In order to verify the intelligent transportation system more directly, efficiently and comprehensively, this paper aims at the simulation and verification of the intelligent transportation system, and designs an intelligent transportation simulation and verification platform based on the hardware of intelligent minivan, simulation sand table, cloud monitoring platform, and millimeter class high-precision indoor positioning technology, multi-sensor fusion technology, and hardware in the loop simulation technology. At the same time, the multi vehicle formation control algorithm of the leader follower is applied to build the multi vehicle formation model, and the test verification is carried out on the simulation platform. The verification shows that the hardware in the loop simulation platform can effectively verify and quickly verify relevant algorithms. Compared with the traditional software simulation, the intelligent transportation verification platform based on hardware in the loop simulation technology has outstanding performance in model building, result analysis and effect display, and the simulation results are more accurate.

Adaptive Traffic Signal Control (ATSC) can potentially mitigate traffic congestion. Research and development in the area of ATSC have produced a number of new systems with promising potential;however the performance of these systems under real-life conditions has been always a concern for practitioners as well as researchers. Therefore, testing and refining new ATSC systems on actual hardware and under representative traffic conditions prior to field implementation is essential. In this paper, a hardware in-the-loop simulation (HILS) framework is developed to evaluate MARLIN, as an example of a new self-learning ATSC system. HILS is used for evaluating hardware components running the ATSC software in a simulation environment in which an actual traffic signal controller and an embedded computer are physically connected to a microscopic traffic simulator. Our focus is on the development, implementation of the HILS framework and the evaluation of MARLIN, on an intersection that suffers significant traffic fluctuation and delays - at the City of Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The performance of MARLIN is demonstrated with HILS, which consists of a PEEK ATC-1000 traffic controller, an embedded computer running the ATSC system, and Paramics microscopic simulation model. HILS results indicated that MARLIN-ATSC has the potential to reduce the intersection average delay by up to 20% on average compared to the optimized and coordinated actuated signal timing plans.

The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) problem of fuel quantity indication system (FQIS) seriously affects aircraft' tasks, such as flight control, air combat, navigation and command, etc. Due to the shortage of FQIS's EMC predication and verification methods, a novel EMC predication method based on hardware in the loop simulation (HILS) is presented and used for aircraft FQIS. It's ensured that electromagnetic environment (EME) and work condition of FQIS are imitated distinctly. Combined with the proposed platform, experimental verification shows that the proposed method can predicate EMC problem of FQIS quantitatively and early, and verify EMC rectification quickly and accurately. Meanwhile, the predication method has a certain value for promotion.

hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation is an important way to research and test demand side resource control strategies. Aiming at the current problems for demand side resource HIL simulation of difficulty in the controller application and relying on foreign technical products, a low code control and HIL simulation method for demand side resource based on hybrid cybernetics is proposed. First, based on the power hybrid cybernetics and the expanded activity on edge network, an event driven and adaptive general modeling of power system control strategies is carried out. Then, based on automatic differentiation technology, a configuration module is implemented for algorithms such as solving equations and optimizing models. The control model construction is decoupled from the solving algorithm, and a low code configuration method for demand side resource control strategies is established. Furthermore, based on the Java programming language, control communication programs and interfaces for simulation models are developed to achieve data exchange between Simulink simulation models and actual controllers, and a low code demand side resource HIL simulation experimental platform is built without the need for dedicated simulation machine hardware. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through HIL simulation examples of the photovoltaic maximum power point tracking control.

This paper is a contribution to the development of real time simulators for energy conversion research with respects to the ＂hardware in the loop simulation＂ concept. The focus is on the study of marine current kinetics energy conversion from into electrical energy using a marine current turbine simulator, developed in three stages. In the first stage the marine current turbine is emulated with the help of an induction drive who reproduces at its shaft the characteristics of a real turbine. It is connected with a load break used to force the emulator to respect on its shaft the characteristics of the real turbine. In the second stage, the induction drive is connected on the shaft with a doubly feed induction generator, for the study of energy conversion. The emulator respects the working regime, developed in the previous step, of a real turbine due to the control of the drive. In the third stage the induction machine emulating the turbine is interconnected with the generator and the load break. This assembly is used for the dynamic study of the marine current turbine. The break is used to create extra loads on the shaft and a variable inertial moment.

A hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) method for a wind farm controller using a real time digital simulator (RTDS) is presented, and performance of the wind farm controller is analyzed. A 100 MW wind farm which includes 5 MW wind power generation systems (WPGS) is modeled and analyzed in RSCAD/RTDS. The wind farm controller is implemented by using a computer, which is connected to the RTDS through transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP). The HILS results show the active power and power factor of the wind farm, which are controlled by the wind farm controller. The proposed HILS method in this paper can be effectively utilized to validate and test a wind farm controller under the environment in practice without a real wind farm.

This paper proposes an algorithm development and test procedure for power electronics and power system research using simulation, hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation, and electrical experiments. A flexible and reconfigurable experimental setup is introduced in this paper first and the related problems of power electronics and power system research are identified. The importance of the simulation, especially the real time HIL simulation is emphasized, and a complete design procedure is proposed and analyzed in detail. Using the proposed procedure, the research and test cycle can be greatly reduced. The algorithm development can also be standardized according to design requirements. A converter control case study demonstrates the entire design procedure and verifies the effectiveness of the proposed design procedure.

A high rate of injury is currently observed for spaceflight crewmembers when performing extravehicular activity or when training for extravehicular activity. Although it is known that this is due to adverse human interactions with the spacesuit, designing a spacesuit to reduce the incidence of injury proves difficult due to the inability to observe the motion of the crewmember inside the suit. As part of an effort to develop a wearable in-suit inertial sensor system for studying human motion inside spacesuits, the current work presents an approach to simulating the performance of wearable IMU systems. The simulation enables rapid evaluation of different hardware architectures for the wearable sensor system so that the large trade space in which the architectures reside can be explored before any hardware is fabricated, which reduces development cost and timeline. The simulation uses optical motion capture data of human motions as a source of ground truth and corrupts this with measurement errors including sensor noise captured from bench-top tests of IMUs under consideration for inclusion in the wearable system. Sample results verifying the accuracy of the simulation are presented, and directions for future work are discussed.
