In TFT-LCD manufacturing process, various defects are generated by manufacturing machine trouble or particle. These defects can be repaired through the TFT-laser repair process that only canpsilat be automated in TFT-LCD manufacturing process. In this paper, we propose auto defect algorithm for TFT-LCD laser repair machine using image processing algorithm in order to automate process. Proposed algorithm can detect very small defects (under 2 um) in 98% success ratio, and generated laser repair path guarantee highly precise position accuracy. Through proposed system, much of the work still done the old-fashioned way, by hand, can be automated and manufacturing company can be strengthen the competitiveness of cost.

Vascular segmentation through the use of image processing tools provides significant information that allows for the accurate diagnosis, categorization, registration, and visualization of vascular disease. Currently, in the assessment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), radiologists manually segment different regions on interest on each medical image to create a full volume of the abdominal aorta. Such manual segmentation is a time consuming task, prone to errors and a subjective approach especially when non-contrast enhanced images are present. In this paper, we introduce an automatic system to segment the aortic lumen in non-contrast enhanced CT scans and PC-MR images using digital image processing algorithms where image enhancement, denoising, edge detection, and regional growing algorithms are utilized. The output of this work forms the basis for a future reliable inner and outer wall segmentation of the AAA.

In order to solve the problem of automation of cable number identification in the process of cable assembly of large equipment, we proposed a cable number detection and recognition method based on image Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER) and convolutional neural network (CNN). We used image processing algorithms combined with deep learning to achieve end-to-end identification of cable number images. In view of the uncertain arrangement order and scattered distribution of numbers on the cable, the MSER algorithm was improved by image processing in order to extract the area containing numbers more accurately. The number identification problem in the case of lack of sample database is solved by the migration-trained CNN network. In addition, the recognition effect of the method under different environmental conditions has been studied. Through experimental research, the optimized MSER and CNN algorithms can better complete the cable number detection and identification tasks.

Developing image-processing algorithms based on machine learning is a challenging problem concerning the huge amount of thoroughly annotated data needed. The internet provides many already tagged images for basic classification problems like vegetables or different cars, but not for more narrow problems. In order to extend and evaluate the previously presented parking guidance system from our previous work, in this paper, we propose a simulation system based on Unreal Engine 4. We developed an artificial camera which implements all features of a real camera, e.g., lens distortion, motion blur etc. to export video data from the simulated environment. This data is then compared to real-world video footage by using our classification module that distinguishes occupied and free parking lots. We reached a classification rate between 92.28% and 99.72% depending on the parking rows' distance using DoG-features and a support vector machine.

The development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as pedestrian detection, requires real-time update rates at high image resolution. Hopefully, heterogeneous architectures with high computing performance have been developed for this purpose. To benefit from this hardware performance, different programming languages and acceleration frameworks have been developed. OpenVX framework provides a graph-based execution model to program image processing algorithms on heterogeneous platforms. In this work, we investigate OpenVX optimizations for computer vision applications. We examine how this framework responds to different data access patterns. We test three important optimizations of OpenVX: kernels merge, data tiling and parallelization via OpenMP. The contribution and the impact of each optimization on different data access pattern are explained.

In this paper we present the contactless active optical sensor for driver fatigue detection in variable weather and lighting conditions. The fatigue was determined by monitoring activity of the eyes. In our case the bright pupil effect was used. The brightness of the pupil was increased by developing a new keying technique of controlling the IR emitter signal. This technique caused the brightness to increase in comparison to the continuous signal by 50%on average. The new developed sensor, as well as, the image processing algorithm was used during the construction of the driver fatigue monitoring system. The system detects fatigue by analyzing the variability of the following signals: PERCLOSE, PEROPEN, blink frequency, activity of the eyes and pupil diameter.

Stochastic encoding represents a value using the probability of ones in a random bit stream. Computation based on this encoding has good fault-tolerance and low hardware cost. However, one of its major issues is long processing time. We have to use a long enough bit stream to represent a value to guarantee that random fluctuations introduce only small errors to final computation results. For example, for most digital image processing algorithms, we need a 512-bit stream to represent an 8-bit pixel value stochastically to guarantee that the final computation error is less than 5%. To solve this issue, this paper proposes to share bits between adjacent bit streams to represent adjacent deterministic values. For example, in image processing applications, the bit stream which represents the current pixel value can share parts of the bits in the bit stream which represents the previous pixel value. We use an image contrast stretching algorithm to evaluate this method. Our experimental results show that the proposed methods can improve the performance by 90%.

We address the problem of position control of micro-chips (chiplets) immersed in dielectric fluid. An electric field, shaped by controlling the voltages of spiral shaped electrodes, is used to reliably and accurately transport and position chiplets using dielectrophoretic forces. A lumped, capacitive based (nonlinear) motion model is used to generate an open loop control policy. The open loop policy is generated using a one step model predictive control approach. By exploiting the spatial symmetry and periodicity of the open loop control solution, a real-time control scheme is designed by applying simple algebraic operations to a base function defined on a finite domain. The chiplet position is tracked using image processing algorithms. We demonstrate the validity of our approach by describing an experimental result, where real-time control is used to move a chiplet for 1000μm in a controlled manner.

This paper demonstrates the adaptive illumination methods for the implementations of Colorimetric (also known as absorbance detection), Fluorescence and Luminescence ELISA models using a standalone or mobile imaging setup with data processing techniques and prediction algorithms. These ELISA modelling systems, mainly depend on the quality of the images and the image processing algorithms employed for accuracy and reliability. The assay concentration estimations for such systems are greatly dependent upon the light absorbance and transmittance properties of the chemical compounds that make up the analytic biochemistry assay and are highly influenced by the quality and intensity of the backlight panel used in these device setups. The goal is to develop an independent lighting module which would subsequently result in better images, and a more accurate system that would be applicable for a wide variety of ELISA imaging systems.

Physicians use ultrasound scans to obtain real-time images of internal organs, because such scans are safe and inexpensive. However, people in remote areas face difficulties to be scanned due to aging society and physician's shortage. Hence, it is important to develop an autonomous robotic system to perform remote ultrasound scans. Previously, we developed a robotic system for automatic ultrasound scan focusing on human's liver. In order to make it a completely autonomous system, we present in this paper a way to autonomously localize the epigastric region as the starting position for the automatic ultrasound scan. An image processing algorithm marks the umbilicus and mammary papillae on a digital photograph of the patient's abdomen. Then, we made estimation for the location of the epigastric region using the distances between these landmarks. A supporting algorithm distinguishes rib position from epigastrium using the relationship between force and displacement. We implemented these algorithms with the automatic scanning system into an apparatus: a Mitsubishi Electric's MELFA RV-1 six axis manipulator. Tests on 14 healthy male subjects showed the apparatus located the epigastric region with a success rate of 94%. The results suggest that image recognition was effective in localizing a human body part.
