Weight optimized unscented Kalman filter for degradation trend prediction of lithium-ion battery with error compensation strategy

Due to the inevitable degradation of Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) during its lifetime, remaining useful life (RUL) prediction methods are adopted for ensuring the stable and safety operation of electrical equipment. To make up the deficiencies of single model-based or data-driven prediction approach, this paper proposes a new hybrid framework using a weight optimization unscented Kalman filter (WOUKF) and attention based bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM-AM). To be specific, firstly, a Fourier model is proposed to describe the degradation of LIBs instead of the traditional double exponential model. Then, a WOUKF algorithm is designed to identify the model parameters efficiently even in the case of poor initialization. Next, the trends of prediction residual between the WOUKF and the true capacity is established by BiLSTM-AM, which is fed back to the WOUKF for updating model parameters during the prediction period. In addition, an error compensation scheme is developed to further improve prediction performance. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed prognosis framework is verified on two battery datasets. The simulation results show that the proposed method has better prediction accuracy. The maximum root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) of the proposed hybrid framework are 3.5% and 3%, respectively.(c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A pattern search filter method for nonlinear programming without derivatives

This paper formulates and analyzes a pattern search method for general constrained optimization based on filter methods for step acceptance. Roughly, a filter method accepts a step that improves either the objective function value or the value of some function that measures the constraint violation. The new algorithm does not compute or approximate any derivatives, penalty constants, or Lagrange multipliers. A key feature of the new algorithm is that it preserves the division into search and local poll steps, which allows the explicit use of inexpensive surrogates or random search heuristics in the search step. It is shown here that the algorithm identifies limit points at which optimality conditions depend on local smoothness of the functions and, to a greater extent, on the choice of a certain set of directions. Stronger optimality conditions are guaranteed for smoother functions and, in the constrained case, for a fortunate choice of the directions on which the algorithm depends. These directional conditions generalize those given previously for linear constraints, but they do not require a feasible starting point. In the absence of general constraints, the proposed algorithm and its convergence analysis generalize previous work on unconstrained, bound constrained, and linearly constrained generalized pattern search. The algorithm is illustrated on some test examples and on an industrial wing planform engineering design application.

Estimation of the heat flux for a quenched solid stainless steel sphere is demonstrated using a filter formulation. Even though the values of the thermal properties significantly change during quenching, nearly as accurate heat flux estimates as with temperature-variable analyses are possible using the proposed filter method. The filter algorithm is very efficient for the repeated analyses of similar tests. The filter solution method uses several IHCP methods including function specification and Tikhonov regularization.

This paper presents a method to enhance the stability of atomic clock ensemble time scale by using weighted moving average filter. Compared with Kalman filter, the weighted moving average filter has simpler algorithm structure, higher computational efficiency. Its convergence time is shorter than Kalman filter. When the two filters were applied to frequency data of Cs clocks, they have consistent filtering performance. The preliminary results show the weighted moving average filter can enhance the stability of local atomic clock ensemble time scale, especially the short- and middle-term stability.

In the article a 3-dimensional filter method for solving optimal control problems of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) was presented. Direct multiple shooting method, which is appropriate for the control problems of the multistage DAE systems, leads to the large-scale nonlinear programming problems. In the proposed approach the extended Fletcher's filter with three inputs was used. The filter method promotes global convergence without the need to use a penalty function. The first input of the filter denotes the value of the cost function. The second and third inputs come from two types of equality constraints - consistent initial conditions of the DAE system and continuity constraints on the state trajectories. The new algorithm was tested on the optimal control problem of a fed-batch fermentor for penicillin production. The numerical simulations were executed in MATLAB environment using Wroclaw Center for Networking and Supercomputing.

The basic theory of wavelet package analysis and the methods of noise elimination for signals employing wavelet analysis were discussed in this thesis. The method of phase image noise filtered by wavelet analysis was employed usually in phase interferogram, and the result was not satisfactory. An algorithm of interferometric phase image filter of InSAR based on wavelet package analysis filter algorithm was advanced to improve the result, and experimenting for two interferometric phase images. The residues of two interferometric phase images are 4952 and 86058 using medial filter method, but the residues of two interferometric phase images are 524 and 14225 using wavelet package analysis filter algorithm.

