Due to the separation of the radar transmitter and receiver, the channel mismatch, the time and phase synchronization error between synthetic aperture radar (SAR) central electronic equipments (CEE) is the key problems of spaceborne distributed SAR system compared with the traditional single-satellite double pass interferometric SAR (InSAR) system, which has to be considered in the SAR system design, index allocation, integration and testing, verification and validation. A hardware-in-loop simulation and evaluation approach is presented for the influence analysis of CEE payload on the InSAR performance. The hardware-in-loop simulation system includes the master and slave CEE payloads, the time and phase synchronization prototypes, the on-board computer simulator, the SAR target echo signal simulator (TESS) and other auxiliary equipments. For obtaining the influence of the error source on InSAR performance, a hardware-in-loop simulation and evaluation approach based on different hardware configuration is adopted. The experiment results validate the theoretical analysis and computer-based simulation results, and show the feasibility of the time and phase synchronization scheme, which is meaningful for the implementation of the spaceborne distributed SAR system.

The interactive environment of high confidence embedded software in the field of aerospace and weaponry is complex, with many kinds of interfaces and strong real-time performance. t is a hot research topic how to build its simulation test environment nowadays. In order to solve the problems of low performance and inconvenient interface extension of traditional hardware-in-loop simulation test platform, this paper uses "hierarchical" + "distributed" design concept to design a hardware-in-loop simulation test platform based on hierarchical model. The platform uses a distributed architecture, which decomposes tasks such as test task scheduling and incentive data generation into a test controller and adopts a field protocol library to support various bus interface simulations and extensions. The platform is applied to the test of a measurement and control system, and real-time assessment is also carried out, the application and real-time assessment results show that the platform has good versatility, high test efficiency, and its real-time performance in in the level of 100(mu s).

Aiming at the development of ESP system, hardware-in-loop simulation (HILS) method based on virtual integrated technology, which combines virtual model by ADAMS/Car, virtual controller by Simulink, and LabVIEW platform, is introduced. The principle of the HILS method is explained. The structure and relation among parts of the HILS system based on virtual integrated technology are discussed, and the HILS system for ESP is developed. Experiments on this system are performed and the results are analyzed and compared.

Control strategies for hardware-in-the-loop simulation of flexible space robots

As a partner in the International Space Station (ISS), Canada is responsible for the verification of all tasks involving the special purpose dextrous manipulator (SPDM). Those verifications cannot be performed using software simulators only since the accuracy of existing contact dynamic models are yet to be confirmed, especially in the real-time mode required for verifying human operated processes. One option is to use a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HLS), where the space hardware is simulated and the contact dynamics is emulated using a rigid robot performing the tasks. The main difficulty in this approach is the trade-off between the stability of the control loop and good performance. The control of the rigid robot in the HLS is investigated. Simplified linear systems are used to determine the limitations of the classical position-based control when contact occurs. A new control scheme in which the slave robot is driven in acceleration is proposed. Both methods were tested experimentally and the results show the benefit of using this new acceleration control approach.

In the hydrostatic thrust bearing with open-loop quantity oil supply system for the heavy NC machine tool, the time-variable oil viscosity and the loads will cause the lubricant film thickness deviating from the optimum value, which reduce the bearing film rigidity and affect the machine tool precision. This paper proposed a controllable hydrostatic thrust bearing, which combined the constant flow chambers and the controllable flow chambers. The chamber flow can be adjusted automatically according to the load, the cutting force, and the thermal results of thrust bearing. The controllable chamber flow was adjusted by the electro-hydraulic servo variable mechanism. The oil film thickness error was measured in real time to maintain the most optimum film thickness. The models of controllable chamber flow and servo variable mechanism were established, and the model identification experiments for servo variable mechanism were carried on. The hardware-in-loop simulation results show that the controllable bearings assure the stability and rapidity of system, compensate effectively the effect of load parameter on oil film thickness, and improve the position tracking performance, and validate the creditability of the identification model.

Design and test of the actuation circuit of the inertial sensor for space gravitational wave detection based on hardware-in-the-loop simulation

The key scientific performance of the inertial sensor used for space gravitational wave detection is the residual acceleration noise of the test mass (TM), which is caused by the noise of inertial sensor components and external environmental noise. As the actuator of the inertial sensor, the performance of the actuator circuit affects the residual acceleration noise, but it is difficult to test the residual acceleration noise with a single actuation circuit. In this study, the actuator circuit is designed and a low-cost hardware-in-the-loop simulation system combined actuation circuit and other parts of the inertial sensor are established to test the residual acceleration noise. The system is composed of simulator electronics and software simulator, which establishes the connection between the actuation circuit with the Simulink model. The displacement sensing, probe, and drag-free model were built in Simulink to form a closed loop with the actuation circuit through the serial port. The simulation and test results show that the hardware-in-the-loop simulation system can preliminarily test the residual acceleration of TM, and the residual acceleration introduced by the actuation circuit is 2.5 x 10(-13) m s(-2) Hz(-1/2). Compared with the conventional test method, the system has the advantages of low cost, simple implementation, and easy extension to test any single inertial sensor module.

This paper develops a hardware-in-loop simulation test bench to simulate an actual battery embedded in a type 1 wind generation system. This provides an opportunity for studying batteries under realistic charge/discharge profiles as they undergo such stress cycles in a wind application. A Shepherd battery model is developed for two battery chemistries and is compared to real batteries in the loop of the real-time simulation. The outcome of this study is to show the difference in the final value of the state of charge of the batteries in a purely mathematical simulation using a battery model and in the real-time battery-in-loop simulation.

Traditionally, off-line modeling and simulation has been the tool of choice for improving wind energy system control strategies their utility system integration. This paper exploits how a newly established real-time hardware-in-loop (HIL) test facility, designed for testing all-electric ship propulsion systems, can be utilized for wind energy research. The test site uses two 2.5 MW/220 rpm dynamometers and a 5 MW variable voltage and frequency converter to emulate a realistic dynamic environment, both mechanically and electrically. The facility is controlled by a digital real-time electric power system simulator (RTDS), capable of simulating electrical networks and control systems of substantial complexity, typically with 50 microseconds time step. Substantial I/O allows the feedback of measured quantities into the simulation. A 15 kW mock-up motor-generator set is used to demonstrate some critical aspects of the concept. From dynamic test results presented it is concluded that the proposed system shows great potential for development of a one-of-a-kind wind energy research platform.
