With the development of ultra-high definition television (UHDTV), an effective gamut mapping algorithm (GMA) from high-definition television (HDTV) to UHDTV is vital. In this paper, we propose a hue-preserved GMA in the CIELCH color space. To balance the restriction between the color difference and the utilization rate of gamut, a mapping method based on barycenter transformation is used. With this algorithm, the color signals for HDTV can be applicable to UHDTV and the image quality can be improved significantly.

This paper discusses the problems and solutions related to the reproduction of color images on displays. We focus on the problems of false contouring and gamut mismatches. A novel system consisting of a post-dithering algorithm and a hybrid gamut mapping algorithm is proposed to deal with the respective problems. The experimental results show that the proposed system mitigates the false contouring and increases the contrast in images.

For point-wise gamutmapping, the largest challenge is how to preserve both detail and saturation with state of the art gamut mapping algorithms based on the main concepts of gamut clipping or gamut compression. Based on a combination of clipping and compression algorithms, a hybrid point-wise gamutmapping framework is proposed and evaluated in this paper. Using five standard scenes, five combination ratios, our framework based on cusp point is evaluated. According to the subjective experiment results, the trend of accuracy scale and preference scale were indicated first decreasing stage and second increasing stage, and its turning point is mainly 50% ratio scale. Three objective image quality metrics were further used to correlate and analyze the above special phenomenon clearly.

The aim of this research is to derive illuminant-independent type of HDR imaging modules which can optimally multispectrally reconstruct of every color concerned in high-dynamic-range of original images for preferable cross-media color reproduction applications. Each module, based on either of broadband and multispectral approach, would be incorporated models of perceptual HDR tone-mapping, device characterization. In this study, an xvYCC format of HDR digital camera was used to capture HDR scene images for test. A tone-mapping module was derived based on a multiscale representation of the human visual system and used equations similar to a photoreceptor adaptation equation, proposed by Michaelis-Menten. Additionally, an adaptive bilateral type of gamut mapping algorithm, using approach of a multiple conversing-points (previously derived), was incorporated with or without adaptive Un-sharp Masking (USM) to carry out the optimization of HDR image rendering. An LCD with standard color space of Adobe RGB (D65) was used as a soft-proofing platform to display/represent HDR original RGB images, and also evaluate both rendition-quality and prediction-performance of modules derived. gamutmapping is a key technology which realizes good matching between original, displayed, and printed colors. We examined the application of gamut mapping algorithms to device profiles to achieve color transformation in color management systems (CMSs). As a new performance evaluation method, we focused on errors that occur during this transformation. To obtain a mapping method suitable for implementation, we developed a new gamut mapping algorithm called "Chroma Proportional Clipping (CPC)." This algorithm preserves chroma and tone while reducing interpolation errors. The reproduction of chroma and tone was evaluated subjectively, and the reduction of errors was evaluated based on color differences. Compared with three conventional algorithms, CPC was given the best mean score in subjective evaluations of color matching. Also, CPC has a relatively small reduction of errors of 14.2 CIELAB units.
