filtration algorithms of radio sources movement parameters. In work on the basis of a mathematical apparatus of the mixed Markov processes in discrete time quasi-optimal estimation algorithm of radio source movement parameters with complex use TDOA- and RSS- measurements of the sensor network, sustainable to anomalous measurement errors are synthesized. For the considered example, by means of statistical modeling, the developed estimation algorithm allows recognizing the appearance of anomalous measurement errors with a probability close to unit and eliminate their influence on the accuracy of determination of radio sources movement parameters.

A method is proposed for estimating a generalized bispectral matrix for fluorescent objects. The Donaldson matrix is constructed on the wide wavelength range over ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. We use neither an ultraviolet light ( black light) nor a monochromator. We present an algorithm for estimating precisely the general shape of luminescent radiance component as a function of excitation wavelength. The method is based on use of two light sources with continuous spectral distributions and a spectrometer. The two spectral radiance factors of reflection and luminescence are estimated from spectral measurements under the known illuminant spectra. The feasibility of the proposed method is examined in experiments in detail. The estimation accuracy is confirmed in comparison with the previous method.

Calculating entropy rate in physiologic signals has proven very useful in many settings. Common entropy estimates for this purpose are sample entropy (SampEn) and its less robust elder cousin, approximate entropy (ApEn). Both approaches count matches within a tolerance r for templates of length m consecutive observations. When physiologic data records are long and well-behaved, both approaches work very well for a wide range of m and r. However, more attention to the details of the estimation algorithm is needed for short records and signals with anomalies. In addition, interpretation of the magnitude of these estimates is highly dependent on how r is chosen and precludes comparison across studies with even slightly different methodologies. In this paper, we summarize recent novel approaches to improve the accuracy of entropy estimation. An important (but not necessarily new) alternative to current approaches is to develop estimates that convert probabilities to densities by normalizing by the matching region volume. This approach leads to a novel concept introduced here of reporting entropy rate in equivalent Gaussian white noise units. Another approach is to allow r to vary so that a pre-specified number of matches are found, called the minimum numerator count, to ensure confident probability estimation. The approaches are illustrated using a simple example of detecting abnormal cardiac rhythms in heart rate records.

This paper describes a database of synthetic patients for the use in estimation and control design in closed-loop anesthesia. The synthetic patients are represented by pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PKPD) Wiener models for the Depth of Anesthesia estimated from clinical data. The input of the Wiener model is given by the flow rates of propofol and remifentanil while the output is the bispectral index. A positive stable realization of the Wiener model describing the system dynamics is adopted to ensure a biologically feasible behavior of the PKPD system. Both time-varying and time-invariant versions of the models are available. An Extended Kalman filter (EKF) is applied to the clinical data to estimate the patient-dependent parameters of the Wiener model. The time-invariant version of a model is obtained by averaging of the time-varying estimates produced by the EKF. The performance of the Wiener model with estimated parameters is assessed and discussed. To illustrate the utility of the database, a PID controller is evaluated over the synthetic patient cohort. Coupling of tangential and centripetal acceleration components occurs in the estimation of rigid-body pose and twist with current accelerometer strapdowns. To address this shortcoming and its pernicious effects, a novel design of biaxial accelerometer strapdown is proposed. By virtue of its inherent isotropy, point tangential acceleration is decoupled from its centripetal counterpart, thereby realizing a straightforward and accurate acceleration estimation. The algorithm associated with the strapdown is validated by means of a numerical example, which shows the precision of the strapdown in estimating rigid-body pose and twist.

Joint direction-of-arrival (DOA) and range estimation based on frequency diverse array (FDA) have been a critical issue in radar detection, tracking, and navigation. This paper first proposes a bidirectional extension frequency diverse coprime array (BE-FDCA) to obtain an extended 2D virtual array with a larger degree of freedom (DOF). Furthermore, on top of BE-FDCA, we introduce a sparse reconstruction algorithm, referred to as SR-BE-FDCA, to avoid time-consuming peak searches. The algorithm includes two key steps: sparse reconstruction of Decoupled Atomic Norm Minimization (DANM) and 2D ESPRIT estimation. With the aid of these designs, our approach achieves more accurate DOA and range estimations. Finally, numerical simulations are implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
