Simplified algorithms for removal of the effect of exponentially decaying DC-offset on the fourier algorithm

The impact of exponentially decaying direct component on the fourier algorithm is theoretically investigated first in this paper. A new algorithm to eliminate the error caused by this decaying component in the fourier algorithm has been proposed. Furthermore, three simplified methods are proposed to alleviate the computation burden. The performance of the fourier algorithm improved with these methods along with the least error squares algorithm is evaluated using a simple network and a real power system modeled by EMTP. The evaluation results are presented and discussed.

DC filtering is commonly used together with fourier algorithm in the calculation of root-mean-square (RMS) values of fault current of power system, so as to eliminate the errors produced by the decaying DC component in the fault current. In this paper, theoretical derivation was conducted, showing that errors of sampling values could be amplified by the DC filtering itself, which could lower the accuracy. So the effect of DC filtering should be comprehensively considered when applied in such circumstance. Numerical simulations concerning different number of sampling points and different initial phase angle of the fault current were also conducted to verify the conclusion. Results indicated that within a certain range of the initial phase angle, the amplification of the sampling error is maximized by the DC filtering, weakening the improvement in accuracy brought by the elimination of DC component, or even worsen the accuracy with too few sampling points for DC filtering calculation.

On the basis of high precision requirement for input signals in the power system protection and control system,this paper,only for the influence of power system frequency deviation on extracting fundamental harmonic,studies the amplitude error of fourier algorithm,presents a method of correcting frequency deviation,and further derives the formulas of improved fourier *** simulation results verified the effectiveness of the algorithm,it not only can greatly weaken the influence of frequency deviation,but also increase the precision of the power system protection and *** a result the study in this paper has practical application value.

A power system inter-harmonic analysis method is introduced which mainly uses the classical fourier algorithm and Prony algorithm. Through MATLAB simulation, the generation of simple harmonic wave and the superposition of signals in power system are simulated, and the parameters such as frequency, amplitude and phase in the power supply and system are calculated by means of fourier algorithm accumulation. That is to say, fourier transform is used to transform the time domain signal which is hard to calculated into the frequency domain signal and easy to be analysis. The complex convolution operation can be transformed into simple product operation, and the advantages of Prony algorithm are compared. This paper aims to propose a simple way to detect the frequency of electrical signals based on zero-crossing point algorithms. First, by using fourier algorithm as a digital filter to fetch the baseband Sine and Cosine portions of signals, and then a zero crossing algorithm technology is applied to sine or cosine signal to calculate the frequency of the sine wave signal. It is intended to apply this theoretical development in personal computers to analyze the operation of the extracted signal. However, this computer must be equipped with DAQ (Data Acquisition Card) device and SCADA-based software LabVIEW to filter the acquired signals stored in memory and then determines the signal frequency by the zero-crossing point algorithms. This developed system can be simulated with a high-order harmonic generation and noise signal source, and the program can be used to estimate the frequency of baseband sinusoidal signals. Experiments show that the zero-crossing point algorithm is an effective method of measuring the frequency.

Aimed to the existing problems about traditional frequency measurement method, this paper presents a new algorithm based on fourier frequency measurements. First, according to the error of the original fourier frequency measurement, the amendatory coefficient is adjusted, an improved method based on fourier correction coefficient frequency measurement is proposed. Then, because error of the fourier algorithm is larger when the frequency offset, interpolation algorithms have been proposed based on the true frequency of the signal. In order to improve the signal what contains harmonic component frequency measurement accuracy, iterative of the frequency until the algorithm converges or reach the maximum number of iterations. Finally, the algorithm is verified, the errors of the calculation when there is harmonic component and isn't harmonic component in the signal are compared. The practice prove that precision of the algorithm is effectively improved, the amount of calculation is significantly reduced, a high precision tracking system frequency is achieved, the requirement of real-time performance of the power system is completely satisfied.

