To satisfy the requirements of the motorcycle rider training and motorcycle dynamic research, a kind of motorcycle driving simulator based on BikeSim is presented in this paper. In order to simulate the vehicle dynamic of the motorcycle, a motorcycle dynamic model is constructed. The rider's body gesture is tracked by a camera for simulating the influence of the rider's body posture on the motorcycle. For the purpose of enhancing the sense of reality, a 7 degree-of-freedom motion platform is used. In order to simulate the traffic environment of the city, the virtual scene is built using the OpenSceneGraph and the urban traffic flow is generated. Practice shows that this simulator can simulate the motorcycle dynamics realistically and achieve the purpose of teaching and training.

Verification and validation of control system brings more confidence on software functions under test. Testing of control functions of highly dynamic power electronics drives invariably requires closed loop system. The most energy efficient and reliable methodology proven in the past decade is real time testing using the hardware in loop simulation. It is expected to provide accurate feedback signals for control functions under test for given set of inputs and plant model. The paper provides validation of control function of single inverter medium voltage drive with field data in hardware in loop test system. Detailed plant model has been developed taking care of frequency response that a control function requires during magnetizing, ramping up and steady state operation. Plant model is benchmarked with that of the field including the response in dynamic conditions. The results show the accuracy of the plant model compared with the actual physical system for critical control software functions throughout the operating range thus proving the reliability of the medium voltage drive control software.

Recent advances in real time simulators (RTS) made it possible to create test facility using hardware in loop (HIL) for verification of complex control functions of power electronics systems in safe and reliable environment. Models of multilevel converter topologies will have very complex discrete calculations which will make it cumbersome to get convergence of all state variables within a small and stipulated time step during real time execution. In order to achieve a numerically stable solution, it is better to split model into different subsystems to obtain lesser order state space matrices. This paper presents a novel method for decoupling of transformer and three cascaded 3 level neutral point clamped (3L-NPC) rectifier modules. This decoupling enabled the entire rectifier model to run in RTS within stipulated time step of 25us. The new method has allowed to test in active rectifier mode as well as diode bridge operation which are validated using a practical controller of ABB medium voltage drives. The performance of rectifier during high dynamic grid voltage, and load variations is also verified.

A Waveform Relaxation (WR) based iterative real-time playback scheme for controller testing was recently proposed in the literature along with proof-of-concept simulations. This scheme can be a low-cost alternative to hardware-in-loop simulation, as it does not require a real-time simulator. To demonstrate practical feasibility of the WR scheme, this paper presents results of experiments with real-time implementation of controllers, iteratively interacting with simulated models of power apparatus via storage and real-time play-back. Two systems are considered: a HVDC controller tested with a detailed model of the converters, and a TCSC based damping controller tested with a low frequency model of a power system. The results are validated with those obtained using simulated models of the controllers. We also present results of an experiment in which the tested HVDC controller is used to control the scaled real-life HVDC apparatus, for which a simulated model was used during controller testing. Convergence and a good match between simulated and real-time implementation are obtained for the HVDC system. The experiments on the TCSC damping controller drawn our attention to a potential convergence problem which may arise due to iteration-dependent round-off noise.

Dynamic spectrum management (DSM) of cognitive radio networks (CRNs) has been a hotspot for spectrum management departments as well as research community to alleviate spectrum scarcity problem. With the motive of facilitating CRNs with spectrum-related information with low cost in different scenarios including infrastructure less environment, this paper proposes a spectrum map based DSM (SMDSM) framework. Spectrum map is defined to provide external support for CRs with information including spectrum policy, spectrum availability, radio propagation characteristics, etc. The distribution scheme of spectrum map is designed for CRNs with and without infrastructure. Through the construction and distribution of spectrum map, SMDSM implements efficient spectrum management and provides spectrum information service for CRNs. The hardware in loop simulation system based on USRP and GNU radio is developed. simulation results demonstrate that the DSM framework can make better use of spectrum and improve the system performance on throughput and delay.

According to the nonlinear and parameter time-varying characteristics of vehicle lateral stability control, a novel algorithm of vehicle lateral stability control based on single neuron network was proposed. Based on self-learning and adaptive ability of single neural network, the parameters of vehicle lateral stability controller were self-tuning on-line and the problem of large computation time brought by traditional PID control was avoided, in which the parameters of reference model of the controlled system must be identified with large calculation burden. The hardware in loop simulation platform is established based on the LabVIEW system, and the vehicle lateral stability control system is tested on the platform. The results of the simulation show this algorithm can effectively make vehicle keep and track the desired direction, and has good robustness and adaptability for vehicle lateral stability control system.

A bond graph framework giving a unified treatment of both physical-model based control and hybrid experimental-numerical simulation (also known as real-time dynamic substructuring) is presented. The framework consists of two subsystems, one physical and one numerical, connected by a transfer system representing non-ideal actuators and sensors. Within this context, a two-stage design procedure is proposed: firstly, design and/or analysis of the numerical and physical subsystem interconnection as if the transfer system were not present;and secondly removal of as much as possible of the transfer system dynamics while having regard for the stability margins established in the first stage. The approach allows the use of engineering insight backed up by well-established control theory;a number of possibilities for each stage are given. The approach is illustrated using two laboratory systems: an experimental mass-spring-damper substructured system and swing up and hold control of ail inverted pendulum. Real-time simulation is an important issue in the design of power electronic systems, especially in the context of hardware-in-loop (Hit) simulation. This paper is concerned with the development of a real-time simulation environment that is low-cost and can be easily set up in an educational laboratory. Any real-time simulation environment needs three essential components: a mechanism to accept a description of the system to be simulated, a digital hardware platform to carry out the simulation, and real-time software to manage the simulation. This paper addresses these three issues from the viewpoint of an educational laboratory setup. Real-time simulation has typically been carried out on complex and specialized multiprocessor systems, running dedicated real-time software. However, the current availability of low-cost, high-speed multi-core digital processor systems has made it possible to use standard computing hardware for this purpose. This has been aided further by the availability of real-time operating systems with multi-core execution capability. This paper discusses the issues involved in setting up a real-time simulator based on multi-core processors, and presents the details of an educational laboratory setup. As an example, the paper shows the simulation of an induction motor drive system. Experimental plots are presented. A timing analysis of the simulation is also presented, along with timing accuracy measurements.
