Special Classes of fuzzy integer programming Models with All-Different Constraints

In this paper, a fuzzy approach is applied to special classes of integer programming problems with all different constraints. In the first model, a fuzzy integer programming model is developed to represent the all-different constraints in mathematical programming. In order to solve the proposed model, a new branching scheme for the Branch and Bound algorithm is also presented. In the second model, a special class of large-scale multi-objective fuzzy integer programming problems with all-different constraints is introduced. A solution method for the proposed model is also developed by using the decomposition technique, weighting method and Branch and Bound algorithm. An. illustrative numerical example is also given to clarify the theory and the method discussed in this paper.

The wavelength-division multiplexing network design problem is considered in this paper. The literature is replete with prescriptive integer programming models for various versions of wavelength-division multiplexing network design problems, but in no case they consider the real situation of solving them taking into account their inherent vagueness. In this paper, this vagueness is assumed and handled by means of fuzzy sets based methodologies. In particular, two fuzzy integer linear programming models are proposed to be used as auxiliary models for solving the former problem. As an original way to effectively solve these models obtaining cost-effective network designs, we use three metaheuristic procedures that are compared among them.

The overwhelming majority of the literature in the area of supply chain planning and scheduling considers the traditional make-to-stock (MTS) environment. However, manufacturers of assembled products such as cars, computers, furniture, etc. adopt the build-to-order supply chain (BOSC) to become agile in a mass customization process in order to meet diversified customer requirements. In this paper we propose an integrated production-distribution planning model for a multi-echelon, multi-plant and multi-product supply chain operating in a build-to-order (BTO) environment. The uncertainties associated with estimation of the various operational cost parameters are represented by fuzzy numbers. The BOSC scheduling model is thus constructed as a mixed-integer fuzzy programming (MIFP) problem with the goal of reducing the overall operating costs related to component fabrication, procurement, assembling, inspection, logistics and inventory, while improving customer satisfaction by allowing product customization and meeting delivery promise dates at each market outlet. An efficient compromise solution approach by transforming the problem into an auxiliary multi-objective linear programming model is also suggested.

Procurement scheduling for complex projects with fuzzy activity durations and lead times

Material procurement is a vital activity for manufacturing complex products like ships and aircrafts with long manufacturing cycle times. The project activities are interlinked through numerous precedence and succession rules. Given these interdependencies, it is difficult to ascertain the durations of the activities precisely at planning stage and creates uncertainty in the requirement dates of the items. The lead times of items are also not known accurately and result in uncertainty in the availability dates. Consequently, inventory holding and shortage costs incurred cannot be crisply defined. The objective of this paper is to develop a procurement scheduling model considering the above uncertainties. We have developed a method to calculate fuzzy holding and shortage costs and used those as fuzzy cost coefficients in the procurement scheduling model. It minimizes the sum of the above costs under budget constraints and generates optimal ordering schedule. It is applied for procurement scheduling of a real ship building project. Two types of sensitivity analyses were performed: first to understand the effect of variation of degree of uncertainty on total cost and on stage budget requirements and second to study the effect of changes in allocated stage budget parameters on total cost. The results indicate that total cost can be reduced significantly if stage wise budgets are determined considering the uncertainties rather than allocating budget upfront and treating them as constraints. The sensitivity analyses performed, helps in identifying the most sensitive stage of the project and determine the ranges in which stage-wise budgets can be varied. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. This work considers the resolution of the system of fuzzy integer inequalities. It is Shown that a system of fuzzy integer inequalities with concave membership functions can be reduced to a regular convex integer programming problem. A modified solution algorithm of the p -th power Lagrangian method is introduced to deal with the resulting convex integer programming problem as a sequence of linearly constrained convex integer programming problems. Some computational results are included.

A fuzzy branch and bound-based transmission system expansion planning for the highest satisfaction level of the decision maker

This paper proposes a new method for choosing the best transmission system expansion plan for the highest satisfaction level of the decision maker. The proposed method considers the permissibility and ambiguity of the investment budget (economics) for constructing new transmission lines and the delivery marginal rate (reliability criterion) of the system. This is achieved by modeling the transmission expansion problem as a fuzzy integer programming one. The method solves for the optimal strategy (a reasonable and flexible plan that would not be significantly worsened by any assumed changes in the surrounding situations) using a fuzzy set theory-based branch and bound method that utilizes a network flow approach and the maximum flow-minimum cut set theorem. When only a very limited size database is available to evaluate probabilistic reliability indices, the proposed technique provides the decision maker with a valuable and practical tool to solve the transmission expansion problem, considering problem uncertainties. Test results on an existing 21-bus system show that the proposed method is suitable for solving the transmission expansion planning problem subject to practical ambiguities.

This work considers the resolution of the system of fuzzy Diophantine equations. The concept of level sets is adopted to convert this problem into a crisp(traditional) nonlinear integer program. It is shown that the system of fuzzy Diophantine equations with concave membership functions can be reduced to a regular convex integer programming problem. The p-th power Lagrangian method is introduced to deal with the resulting convex integer programming problem as a sequence of linearly constrained convex integer programming problems. Some computational results are included.

This study proposes a new method for the transmission system expansion planning using the fuzzy integer programming. It presents stepwise cost characteristics analysis which is a practical condition of an actual systems. A branch and bound method which includes the network flow method and the maximum flow - minimum cut set theorem has been used in order to proceed the stepwise cost characteristics analysis. Uncertainties of the permission of the construction cost and not strict reserve rate and load forecasting of expansion planning can be included for the long-term transmission expansion planning and also processed using fuzzy set theory in this study. The reasonable solution can be obtained using fuzzy branch and bound method which includes the network flow method and maximum flow-minimum cut set theorem. Case studies on Youngnam area of KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) system show that the algorithm proposed is efficiently applicable to the horizontal expansion planning of transmission systems in future.

A Weighted Multi-Objective Mathematical Model for Cell Scheduling and Environmentally Sustainable Supply Chain Network

This paper presents a weighted multi-objective mixed-integer-non-linear programming model to integrate manufacturing scheduling and environmentally sustainable supply chain network (SCN). The SCN consists of two echelons including a manufacturing plant and customers. The manufacturing system adopted in the plant is cellular manufacturing. Production sequence of each product is determined based on the manufacturing capacity and customer due date. Consequently, the manufactured products are shipped by the appropriate transportation mode that minimizes transportation cost and meets the customer due date. The first objective of the model is to maximize the total net profit in the network, the second objective is to minimize the environmental impact (EI) of using an alternative transportation mode, and the third objective is to minimize the probability of tardiness for shipping the products. In order to obtain the optimal satisfaction level in the network, experiment is conducted. The outcome of this research will help decision makers to find the most desirable trade-off between total net profit, environmental impact and the probability of tardiness.
