Nonlinear controller design for IPC using feedback linearization method

This paper establishes a mathematical model in the d-q frame for the conventional interphase power controller (IPC) in series with a transmission line connecting two power systems. The IPC model is nonlinear. Based on this model and the theory of feedback linearization, a MIMO nonlinear controller is proposed. This controller can independently adjust active and reactive powers of the transmission line and maintain the voltage of the capacitor and the current of the inductor in the branches of IPC at the prescribed values. The simulation results, carried out by Matlab/Simulink (R) software, show the effectiveness of the proposed controller. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

To effectively reject the gyroscopic effects and moving-gimbal effects of the double gimbal magnetically suspended control moment gyroscope (DGMSCMG) and to avoid high control effort, this paper proposes a novel control method based on modal decoupling strategy. Modal controller is employed to realize the modal separation of the translation and rotation modes of the magnetically suspended rotor (MSR). Then the dynamic coupling among the two rotation modes of the MSR system and the two rotational motions of the gimbal servo systems have been decoupled by using differential geometry theory. Dynamic compensation filters have been designed to improve the decoupling performance and the system stability without large control resource. Compared with the existing channel decoupling method, the presented one can not only realize the separate control of stiffness and damping of the MSR but also simplify the control system design significantly. The simulation results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

Application of the feedback linearization in Maximum Power Point Tracking Control for Hydraulic Wind Turbine

Taking the hydraulic wind turbine as the research object, the method is studied to improve the utilization ratio of wind energy for hydraulic wind turbine, when the wind speed is lower than the rated wind speed. The hydraulic fixed displacement pump speed and generating power can be used as control output to realize the maximum power point tracking control. The characteristics of the maximum power point tracking control are analyzed for hydraulic wind turbine, and the hydraulic output power is taken as control output based on the comprehensive performance requirements. Because the hydraulic wind turbine is a strong multiplication nonlinear system, the system is globally linearized based the feedback linearization method, and the maximum power point tracking control law is obtained. The simulation and experiment results show that the system has good dynamic performance with the proposed control law. The control provides theoretical guidance for optimal power tracking control law application for hydraulic wind turbine.

LCL filter control design is challenging because of presence of a resonant pole in the LCL filter transfer function. This paper presents a guideline for LCL filter design, which are often used in grid connected applications, with compensation based on complex poles and zeros. A Software Frequency Response Analyzer (SFRA) is integrated in the control software of the power converter. This enables periodical collection of frequency response data, which can be used to monitor movement of resonant poles due to aging, drifts and degradation of components. The information obtained from embedded SFRA can then be used to adjust the compensation. A feedback linearization method is illustrated to account for the grid voltage disturbances, which cannot be compensated by traditional PI controller. A solar micro inverter board is designed to prove the proposed scheme. Discussions about the embedded design challenges in integration of multiple power stage control, for a micro inverter using a single processor, are included and solutions presented.

The controller of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) is the essential part of Distributed Generation (DG) system as an interface in solving the power quality problems. In this paper, a new controller (Based on feedback linearization) has been proposed due to achieving some prescribed behavior to mitigate the power quality problems. The new controller has been designed base on the average state space model of VSI and network which is nonlinear. The real time simulation of the proposed system shows precise tracing the load requirements and good mitigating the power quality problems rather than previous studies.

In this paper an adaptive super twisting sliding mode cascaded control strategy to control superheat temperature of an evaporator of Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Systems(HVAC) is presented. Two internal loop and external loop of the cascaded controller are designed using sliding mode by utilizing feedback linearization method. By controlling superheat temperature, T-sh, in the external loop, and evaporating temperature of refrigerant, T-e, in the internal loop, a better performance with robustness against parameter uncertainty is achieved. The value of superheat temperature is determined by using the estimated value of length of two phase flow of the refrigerant inside the evaporator. The performance of the proposed control strategy against disturbance and parameter uncertainties is illustrated through simulation in MATLAB/Simulink environment. It is shown that in comparison with super-twisting method, the proposed adaptive super twisting method improves the performance of system by reduction of undesirable chattering in the response of system.

This paper presents a new algorithm for the automatic adaptation of planar motion for an exoskeleton device. The designed control algorithm aims at adapting the motion of the hemiparetic patient "wearing" the exoskeleton to the desired gait based on the patient's active torque. The patient-exoskeleton coupling is modeled as a stand-alone planar nonlinear hybrid two-legged robot model with point feet. The control algorithm consists of a feedback linearization method extended with an optimal controller that assures the tracking of the reference trajectories and disturbance rejection. This control structure is capsuled by an adaptive iterative learning control, which in every motion cycle adapts the reference joint-angle trajectories for the exoskeleton to follow in the next cycle. Motion captured data from healthy subjects was used as reference input in the closed-loop system, because these trajectories guarantee human-like behavior for the robot model with point feet. Simulation results of the iterative learning controller show promising results with respect to cyclic disturbances, as associated with hemiparetic spasticity.

Currently, open-loop deep brain stimulation is an effective treatment for Parkinson's disease, the stimulus waveforms are static high-frequency pulse sequences. In this paper the input-output feedback linearization method is introduced in the closed-loop control of Parkinsonian state based on a computational model. Closed-loop control effects are compared with the classical open-loop control. Simulation results prove that feedback linearization method performs better than the open-loop controller for the restoration of thalamic relay function under Parkinsonian state.

In allusion to complex dynamic behaviors such as bifurcation and chaos in a discrete predator-prey model, presence of chaos is validated by computing Lyapunov exponent measure method and giving the bifurcation portrait with parameter in the system. By applying the feedback linearization method to control the chaos to unstable fixed points, chaos trajectory in the system is controlled in the anticipant trajectory and chaos phenomenon is eliminated. The correctness and feasibility of the theory is - validated by simulation.

Research on a power smoothing control strategy for energy storage hydraulic wind turbines

To solve the problem of large output power fluctuations in wind turbines and improve grid adaptability, a hydraulic energy storage system is introduced in traditional hydraulic wind turbines. Based on the working principle of energy storage hydraulic wind turbines, an energy storage hydraulic wind turbine state space model is established, and the feedback linearization method is introduced to solve the multiplication nonlinear problem in the modeling process. The output power is taken as the control output, and the torque compensation controller is established with the feedback linearization method. The displacement of the variable displacement pump motor is controlled to realize hydraulic energy storage system energy charging and discharging, and the wind turbine output power smoothing control is realized with the fluctuating wind speed. The power smoothing control strategy is verified with the 24 kW energy storage hydraulic wind turbines semi-physical simulation experimental platform. The proposed control strategy lays the groundwork for the wide application of the energy storage hydraulic wind turbines.
