In this paper, we propose an optical forward-error-correction (FEC) codingscheme with convolutional code using FWM in a HNLF to realize adaptive codingscheme corresponding to the signal-to-noise ratio between nodes. The performance of the proposed scheme was analytically investigated for 2(11) -1 PRBS DPSK-modulated RZ format signals at 10Gbps. The insertion losses of the FEC coding circuit were approximately 0.5 and -0.8dB at BER = 10(-9) in the cases of two-and three-input optical XOR operations, respectively, indicating that the proposed scheme offers a net coding gain.
