Problem of calculating transition band sample value (transition coefficient) of low pass frequency sampling filters is considered. The analytical expressions for calculating transition coefficient based on minimum of the sum of squared frequency response values in selected points in the stopband are obtained. In this case, the value of maximum difference between resultant frequency response and desired one in the stopband is close to minimum.

A novel frequency-tunable power divider based on frequency sampling method is designed in this paper. The frequency-tunable structure located on the input-port of the power divider, which is different from the conventional frequency-tunable method. The frequency-tunable function of the frequency-tunable structure depends on the slot-line resonator. The resonant frequency of the slot-line resonator can be tuned by changing the voltage of the parallel varactor. The frequency-tunable power divider has the features of simple structure and easy-to-realization. Only one varactor is used for the tunable frequency. The simulated results show that the operation frequency of the power divider can be tuned between 0.87GHz and 1.45GHz with the return loss and the isolation greater than 15dB. The output-port's amplitude unbalance is less than 0.05dB and the phase unbalance is less than 0.5degree.

The frequency sampling method is very simple to design FIR filters with arbitrary frequency response. The generic problem of the FIR filter design via the frequency sampling method is to solve the normal equation accurately. A more explicit form to solve the coefficient matrix of the normal equation is derived in this paper. Both the mathematical derivation and the numerical verification are given in this paper. The numerical results compare the coefficient matrix of the proposed form and that of the direct multiplication of coefficient cosine matrix and its transpose. As the number of frequency points increases, the computational error increases accordingly. The proposed formulation can avoid this phenomenon and more robust algorithms can be developed via this approach.

The problem of designing bandpass FIR filters by frequency sampling method in case of one frequency sample (transition coefficient) in each transition band is considered. The analytical expressions for calculating these samples are obtained. Samples are calculated on the basis of criterion of minimum of the sum of squared frequency response values in selected points in the stopband. In the general case values of transition coefficients are calculated to be unequal. It is demonstrated that in this case the higher attenuation level in the stopband is achieved in the comparison with the case of transition coefficient values equality. The results of digital modeling shows that obtained expressions allow achieving attenuation, which is close to maximum.

Digital all-pass filters design problem can be simplified by solving a set of linear equations associated with a Toeplitz-plus-Hankel matrix in the least-squares sense. Consequently, the Cholesky decomposition or split Levinson technique can be appropriately used to obtain the optimal solution. In this study, the determination of the set of linear equations to calculate the all-pass-based quadrature mirror filter banks is achieved by exploiting some trigonometric identities and the frequency sampling method. The proposed simplification allows for expressing a sum of sinusoids by a single expression. The simulation results indicate that the presented new and simpler closed-form expressions of the Toeplitz-plus-Hankel associated matrices can achieve accurate performance with a considerable reduction in computational complexity.

Research on the fiber dispersion and compensation in large-scale high-resolution broadband frequency-modulated continuous wave laser measurement system

The influence of a fiber dispersion calibration interferometer on the measurement results for a large-scale high-resolution broadband frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) measurement system was studied. A model was constructed to simulate the influences of fiber dispersion on the measurements when using a frequency sampling method that corrects the tuning nonlinearity. The results indicated that a broadband external cavity tunable laser, in comparison with a semiconductor laser, causes linear variations in the measurement results because of the effect of the fiber dispersion in the calibration interference path for large-scale high-resolution measurements, and these variations decreased the resolution of the measurements. A method that combines chirp slope calibration and phase compensation to reduce the effects of the fiber dispersion was proposed. A gauge block with a height difference of 200 mu m at a distance of 2.43 m was measured during the experiments. Before calibrating the fiber dispersion, the frequency spectrum showed false peaks, and it was difficult to distinguish the peaks of the targets. After compensating for the dispersion, the peaks of the targets could be clearly distinguished, and a height difference of 199.6 mu m was measured. Using this model and the method to compensate for the dispersion will provide a reference for large-scale high-resolution broadband FMCW laser measurements. frequency sampling method is one of the usual methods in FIR digital filter design. In frequency sampling method the value of transition band samples are usually obtained by searching for table. However, the value obtained by searching for table can not be ensured to be optimal. In this paper a new application of Differential Evolution (DE) to frequency sampling method is introduced and its performance is compared to that of Genetic Algorithm(GA). Experimental results have shown that the value of transition band samples obtained by DE can be ensured to be optimal, also, it is seen that DE is significantly faster than GA for finding the optimum filter.

The design target of Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter is to approximate the ideal filters on the request of a given designing filter specifications. Genetic algorithm is one of global optimal search algorithm of mimic biological evolution, but it has the precocious and slow convergence problems if it is directly applicated. Based on these problems, the adaptive selection algorithm was used to improve the choice of the crossover operator and its mutation operator for genetic algorithm. And then, the improved genetic algorithm was used to design and optimize the Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter. Based on design features of FIR filter frequency sampling method, we used the improved genetic algorithm, Look-up table and references methods for compare their results. The results of the proposed method by MATLAB simulation showd that the proposed method can obtain better results in the same design specifications.

Finite Impulse Response (FIR) digital filters are widely used in digital signal processing and other engineering because of their strict stability and linear phase. Aiming at the problems of low accuracy and weak optimization ability of traditional method to design digital filter, the newly proposed Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is used in this paper to design a linear-phase FIR filter to obtain the optimal transition-band sample value in the frequency sampling method to obtain the minimum stop-band attenuation, so as to improve the performance of the filter. And improved by embedding Levy Flight (LF), which is the modified Levy-embedded GWO (LGWO). Finally, the performance of traditional frequency sampling methods and optimization algorithms GWO and LGWO are compared. When the number of sampling points is 65 and 97, the stopband attenuation of LGWO is improved by 0.2029 dB and 0.2454 dB respectively compared with GWO algorithm. The better performance of LGWO is shown in the results.

A Design Approach to Linear-Phase FIR Filters with Odd-Symmetric Transition Bands Using Piecewise Exponential Functions

This paper proposes a novel method for designing linear-phase finite-impulse response digital filters with an asymmetric transition band. The proposed filters use a form of piecewise exponential functions in the frequency domain where transition characteristics are determined by giving only two fixed feature points. The design method was evaluated in two ways. First, we evaluated a designed asymmetric transition band filter, and the results revealed that evaluated errors in the proposed filters were equivalent to well-known existing filters. Then, it was shown that a three-channel filter bank with an asymmetric transition band and linear-phase property could be implemented.
