3D virtual simulation has been widely used in the design of manufacturing plants. This paper focuses on the application of 3D virtual simulation in process industry. It discusses the impacts of the characteristics of the process manufacturing and the simulation users requirements on the integration of 3D visual simulation and process simulation. An actual case of grinding circuit simulation is introduced. The hardware in the loop simulation structure and the real-time data integration techniques are discussed in detail. Finally, a solution of real-time integration is provided.

Underwater glider is a kind of buoyancy driven underwater vehicle;it has the features of low operating noise, long endurance and flexible maneuverability. During the glider long-time navigation, there is a high probability to encounter the pycnocline, which has a great influence on underwater glider's navigation as well as application. In this work, an operation flow of glider hovering movement in the pycnocline was discussed in detail in order to improve the observation performance of glider. We firstly developed an LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) neural network to identify the pycnocline boundaries. Then the accurate buoyancy adjustment of glider hovering movement was calculated based on the obtained pycnocline information. Finally a hard ware in the loop simulation was implemented to verify the feasibility of the method, and the simulation results showed a reasonable performance of glider hovering in the pycnocline.

Energy management in hybrid and electric vehicles is a key factor to improve the operational performance and meet the efficiency objectives defined in the transport sector. Thus, optimized energy management strategies (EMS), before being integrated in a real system, need to be validated in a scaled test-bench platform in order to identify the possible deviations from the expected simulation-based profiles, thus, saving time during the implementation in the real application. An economical and flexible way of validating these strategies is the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation. In this framework, this work aims to compare the experimental results of two optimized (simulation-based) EMSs applied on a hybrid electric urban bus (HEB) in terms of real-time operational performance. Both EMSs handle the proper power split behavior of the vehicle demand between a genset (internal combustion engine connected to an electric generator) and a hybrid energy storage system (combining Li-ion batteries with supercapacitors). The hardware in the test-bench consist of a scaled electrical DC grid of an HEB. This hardware platform is combined with software models allowing to emulate the real behavior of the genset, battery, supercapacitor, traction and auxiliary loads.

This paper describes the design of an underwater robotic vehicle which is based on the principle of screw-type motion. The robot is targeted for inspecting inservice water mains using its onboard sensors. The proposed robot can freely move along the basic configuration of pipelines such as horizontal or vertical. Moreover it can travel along reducers, and elbows. Various robotic pipeline inspection vehicles and different material specified Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques have been reviewed in this paper. While other in-pipe inspection robots only work in pipes with constant diameter the proposed robot can negotiate pipes whose diameter varies widely during the robot's course of motion. The main features of the proposed system are illustrated and some details about the mechanical structure and its dynamics are provided A hardware-in-loop (HIL) testbed with virtual reality capabilities is under investigation in order to prepare the final integration of the in-pipe robotic inspection system.

Virtual synchronous generator technology is a new generation of renewable energy generation control technology in recent years. By making up the droop characteristics and rotation inertia of the synchronous generator in the traditional power system, the renewable energy generation has the characteristics of the traditional generator. At present, there is no unified testing method for PV virtual synchronous generators with different technical routes, and the technical regulations and test regulations of the related virtual synchronous generators at home and abroad are in blank. In this paper, a test method for rotating inertia and damping of PV virtual synchronous generator based on the function of power frequency transfer function is proposed and verified by a hardware in the loop simulation platform. This method does not need to take into account the two order and above characteristics of the virtual synchronous generator. It is suitable for various types of PV virtual synchronous generator rotation inertia test, and solves the problem of the lack of standardized test method for the damping characteristic of the virtual synchronous generator.

This paper proposes a new algorithm to autonomously operate a mixed-source microgrid - the remote field-oriented synchronous drive. GPS-based global synchronization signals allow a central controller with low-bandwidth communications to act as a synchronous drive by delivering field-oriented current references to converters. It is shown that converters can propagate drive action through the electrical network of a microgrid to actively stabilize voltage and frequency dynamics, improving voltage and frequency quality. Real-time hardware-in-the-loop experimentation is conducted using a PLECS RT Box alongside external digital converter controllers. This allows for investigation of the real-time performance of the proposed algorithm as well as a comparison with traditional governor/exciter control. It is convincingly demonstrated that the remote field-oriented drive can operate alongside existing governor and exciter controls to rapidly damp microgrid voltage and frequency dynamics even during severe disturbances such as the line-start of a large induction motor.

It is great significance to improve the automobile power characteristics, reduce the emission of the engine and improve the efficiency of fuel utilization by controlling the electronic throttle. In this paper, a nonlinear compensation controller is designed to improve tracking performance and restrain the oscillation caused by nonlinear perturbation. A system computer simulation and hardware in the loop simulation are carried out by simulink box and connecting the electronic throttle to the system to verify the feasibility of the nonlinear compensation controller. The simulation results show that the nonlinear compensation control system is significantly better than traditional PID system. The designed nonlinear compensation control throttle system has shorter regulating time, smaller overshoot and certain robustness.

For the rapid test verification of aero-engine control and gas path fault diagnosis algorithm, the rapid prototyping hardware in the loop test verification method of the aircraft engine function algorithm module was designed, which based on the virtual instrument language and rapid prototyping technology. CompactRIO and its extension boards were utilized to build the rapid prototyping test verification platform for aircraft engine function algorithm, the control algorithm and the gas path fault diagnosis algorithm was deployed to the hardware in the loop which based on rapid prototyping, for the simulation of the algorithm on the platform. Finally, as an example of a turbofan engine PID control algorithm and gas path fault diagnosis algorithm, hardware in loop simulation test verification was carried through the rapid prototyping of platform. The results show that the rapid prototyping platform and its design method can realize the algorithm verification fast and flexible. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

In this work, a novel comprehensive scheme for the coordinated control of remotely operated vehicle-manipulator systems (ROVMs) is proposed. In the proposed scheme, instead of commanding the motion of the vehicle and the manipulator separately, a human pilot commands only the manipulator's end-effector motion using a parallel- architectured six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) joystick. The generated reference motion is then converted into a set of desired ROV and manipulator joint motion by means of using a redundancy resolution scheme that provides the means to utilize redundant degrees of freedom to accomplish secondary objectives. The redundancy resolver uses the Gradient Projection Method combined with a Mamdani-based fuzzy determination of the hierarchy of the secondary objectives. The controller relies on a unified dynamic model of the system. The quasi-Lagrange method is used to derive the equations of motion in terms of the ROV body-fixed frame. For the control problem, a sliding-mode based controller is used that contains an adaptive term for the estimation of the upper bound on the lumped uncertainty vector. The hardware-in-the-loop simulation studies illustrate that detailed subsea tasks can be completed with a small, low-cost ROVM system using the proposed ROVM operation scheme.
