Unique identification code for medical fundus images using blood vessel pattern for tele-ophthalmology applications

Background and objective: identification of fundus images during transmission and storage in database for tele-ophthalmology applications is an important issue in modem era. The proposed work presents a novel accurate method for generation of unique identification code for identification of fundus images for tele-ophthalmology applications and storage in databases. Unlike existing methods of steganography and watermarking, this method does not tamper the medical image as nothing is embedded in this approach and there is no loss of medical information. Methods: Strategic combination of unique blood vessel pattern and patient ID is considered for generation of unique identification code for the digital fundus images. Segmented blood vessel pattern near the optic disc is strategically combined with patient ID for generation of a unique identification code for the image. Results: The proposed method of medical image identification is tested on the publically available DRIVE and MESSIDOR database of fundus image and results are encouraging. Conclusions: Experimental results indicate the uniqueness of identification code and lossless recovery of patient identity from unique identification code for integrity verification of fundus images. In the literature, a reference terminology for labelling octopus arms exists, but a convention for the labelling of octopus suckers is so far lacking. The precise identification and subsequent ability to address a specific sucker is impossible without some type of convention. In this work, we propose an Octopus Sucker identification code, with three/five characters, depending on whether the octopus species has one or two rows of suckers. Specifically, two characters identify the arm to which the sucker belongs, one integer identifies the sucker position along the arm and two subscript characters (present in cases of octopus species with two rows of suckers) identify the adjacent arm towards which the sucker is faced. The proposed code allows the unequivocal identification of the suckers of any octopus arm of any octopus species.

Channel resolvability concerns the minimum resolution for approximating the channel output. We study the resolvability of classical-quantum channels in two settings, for the channel output generated from the worst input, and from the fixed independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) input. The direct part of the worst-input setting is derived from sequential hypothesis testing as it involves non-i.i.d. inputs. The strong converse of the worst-input setting is obtained via the connection to identification codes. For the fixed-input setting, while the direct part follows from the known quantum soft covering result, we exploit the recent alternative quantum Sanov theorem to prove the strong converse. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

On multiple incidences of terrorist attacks in recent times across Europe, it has been observed that the perpetrators of the attack were in the suspect databases of the law enforcement authorities, but weren't under active surveillance at the time of the attack due to resource limitations on the part of the authorities. As the suspect databases in various European countries are very large, and it takes significant amount of technical and human resources to monitor a suspect in the database, monitoring all the suspects in the database may be an impossible task. In this paper, we propose a scheme utilizing Identifying codes that will significantly reduce the resource requirement of law enforcement authorities, and will have the capability of uniquely identifying a suspect in case the suspect becomes active in planning a terrorist attack. The scheme relies on the assumption that, when an individual becomes active in planning a terrorist attack, his/her friends/associates will have some inkling of the individuals plan. Accordingly, even if the individual is not under active surveillance by the authorities, but the individual's friends/associates are, the individual planning the attack can be uniquely identified. We applied our technique on two terrorist networks, one involved in an attack in Paris and the other involved in the 9/11 attack. We show that, in the Paris network, if 5 of the 10 individuals were monitored, the attackers most likely would have been exposed. If only 15 out of the 37 individuals involved in the 9/11 attack were under surveillance, specific individuals involved in the planning of the 9/11 attack would have been exposed.

This paper proposes an algorithm for generating unique and non-informative identification code for security of medical fundus images in tele-medicine applications. Unlike the conventional methods like watermarking, the proposed technique does not tamper the medical images which ensure no loss of medical information. The unique digital pattern is generated from strategically combination of statistical features of fundus image in wavelet domain and digital patient ID. The Patient data can be recovered accurately only on access of generated unique digital pattern to solve the security issue of fundus images. The proposed algorithm is experimented on publically accessible DRlVE dataset of medical fundus image and attained promising results in identification of fundus images. The presented work can therefore be implemented in telemedicine industry and its applications where precise and loss-less verification is mandatory as this may have a huge impact at times when human life is at stake.

