This paper considers the application of the Polynomial Maximization Method to find estimates of the parameters Non-Gaussian Moving Average model. This approach is adaptive and is based on the analysis of higher-order statistics. Case of asymmetry of the distribution of Moving Average processes is considered. It is shown that the asymptotic variance of estimates of the Polynomial Maximization Method (2nd order) analytical expressions that allow finding estimates and analyzing their uncertainty are obtained. This approach can be significantly less than the variance of the classic estimates based on minimize Conditional Sum of Squares or Maximum Likelihood (in Gaussian case). The increase in accuracy depends on the values of the coefficient’s asymmetry and kurtosis of residuals. The results of statistical modeling by the Monte Carlo Method confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Algorithms for estimation of parameters of micromechanical gyros

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present and demonstrate the efficiency of utilization of a new approach for estimating parameters of micromechanical gyros (MMG) during their operation. It is shown that the main sources of errors are due to the following three factors: measurement errors of micron deviations of the sensitive element, unknown actual value of difference between the frequencies of primary and secondary oscillations and unknown value of damping constant for the axis of secondary oscillations. The estimation of the last two factors during the operation leads to a significant increase of accuracy of MMG. The solution of the problem is presented in the current paper. Design/methodology/approach - To solve this problem, an original two-level algorithm intended for use in the embedded MMG controller is considered. The identification of the internal MMG parameters is carried out at the first stage. At the second stage, an MMG model is created, based on the results of identification of parameters at the first stage. This model is used as a basis for synthesis of a Kalman filter for estimating the angular velocity. The ways of simplifying identification algorithms and filtering for the purpose of their practical implementation are shown. Findings - This paper presents the research results on the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Results of simulation are used to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in reducing the effect of changes in the design parameters of MMG on the accuracy of the angular velocity measurements. Practical implications - Proposed algorithms can be used in embedded MMG controllers. Originality/value - This paper presents a new approach for improving the accuracy of MMG by using a built-in algorithm for estimating parameters during system operation.

In neuroscience, data are typically generated from neural network activity. Complex interactions between measured time series are involved, and nothing or only little is known about the underlying dynamic system. Convergent Cross Mapping (CCM) provides the possibility to investigate nonlinear causal interactions between time series by using nonlinear state space reconstruction. Aim of this study is to investigate the general applicability, and to show potentials and limitation of CCM. Influence of estimation parameters could be demonstrated by means of simulated data, whereas interval-based application of CCM on real data could be adapted for the investigation of interactions between heart rate and specific EEG components of children with temporal lobe epilepsy.

This paper is concerned with the unstable autoregressive process which satisfies the unstable autoregressive(AR) model U(B)G(B)xt=εt , where all the roots of the polynomials U(z) and G(z)lie on and outside the unit circle respectively. We propose several procedures to estimate the coefficients of U(z) and G(z) separately, in order to guarantee that the estimated polynomials of U(z) and G(z) have all the roots lying on and outside the unit circle respectively. The estimators of the coefficients of U(z) and G(z) are shown to be of strong consistency. The limiting distribution of the estimators of the coefficients of U(B)G(B) are obtained for some special cases.

Mathematical Exploration of Malaria Transmission Dynamics: Insights from Fractional Models and Numerical Simulation

This study presents an innovative mathematical model denoted as the fractional SIP(H)-SI(M) model, which aims to analyze and understand the dynamics of malaria transmission and spread. This model is distinguished by incorporating memory effects through fractional differential equations, allowing for a more accurate and realistic analysis of disease spread compared to traditional models. The proposed model is applied to Algeria by estimating its parameters using recent health data (from 2000). The results revealed that the disease-free equilibrium is stable only when the basic reproduction number is less than one, indicating that controlling the spread of malaria and possibly eradicating it can be achieved by implementing appropriate preventive measures. Simulations also demonstrated a direct correlation between the rate of infection transmission and an increase in the number of infected individuals, highlighting the need for swift action when signs of an outbreak emerge. Based on these findings, a set of preventive measures is recommended, including insecticide spraying programs, widespread distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets, and implementation of effective treatment protocols for infected individuals. This study also emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring of health data and updating model parameters to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of preventive measures.

This paper concerns the problems of the parameter values estimation of d.c. electrothermal model of the BJT formulated for circuit analysis with SPICE. In this case, PARTS software available in SPICE cannot be used. In the paper, a new estimation algorithm for d.c. electrothermal model of the BJT is proposed. The form of the electrothermal BJT model is also presented. The estimation algorithm implemented into the computer-controlled measurement set allows one to derive the values of the parameters automatically after the measurements of the selected isothermal characteristics and proper calculations. estimation of the reaction kinetic parameters of a mimosa tannin-based thermoset resin with a simulation approach

This study presents the estimation of the parameters of the polymerization kinetics of a mimosa tannin-based thermosetting resin. A dual approach, experimental and numerical, was used. The numerical approach consisted in solving a time-dependent OD numerical model of the polymerization kinetics and the heat equation. Thus, the parameters were estimated by minimizing the difference between the measured and the simulation values for four different polymerization kinetics. During the mixing phase, the temperature was recorded in order to observe the impact of the mixer and the introduction of the polymerization catalyst on the temperature. The modelling showed that the reaction starts directly with the introduction of the catalyst and that this data should not be neglected in order to achieve the minimization. A numerical study on the effect of the simulation time showed a very limited impact on the estimation of the parameters. A simulation time of 350 s was chosen in order to better take into account heat losses. The four polymerization kinetics were consistent with the experimental data and the fit improved from kinetics #1 to kinetics #4 as the number of fitting parameters increased, but the results were of the same order of magnitude. In conclusion, this work presents a simple method from an experimental point of view but very effective for estimating the reaction kinetic parameters of a thermosetting resin based on mimosa tannin. The method can probably be adapted to other polymer systems.

Comparative study of pole placement methods in adaptive flux observers

A robust and accurate observer for IM speed estimation, not only at normal and high speeds but also at very low and zero speeds, is certainly important and desirable for sensorless IM drives. Many pole placement methods have been proposed to design a good adaptive flux observer that is less sensitive to IM speed;however, most of them have poor dynamic performance at very low and zero speeds. Four different pole placement techniques are discussed in this paper. Three of the four techniques are based on the generalization of existing methods. Authors propose the fourth technique, which is an improvement over the existing schemes. The feedback gain is chosen in such a way that the observer poles are unaffected by motor speed variations. Although all four schemes estimate the motor speed and stator resistance in real time, the proposed technique is superior to others in performance and robustness to motor speed and stator resistance variations and noises. Continuous flat-fading MIMO channels: Achievable rate and optimal length of the training and data phases

In this paper, we propose a simple framework for evaluating the required repetition rate of channel estimation for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in continuous slowly fading radio channels. An analytical formula for the interference due to the temporal variation of the channel coefficients is given and verified by link level simulations based on synthetic and measured impulse responses. The proposed interference model makes it possible to optimize the lengths of the training and, data phases under different performance criteria. As an example, we investigate the bit-error rate performance of MIMO systems with zero-forcing detection and determine the time, interval, after which the channel has to be estimated again in order to keep the error probability below a desired threshold. In the second part, the lengths of the training and data phases is optimized based on the information-theoretical capacity. It is shown that these lengths depend not only on the Doppler spread of the channel, but also on the antenna configuration and noise power.