Comparison of the Remapping algorithms for the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS)

One of the limitations in using spaceborne, microwave radiometer data for atmospheric remote sensing is the nonuniform spatial resolution. Remapping algorithms can be applied to the data to ameliorate this limitation. In this paper, two remapping algorithms, the Backus-Gilbert inversion (BGI) technique and the filter algorithm (AFA), widely used in the operational data preprocessing of the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), are investigated. The algorithms are compared using simulations and actual ATMS data. Results show that both algorithms can effectively enhance or degrade the resolution of the data. The BGI has a higher remapping accuracy than the AFA. It outperforms the AFA by producing less bias around coastlines and hurricane centers where the signal changes sharply. It shows no obvious bias around the scan ends where the AFA has a noticeable positive bias in the resolution-enhanced image. However, the BGI achieves the resolution enhancement at the expense of increasing the noise by 0.5 K. The use of the antenna pattern instead of the point spread function in the algorithm causes the persistent bias found in the AFA-remapped image, leading not only to an inaccurate antenna temperature expression but also to the neglect of the geometric deformation of the along-scan field-of-views.

A PROGRESSIVE BARRIER FOR DERIVATIVE-FREE NONLINEAR PROGRAMMING

We propose a new constraint-handling approach for general constraints that is applicable to a widely used class of constrained derivative-free optimization methods. As in many methods that allow infeasible iterates, constraint violations are aggregated into a single constraint violation function. As in filter methods, a threshold, or barrier, is imposed on the constraint violation function, and any trial point whose constraint violation function value exceeds this threshold is discarded from consideration. In the new algorithm, unlike the filter method, the amount of constraint violation subject to the barrier is progressively decreased adaptively as the iteration evolves. We test this progressive barrier (PB) approach versus the extreme barrier (EB) with the generalized pattern search (Gps) and the lower triangular mesh adaptive direct search (LTMads) methods for nonlinear derivative-free optimization. Tests are also conducted using the Gps-filter, which uses a version of the Fletcher-Leyffer filter approach. We know that Gps cannot be shown to yield kkt points with this strategy or the filter, but we use the Clarke nonsmooth calculus to prove Clarke stationarity of the sequences of feasible and infeasible trial points for LTMads-PB. Numerical experiments are conducted on three academic test problems with up to 50 variables and on a chemical engineering problem. The new LTMads-PB method generally outperforms our LTMads-EB in the case where no feasible initial points are known, and it does as well when feasible points are known. which leads us to recommend LTMads-PB. Thus the LTMads- PB is a useful practical extension of our earlier LTMads-EB algorithm, particularly in the common case for real problems where no feasible point is known. The same conclusions hold for Gps-PB versus Gps-EB.

Proportionate NSAF algorithms with sparseness-measured for acoustic echo cancellation

In acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), the sparseness of impulse responses can vary over time or/and context. For such scenario, the proportionate normalized subband adaptive filter (PNSAF) and mu-law (MPNSAF) algorithms suffer from performance deterioration. To this end, we propose their sparseness measured versions by incorporating the estimated sparseness into the PNSAF and MPNSAF algorithms, respectively, which can adapt to the sparseness variation of impulse responses. In addition, based on the energy conservation argument, we provide a unified formula to predict the steady-state mean square performance of any PNSAF algorithm, which is also supported by simulations. Simulation results in AEC have shown that the proposed algorithms not only exhibit faster convergence rate than their competitors in sparse, quasi-sparse and dispersive environments, but also are robust to the variation in the sparseness of impulse responses. THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MICROPROCESSOR SYSTEM FOR SIMULTANEOUSLY MONITORING HEART-RATE FROM MULTIPLE SUBJECTS

Two computer systems developed in our laboratory to monitor the heart rate of freely moving rats are described below. The first system uses the Commodore CBM microcomputer and monitors a single rat. The second system uses the IBM CS9000, monitors up to four rats simultaneously, and provides real-time graphics. Both systems rely on a Schmitt-trigger circuit which digitizes the electrical signal generation by the heart during every cardiac cycle. Both systems also employ the same algorithm to handle the appreciable levels of noise generated by subject movement. The algorithm developed for filtering this noise and its effectiveness are presented. This paper illustrates a software-intensive approach to handling signal timing, and the advantages provided by 16/32-bit versus an 8-bit microcomputer.