Time-Frequency Domain Conversion of UHVDC Transmission Line Corona Current Based on fourier Transform

In the power system, Ultra-High-Voltage (UHV) transmission is an effective means to improve and solve the imbalance between power supply and demand. However, with the continuous improvement of the voltage level, the adverse effects caused by the electromagnetic environment of the transmission lines are also growing. Audible noise produced by corona discharge of transmission lines has seriously interfered with the daily life of residents near the transmission lines, which can not meet the requirements of protecting residents and environmental friendliness. In this article, the background noise in the time-domain waveform of corona current is removed by wavelet analysis. The time domain waveform of corona current is transformed into the frequency domain by a fast fourier transform. Through the analysis of the spectrum of corona current, it is found that the corona current attenuates with the increase of frequency, and most of the energy is concentrated in the first 1.5 MHz frequency band. The relationship between each frequency band of corona current and audible noise is obtained by the multiple linear regression, and the regression model is proved to be well fitted by testing. The experimental analysis shows that the algorithm in this article is 8% better than the traditional finite element method, and is closest to the actual measurement value, which proves that the actual effect of the research contained in this article is more effective. These achievements are helpful for the further study of the electromagnetic environment of UHV transmission lines, which is conducive to promoting the vigorous development of the UHV DC transmission technology in China, allocating resources more reasonably and reducing environmental pollution, and meeting the strategic requirements of energy and environment in China.

A Hybrid Method for Power System Frequency Estimation

Power system frequency is a critical parameter of voltage and current measurements for many applications, such as power quality, monitoring, and protection. This paper presents a hybrid approach for frequency estimation based on Taylor series expansion and fourier algorithm. The method is derived using a dynamic signal model with varying parameters. The changing envelope of a power signal within an observation data window is approximated with a second-order Taylor series. A fourier algorithm-based method is proposed to compute the parameters of such signal model. The algorithm using the linear model approach aimed at alleviating the computational complexity is also presented. The comparison of the performance under various conditions between the two approaches is conducted. Inheriting from the use of fourier algorithm, this hybrid algorithm is immune to power system harmonics. It achieves excellent performance for signals with dynamic variations. The performance is investigated and compared with other techniques through simulations for various scenarios observed in real power systems. Experimental studies demonstrate the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

An advanced method for eliminating impacts from frequency deviations in power system signal processing

Frequency deviation is a common problem for power system signal processing. Many power system measurements are carried out in a fixed sampling rate assuming the system operates in its nominal frequency (50 or 60 Hz). However, the actual frequency may deviate from the normal value from time to time due to various reasons such as disturbances and subsequent system transients. Measurement of signals based on a fixed sampling rate may introduce errors under such situations. In order to achieve high precision signal measurement appropriate algorithms need to be employed to reduce the impact from frequency deviation in the power system data acquisition process. This paper proposes an advanced algorithm to enhance fourier transform for power system signal processing. The algorithm is able to effectively correct frequency deviation under fixed sampling rate. Accurate measurement of power system signals is essential for the secure and reliable operation of power systems. The algorithm is readily applicable to such occasions where signal processing is affected by frequency deviation. Both mathematical proof and numerical simulation are given in this paper to illustrate robustness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Distributed oscillation damping estimation to large scale power systems: A multi-area online empirical approach

Online extraction and characterization algorithms to the distributed damping factor that can accurately monitoring the transient response in large interconnected power systems has attracted much attention, principally to maximize the multi-area functions in energy control centers. In this paper we present an online estimation algorithm to the distributed damping factor of inter-area electromechanical oscillations in power systems. The method is based on a statistical analysis of multi-area matching patterns (MPs) modes from spatially coupled empirical coefficients, and derived with a network partitioning method by coherent signal blocks into data clusters from the phase domain. This provides a distributed global picture on the modal behavior, which is derived using synchronized-time multi-area signals simultaneously recording from wide-area monitoring schemes (WAMS). For purposes as our multi-area online approach, a sliding data window frame for estimating the distributed damping factor of low-frequency electromechanical oscillations based on Prony and fourier methods with multiple empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) analysis is presented. In order to demonstrate the usefulness and adaptivity to obtain an online damping factor estimation and global picture of inter-area electromechanical modes from dynamic oscillations in distributed power systems, the proposed algorithm is applied in detail to the 16 machine-68 bus New England test system.
