Generation of synthetic surface electromyography signals under fatigue conditions for varying force inputs using feedback control algorithm

Surface electromyography is a non-invasive technique used for recording the electrical activity of neuromuscular systems. These signals are random, complex and multi-component. There are several techniques to extract information about the force exerted by muscles during any activity. This work attempts to generate surface electromyography signals for various magnitudes of force under isometric non-fatigue and fatigue conditions using a feedback model. The model is based on existing current distribution, volume conductor relations, the feedback control algorithm for rate coding and generation of firing pattern. The result shows that synthetic surface electromyography signals are highly complex in both non-fatigue and fatigue conditions. Furthermore, surface electromyography signals have higher amplitude and lower frequency under fatigue condition. This model can be used to study the influence of various signal parameters under fatigue and non-fatigue conditions.

Harmonic Current Injection control algorithm for Narrowing the Switching Frequency Range in CrM Totem-Pole PFC

Power factor correction (PFC) converters are utilized extensively across various applications, and therefore, developing customized control algorithms is essential to meet the diverse operational requirements. In critical conduction mode totem-pole PFC technology, introducing harmonic currents into a command signal is a viable approach for enhancing the performance of the PFC converter. However, this approach suffers from the risk of exceeding the planned harmonic current injection because of external interference. To overcome this issue, this article introduces a novel control algorithm that incorporates a harmonic injection technique to maintain stable performance despite disturbances or load variations. This algorithm uses Fourier analysis to precisely calculate each harmonic component and employs proportional-integral compensation along with feedforward corrections method to inject harmonic currents accurately in alignment with theoretical expectations. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is validated through experiments conducted on a 350 W totem-pole PFC converter prototype under various load conditions. A comparison between the harmonic injection commands determined through a power analyzer and the actual measurements revealed that control was maintained within an error margin of 4.5%, demonstrating that harmonic control was effectively operational even under load variations.

Active feedback control using adaptive filtering

In this paper we apply a filtered-X algorithm to an active feedback control structure and derive the transfer function of a closed-loop control system. Simulation studies are then carried out on the closed-loop property while varying the parameters (input frequency, delays in plant, amplitude and phase of modeling filter). Several properties of adaptive feedback control are revealed. Experimental studies on feedback active noise control of noise in a finite duct and a small enclosure are described, and outstanding active noise control effects are achieved. Experimental results of closed-loop frequency response are also provided.

Direction-cosine-matrix-based attitude control subject to actuator saturation

Set-point attitude control of a rigid body explicitly preventing actuator saturation is considered. The attitude control approach developed does not employ any sort of direction-cosine-matrix (DCM) parameterisation, such as Euler angles or quaternions. Rather, the DCM is used directly within the feedback control algorithm. Together a proportional control term and an angular velocity control term make up the attitude controller. The angular velocity control is composed of a strictly positive real system subject to a special input non-linearity. The specific form of the proportional control and angular velocity control ensure control torques are below the saturation level of the on-board actuators. Two controller synthesis methods are considered. The first uses the linearised system, the solution to the linear quadratic regulator problem, and the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma to design the controller. The second employs a simple low-pass filter that is guaranteed to stabilise the closed-loop system;tuning the low-pass filter is also considered. Numerical simulation results demonstrate effective closed-loop control in the presence of plant disturbances and sensor noise.

Theoretical framework of feedback aerodynamic control of flutter oscillation for long-span suspension bridges by the twin-winglet system

This paper presents an active aerodynamic control method of flutter oscillation for long-span suspension bridges with a newly designed twin-winglet system. The key point of this paper is to establish the theoretical framework for active control of bridge flutter by a pair of rotatable winglets beyond the deck, of which motions are determined by the feedback control algorithm. Through utilizing aerodynamic forces generated by these winglets, this active control system can improve aerodynamic stability of long-span suspension bridges to some extent. The modeling and control of this system mainly focus on practical feasibility, in which the relative rotations rather than driving forces of both winglets are selected as the control variables in the paper. State space expression of the control system is proposed to handle problems of high order terms elimination and decoupling for control variables. Since the unobservability of aerodynamic states, model reduction technique is adopted in the design of observer and controller. The active control algorithm presented in this paper is verified by numerical simulations, and the stabilizing mechanism and energy consumption are discussed as well. It shows good effectiveness and robustness of this active aerodynamic control device in a wide range of wind speeds for flutter suppression. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a novel control method-dynamic matrix control-is developed to apply to drive system of synchronous motor. For synchronous motor, stator flux are discretized to some positioning points by controlling the stator currents accurately, which make it step motion. It breaks traditional control method of drive control and uses predictive models of step-response, rolling optimization strategy and feedback control algorithm to solve the problem of modeling and control for synchronous motor on step motion. The simulation and experiment research had been made on position control of synchronous motor with two kinds of control modes, L-infinity and L-2 performance index. It is shown by those research that DMC can get better dynamic and static characteristics on servo control system elf synchronous motor.

The atomic force microscope (AFM) is widely used in many fields such as biology, materials, and physics due to its advantages of simple sample preparation, high-resolution topography measurement and wide range of applications. However, the low scanning speed of traditional AFM limits its dynamics process monitoring and other further application. Therefore, the improvement of AFM scanning speed has become more and more important. In this review, the working principle of AFM is first proposed. Then, we introduce the improvements of cantilever, drive mechanism, and control method of the high-speed atomic force microscope (HS-AFM). Finally, we provide the next developments of HS-AFM.

We completed a 5-degree of freedom PMD compensator with a novel feedback control algorithm. The tracking algorithm, which successfully solves the problem of easily been trapped into local optima is adopted in the tracking course with no visible worsening of the feedback signal in the compensation process. Long time testing shows good performance of our compensator for fast tracking and compensation.
