This paper describes the research, development, and implementation of a frame synchronization method for data transmission systems with short packets, specifically those that use nonseparable factorial cod-ing. The key concept of the method is using a permutation as a syncword. This permutation must satisfy the following condition: the minimum Hamming distance to all its circular shifts must be the maximum. The frame synchronization method employs correlation processing and majority processing of data frag-ments transmitted through the communication channel, where the fragment length is equal to the sync -word length. As a result, the proposed frame synchronization method can realize frame synchronization in data transmission systems with adverse noise conditions. Theoretical and practical assessment of the number of accumulated fragments required to establish frame synchronization indicates that imple-menting the proposed method reduces the amount of received data, which subsequently reduces the time required to establish a connection between the transmitter and receiver. In addition, interleaving accumulated fragments further reduces the required number of received fragments.(c) 2022 THE AUTHORS. The project was undertaken to design frame synchronization method for short packet communication systems with non-separable factorial coding. The method employs as a syncword a permutation with the maximum value of the minimum Hamming distance from its binary representation to all its cyclic shifts. The proposed method makes it possible to establish frame synchronism under conditions of high-intensity noise in communication channel. This result is achieved due to correlation and majority processing of the received fragments. The method can be applied to reduce synchronization acquisition time and to increase the stability of telecommunication system. An algorithm to apply the proposed method has been developed and implemented.

In a typical neurophysiological recording, the shape of the voltage trace due to an action potential depends, among other things, on the mutual geometry of the tissue and the electrode, and on the overall health of the preparation, These parameters change throughout the duration of the experiment, typically continuously and slowly, with occasional abrupt jumps. Here we propose a method to characterize such slow drifts by the estimation of a one-dimensional curved manifold, embedded in the large-dimensional space of spike shapes, along which the data cluster. We model each event as the closest point on this manifold, which is the maximum-likelihood expectation of its spike shape, and a residual, which can be analyzed subsequently.