For at least the past five decades,structural synthesis has been used as a main means of finding better mechanisms with some predefined *** structural synthesis,isomorphism identification is still a problem unsolved well,and to solve this problem is very significant to the design of new *** to the given degree of freedom（DOF） and link connection property of planar closed chain mechanisms,vertex assortment is *** solving the isomorphism problem,a method of the adding sub-chains is proposed with the detailed steps and algorithms in the synthesizing *** this method,the identification code and formation code of every topological structure are achieved,therefore many isomorphic structures could be eliminated in time during structural synthesis by comparing those codes among different topological graphs,resulting in the improvement of synthesizing efficiency and accuracy,and the approach for eliminating rigid sub-chains in and after the synthesizing process is also *** examples are given,including how to add sub-chains,how to detect simple rigid sub-chains and how to obtain identification codes and formulation codes et *** the adding sub-chain method,the relative information of some common topological graphs is given in the form of *** comparison result is coincident with many literatures,so the correctness of the adding sub-chain method is *** method will greatly improve the synthesizing efficiency and accuracy,and has a good potential for application.

Purpose - As additive manufacturing techniques, such as selective laser melting, allow for straightforward production of parts on basis of simple computer-aided design files only, unauthorized replication can be facilitated. Thus, identification and tracking of individual parts are increasingly vital in light of globalized competition. This paper aims to overcome the susceptibility of additive manufacturing techniques for product piracy by establishing a method for introducing and reading out product identification markers not visible by naked-eye inspection. Design/methodology/approach - Lasers of different nominal power were used for altering the solidification mechanisms during processing in distinct areas of the samples. The resulting local microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties, respectively, were determined by scanning electron microscopy and hardness measurements. The applicability of an advanced eddy current technique for reading out local differences in electro-magnetic properties was examined. Findings - The findings show that distinct microstructural features are obtained in dependence of the locally applied laser power. These features manifest themselves not only in terms of grain morphology, texture and hardness but also induce changes in the local electro-magnetic properties. The inscribed pattern can be non-destructively visualized by using an advanced eddy current technique. Originality/value - Conventional copy protection basically consists in supplementary labelling or surface modification. In the present study, a new method is proposed for additively manufactured parts, overcoming the drawbacks of the former methods through process-induced microstructure manipulation. Slight alterations in the electro-magnetic material properties can be detected by advanced eddy current method allowing for identification of arbitrary and inimitable component information in additively manufactured parts.

Secure media content distribution based on the improved set-top box in IPTV

In this paper, some means are proposed to improve the performances of the set-top box (STB) based media distribution schemes for IPTV. Firstly, the lightweight packet encryption is used to replace traditional complete encryption in order to reduce the time cost. Secondly, a method is introduced to form a unique customer code and generates a unique media copy for each customer in order to trace illegal redistributors. Thirdly, the desynchronization operations are introduced to make different copies in order to resist collusion attacks. Analyses and experiments show that the proposed packet encryption saves much time cost compared with traditional encryption and the saved time cost is enough for the added new operations. Additionally, the produced media copy is different from each other, and their collusion will generate a copy with much degradation, which can resist the content leakage from the gap between STB and TV set(1).

New plan issues standard IDs for viruses

Proponents are about to initiate a project designed to issue standard identification codes for viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. This plan is designed to end the confusion produced by the current practice of security companies each having their own name for a specific type of malware. The US Computer Emergency Readiness Team - which coordinates cyberattack responses as part of the US Department of Homeland Security - has finished testing its Common Malware Enumeration (CME) project and is making it available for adoption by security companies. The MITRE Corp., which conducts R&D programs for the federal government, runs the CME project for US-CERT with the help of antivirus companies. When a malware attack occurs, an industry researcher would submit a code sample and a description to CME officials. A CME panel of security-company representatives would discuss the malware and determine whether it is the same as or different from an existing threat. If different, the board would issue an identifier. MITRE would then publish information about the malware on the CME Web site.

Several nonasymptotic formulas are established in channel resolvability and identification capacity, and they are applied to the wiretap channel. By using these formulas, the E capacities of the above three problems are considered in the most general setting, where no structural assumptions such as the stationary memoryless property are made on a channel. As a result, we solve an open problem proposed by Han and Verdu. Moreover, we obtain lower bounds of the exponents of error probability and the wiretapper's information in the wiretap channel.
