This research presents a novel approach based on the fuzzy multi-objective linear programming model. We examined component design for game or animation characters to determine the best fit and the least number of components and software tools used. When people create a game or an animated character, they can apply the proposed approach to incorporate new components into a new character quickly. The proposed approach enables designing components of game or animation characters efficiently;and reduces design and development costs.

Weapon systems selection is one of the most crucial steps of a successful weapon systems acquisition process. The weapon systems selection problem is a complex decision-making problem involving multiple objectives and multiple interactive factors. This study presents a novel integrated approach to the weapon systems portfolio selection problem. The proposed integrated approach combines fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), fuzzy analytic network process (ANP), and fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP). The integrated fuzzy DEMATEL-fuzzy ANP method is firstly applied to identify the weights of the criteria, and FMOLP is then used to determine the optimal weapon systems portfolio. Capabilities-based assessment (CBA) results and the traditional weapon system selection criteria are considered in the proposed approach, which yields a comprehensive set of criteria ranging from technological aspects to the factors identified through CBA. Furthermore, functional constraints are taken into account in the FMOLP phase of the procedure. Finally, the proposed approach is applied to a real-size problem to show its applicability and practicality.

Supplier selection is an essential task within the purchasing function of supply chain management because it provides companies with opportunities to reduce various costs and realize stable and reliable ***, many companies find it difficult to determine which suppliers should be targeted as they have varied strengths and weaknesses in performance which require careful screening by the ***,information required to assess every supplier is not known precisely and typically fuzzy in *** this paper,therefore,we present fuzzy multi-objective linear programming(FMOLP) with three important goals:cost minimization,service level maximization and purchasing risk minimization with some practical constraint such as suppliers' capacity,buyer's financial budget,*** solve the problem,we introduce an enhanced two-phase approach of fuzzy linear programming for the supplier *** the first phase,the minimum achievement level desired by decision maker is set to the solution from max-min operator *** the second phase,problem formulation is reconstructed to improve the minimum achievement level resulted from the first phase. For this purpose,additional term is introduced into the objective function to adjust the achievement level and the issue of infeasibility of ***,by varying the weighting factor,we provide a set of alternative solution which enables decision maker(DM) to select the best compromise solution based on his/her preferences. Numerical experiment is provided to demonstrate our *** programming in Supplier Selection Problem.

Interactive multi-objective transportation planning decisions using fuzzy linear programming

In most real-world situations for transportation planning decision (TPD) problems, environmental coefficients and parameters are imprecise/fuzzy in nature, and the decision maker (DM) generally faces a multi-objective TPD problem in a fuzzy environment. This work develops an interactive fuzzy linear programming (FLP) method for solving TPD problems with fuzzy goals, available supply and forecast demand. The proposed method attempts simultaneously to minimize the total production and transportation costs and the total delivery time with reference to available supply, machine capacities and budget constraints at each source, as well as forecast demand and warehouse space constraints at each destination. In addition, the proposed method provides a systematic framework that facilitates the DM interactively to modify the imprecise data and related parameters until a satisfactory solution is derived. An industrial case is used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed method to real-world TPD problems. Especially, several significant characteristics of the proposed FLP method are presented in contrast to those of the main TPD methods.

A two-phase linear programming methodology for fuzzy multi-objective mixed-model assembly line problem

We develop a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) model for solving multi-objective mixed-model assembly line problem. In practice, vagueness and imprecision of the goals in this problem make the fuzzy decision-making complicated. The proposed model considers minimizing total utility work, total production rate variation, and total setup cost, using a two-phase linear programming approach. In the first phase, the problem is solved using a max-min approach. The max-min solution not being efficient, in general, we propose a new model in the second phase to maximize a composite satisfaction degree at least as good as the degrees obtained by phase one. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a numerical example is solved and the results are compared with the ones obtained by the fuzzy mixed integer goal programming and weighted additive methods. The computational results show that the proposed FMOLP model achieves lower objective functions as well as higher satisfaction degrees.

This paper proposes a new method to evaluate decision-making units (DMUs) under uncertainty using fuzzy data envelopment analysis (DEA). In the proposed multi-objective nonlinear programming methodology, both the objective functions and the constraints are considered fuzzy. This model is comprehensive in dealing with uncertainty, in the sense that coefficients of the decision variables in the objective functions and in the constraints, as well as the DMUs under assessment, are assumed to be fuzzy numbers with triangular membership functions. A comparison between the current fuzzy DEA models and the proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example.

multi-criteria decision making method is used in such cases having multiple targets. multi-objective linear programming problems, which deal with uncertain measurements for both objectives and constraints, are solved by fuzzy multi-objective linear programming methods. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP), one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods based on weighting of objectives, is designed to solve complex problems. In this study, multiple criteria decision making problems and decision makers' opinions on these problems as well as their solution processes are discussed. Firstly, a fuzzy multi objective linear programming problem is solved using the approaches of Zimmerman and Hybrid. In the literature, these methods are applied using triangular fuzzy numbers based on decision makers' opinions only in cases where the objective function is minimization. In this study, as an alternative to the triangular fuzzy numbers, trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are defined, and both minimization and maximization of objective functions are examined. Finally, a solution algorithm for a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming problem is proposed under some given conditions. The algorithm is applied to a sample problem that involves modeling of a congress organizing which aims to place attendees to accommodations under specific objectives and constraints. In the evaluation phase of the algorithm, targets are weighted by using triangular and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. At the end, the results of the proposed algorithm are compared with the results of other methods in the literature.

In practical project management (PM) decision problems, environmental coefficients and related parameters are frequently fuzzy in nature, and a decision maker (DM) must simultaneously consider various conflicting objectives in a framework of imprecise aspiration levels. This work focuses on developing a two-phase fuzzy mathematical programming (TPFGP) approach for solving the multi-objective PM decision problems in a fuzzy environment. The original fuzzy multi-objective programming model designed here attempts to simultaneously minimize total project costs, total completion time and total crashing costs with reference to direct costs, indirect costs, contractual penalty costs, duration of activities and the constraint of available budget. An industrial case is used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed approach to real-world PM decisions. Consequently, the proposed approach yields an efficient solution and overall degree of decision maker (DM) satisfaction with the determined goal values. Several significant management implications relating to the practical application of the proposed approach are also presented. Overall, the main contribution of this work lies in presenting a two-phase fuzzy programming methodology for solving real-world PM decision problems with multiple objectives. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Nutrition related diseases such as Cardiovascular Diseases, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancers are widely prevalent, and increasing in both developed and developing countries. This escalates the need to consistently follow a nutritionally balanced diet. Formulation of nutritionally balanced Meals is a complex task, which requires considerable effort, time, and intellectual capability for evaluation of Menu items and analysis of a range of nutrient values. As a step towards automating this task, this interdisciplinary study presents a fuzzy optimization model applying fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) to compose a daily diet consisting of nutritionally balanced Meals which limit nutrients such as cholesterol, sugar, saturated fat, and sodium. An effective algorithm is developed to create a pareto optimal solution set of optimized daily diet choices. The model is tested using one hundred Menu items, for demonstrating the applicability of the model in composing a nutritionally balanced diet.
