Optimization of surgical evaluation algorithms for living donor liver transplantation

Background: Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is an established and endorsed alternative for deceased donor liver transplantation with better recipient outcomes. Nevertheless, while extensive evaluation of potential donors is crucial, evaluation algorithms differ between transplant centres and guidelines. Methods: We included 317 individuals evaluated for LDLT between 07/2007-07/2022 in a retrospective analysis. The evaluation process was analysed to identify the key reasons for declining 77 potential donors. Additionally, 146 donors that underwent LDLT were analysed regarding risk factors for complications. Results: The main reasons for donor refusal were liver volumetry (40.3 %) and metabolic factors including obesity or steatotic liver disease (20.8 %). Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) identified 63.6 % of all declined donors;CECT combined with assessment of medical history, physical examination, blood testing and ultrasonography, identified 87.0 % of declined potential donors. Associated with this selection, complication rates in donors were low ( >= II in 17.1 %;none with >= IVb). Notably, higher age was a risk factor for developing a complication >= II after hemi-hepatectomy ( p = 0.0373). Conclusions: We propose a progressive 4-step evaluation algorithm that begins with a very basic assessment combined with up-front CECT. This early phase of testing is expected to identify nearly 90 % of ineligible donors, thereby conserving critical resources, time and money, as well as minimising burden for potential donors. The throat area for turbine guide vanes plays an important role in the smooth operation and overall performance of the turbine engine and is an important parameter for the design and assembly of the aeroengine. However, the accurate measurement and evaluation of the throat area has always been a difficult point in the field of geometry measurement. With the advantage of non-contact measurement of the three-dimensional optical scanner, an accurate calculation method of the throat area for turbine guide vanes based on the point cloud is presented. The throat area of the double guide vane is calculated by using the method of truncation plane, and the throat area for turbine guide vanes is measured and evaluated. Compared with the existing methods, the evaluation result is closer to the actual throat area for turbine guide vanes. Finally, the method of this paper was validated using the designed calibration model, and the error rate is less than 0.02%, which achieves good expected results. The method presented in this paper has the advantages of high measurement accuracy, high consistency of calculation results, and avoiding scratches on the blade surface, which helps to improve the efficiency of measuring and calculating the throat area. © The Authors.

High-speed train is of great significance in the modern comprehensive transportation system. Bio-inspired engineering design, with the excellent structural and mechanical properties of the biological systems, has been a widespread concern in the design of thin-walled energy-absorbing structures for high-speed trains. However, different structural characteristics have significant effects on the performance of crashworthiness and lightweight level. Collaboration matching of performance between design and operational processes considering the engineering requirements has become an urgent problem. This study constructs the finite element model of the horsetail-bionic thin-walled energy-absorbing structure, which is inspired by horsetail's structural characteristics. An existing high-speed train is set as the empirical case. The effects of the number of cross-section configurations on the performances of crashworthiness and light level are explored under the condition of train collision. A hybrid decision-making methodology that combines fuzzy DEMATEL and TODIM is proposed. The result shows the horsetail-bionic thin-walled structure with six-floor plates is the optimal alternative considering the multiple criteria. In addition, comparison with the existing methods and sensitivity analysis are conducted to validate the reliability of this proposed approach. This study provides an effective decision support tool for crashworthiness evaluation or structural feature selection of thin-walled structures.

In the electronic design automation field, as well as in other areas, problem instances and solutions are often subject to discrete changes. The foundational significance of efficient updates of the criterion value after dynamic updates, instead of recomputing it from scratch each time, has attracted a lot of research. In this paper, motivated by the significance of the sequence pair (SP) representation for floorplanning, we develop a fully dynamic algorithm of SP evaluation, that efficiently updates a criterion value after insertions and deletions of SP elements and after modifications of element weights. Our result is based on a new data structure for the predecessor problem, which maintains the whole history of its dynamic modifications, and the path-compression technique from the union-find problem, which efficiently support predecessor queries. Numerical experiments showed that our algorithm exhibits linear-time behavior and considerably reduces the time of SP evaluation, compared to other approaches.

There are several problems with the evaluation of the learning effect of physical education (PE) major courses in colleges, namely, the diversity of constraints and the lack of multiple perspectives. To solve the problems, this paper puts forward a novel model to evaluate the said learning effect. Firstly, the authors identified the problems and principles of learning effect evaluation of PE major courses in colleges, and established an evaluation index system from the perspectives of teachers and students. On this basis, an effective evaluation algorithm was developed to quantify the learning effect through gray clustering analysis. The proposed evaluation model can accurately assess the learning effect of PE major courses. The research findings enjoy great significance in theoretical innovation and engineering application.

Flow dialysis can be used to measure (i) ligand binding to macromolecules and (ii) the size of transmembrane ion gradients. Generally an approximate method is used to calculate the binding or gradient parameters from the raw data. Here we present a simple but exact method and evaluate the errors that may arise when the approximate method is used to calculate the magnitude of ion gradients. In addition, equations are presented that allow for a correction for sampling from or additions to the upper compartment of a flow-dialysis vessel during the measurements. Setty and Hendler [(1982) J. Biochem. Biophys. Methods 7, 35-46] have reported artifacts in the measurement of ion-gradients caused by the addition of electron donors to the upper compartment of a flow-dialysis cell. Here we extend their observations and suggest additional methods to prevent such artifacts.

Aiming at that the risk of perfect competition electricity market is limited information, the self-serving nature and the uncertain future, this paper presents a trust model BBTM (Behaviors Based Trust Model) that can evaluate trust relationship between participators by measuring participators' behavior and computing trust levels of participators. In this model, the hierarchical structure of the main factors that affect the trust value of participators is established by Delphi method, and Layer Analysis Process is applied to determine the weights of various factors. The trading quantity of electricity is converted to standard transaction numbers and standard transaction satisfactory numbers, which can prevent participators from cheating in large-scale transaction by accumulating trust value in small-scale successful transactions. The model can enhance the mutual understanding among market participators and promote them to provide the credible service to improve their credibility, which could ensure that the electricity market operates stably and effectively.

We are interested in supporting learning to program. Problem solving and its translation into a correct algorithm is an important issue. Automating the evaluation of learners' algorithms is a means to face the large and heterogeneous number of learners. In this article we propose an evaluation approach for introductory course programming exercises. This approach is based on a comparison of learner solutions to a model solution. This approach allows us to detect the difficulties of the learners (missing competencies) and lays the ground to propose feedback and adapted exercises.
