hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation technique provides a solution to perform tests without risking damage to Line-Replaceable-Unit (LRU) and reduce costs via increasing the speed of continuous verification and validation. As an important part of verification and validation phase of a system, the hardware-in-the-loop simulation is one of the most effective techniques for an LRU system testing and makes a substantial contribution in avionics model integration process and realization of the system. Based on the hardware-in-the-loop simulation method, this paper designs the structure and parameters of a hardware-in-the-loop simulation test system for an indigenous flight control computer system test. This test system comprises of plant models, signal generation module, data acquisition module, record module, switching module for signal loss and error injection scenarios, and a graphical user interface. Test system includes a Peripheral Component Interconnect Extension for Instrumentation (PXI) chassis with a real-time operating system, hardware capable of converting the digital signals generated by an aircraft model into analog signals proper to LRU input signals and transmitting to LRU, also hardware capable of converting the digital signals generated by the flight control computer into analog signals to the control model and, moreover a recording unit in which all these signals are logged in parallel with data acquisition process.

Development and verification of real time controllers for complex mechatronic devices are important steps in order to assure performance and quality of the overall system. simulation techniques are utilized for supporting development and testing of controllers in parallel with the physical system design. In particular, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) is being investigated in the field of packaging machines. HIL requires the identification of the proper level of detail of a simulated model of the physical plant in order to be computed in real time. Moreover, the model must exhibit a behaviour similar to the real one in order to end up with a reliable controller. However, this trade-off is not easy to reach when physical processes with fast dynamics must be managed. This article deals with the issue of overcoming the real time bond in simulation environments which does not allow the access to the state space equations. In particular, it defines a process for identifying the proper time step of the resolution algorithm and guidelines for model order reduction (MOR) of the model dynamics. The proposed approach has been applied for the HIL simulation of the filling system of a packaging machine.

The path loss contribution in a modern telecommunications system is particularly critical due to the higher frequencies employed. However, this can be mitigated by improving the antenna section gain. Adaptive beam steering systems are an enabling technology to seek for this objective, by focusing the antenna pattern towards a given position in the space. In this work, we propose a novel architecture for adaptive beam steering. The phase shift is introduced in the Local Oscillator (LO) path thanks to a modified DDS-PLL structure. The adaptiveness is realized through the Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) estimation of a pilot tone signal. The proposed approach is validated through a simulation campaign involving hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) simulations.

Equivalent circuit models are widely used to describe the electrical behavior of batteries. They are also prioritized for energetic studies and driving range estimations of electric vehicles. This is mainly due to their simplicity and acceptable accuracy. This paper presents a comparison of the accuracy of two equivalent circuit models (Rint and Thevenin) under a driving scenario. For this, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a traction subsystem is used to impose a current profile into a real Li-ion battery module. This current profile is deduced from a reference velocity profile. Then, the measured battery voltage and current are compared to those of the simulated models, by imposing the same reference velocity. Results show a small error difference between the two models.

Distribution system network reconfiguration involves the optimization of the configuration of electrical distribution networks to enhance their performance, reliability, and efficiency. In this research work, distribution networks can be designed to automatically reconfigure themselves in response to faults, load changes, or other disturbances. This automatic reconfiguration can help minimize outage durations and improve system reliability. The hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation results can significantly improve distribution networks' flexibility, reliability, and efficiency.

In this paper, a systematic procedure for designing Position Tracking controllers for Unmanned Helicopters, based on mature H_2/H_∞ methodologies, is presented. Firstly, a family of linearized models describing the near-hover flight dynamics is derived which can be formulated as a nominal plant perturbed by norm bounded uncertainties on the system, control and disturbance (wind gust) matrices. The full system dynamics is then decomposed into rotational (Inner) and translational (Outer) subsystems, and separate controllers are subsequently designed. Each controller guarantees stability, robustness and gust disturbance rejection for the whole near-hover flight envelope while appropriately selected closed-loop pole regions, justify the combination of the two controllers into a composite position control scheme. The efficacy of the proposed total control structure is proved by hardware-in-the-loop simulations on an accurate nonlinear helicopter model.
