This paper presents an analysis of code implementation performance for image processing algorithms. The test is made for image processing algorithms for robotic arms, but it is suitable for any type of image processing software. image processing software can use quite big amount of resources, so this way it can be tested which platform, which operating system or which programming language is the most suitable for usage. The image processing task is a color detection task with some line and circle overlays for robotic arm's guidance. The implementations were tested base on code line numbers, code size on disk, binary file size on disk, used memory during execution and used CPU during execution.

During the last decade, portable ultrasound devices have been proven beneficial in a variety of situations (e.g. OB/GYN, point of care and cardiovascular applications). The aim of this work is to investigate the feasibility of implementing standard signal and image processing algorithms on a tablet device, instead of the scanner's backend unit. Furthermore, the additional benefit of using the tablet's graphical processing unit to offload the CPU intensive tasks and balance the battery consumption was tested. A plugin for streaming data over a wired or wireless TCP/IP connection from an ultrasound scanner was implemented and data sent to a tablet device which runs the image and signal processing algorithms. The use of compute shaders for further optimizations was investigated. The prototype was tested by midwives, both experienced and inexperienced in the use of ultrasound, in Norway and South Africa. Afterwards they were asked to fill out standard system usability scale forms. Conclusively, most of the backend components of an ultrasound scanner can be implemented on a tablet's GPU. Compute shaders have a significant impact on battery consumption, which can be reduced by a factor of up to 3 and as such significantly extend the scanning time of a portable system.

Optical-coherence tomography (OCT) is a promising non-invasive, high-resolution imaging modality which can be used for cancer diagnosis and its therapeutic assessment. However, speckle noise makes detection of cancer boundaries and image segmentation problematic and unreliable. Therefore, to improve the image analysis for a precise cancer border detection, the performance of different image processing algorithms such as mean, median, hybrid median filter and rotational kernel transformation (RKT) for this task is investigated. This is done on OCT images acquired from an ex-vivo human cancerous mucosa and in vitro by using cultivated tumour applied on organotypical hippocampal slice cultures. The preliminary results confirm that the border between the healthy and the cancer lesions can be identified precisely. The obtained results are verified with fluorescence microscopy. This research can improve cancer diagnosis and the detection of borders between healthy and cancerous tissue. Thus, it could also reduce the number of biopsies required during screening endoscopy by providing better guidance to the physician.

This paper describes the benchmarking of image processing algorithms using high-performance workstations and personal desktop computers. For the various platforms evaluated which included machines from Sun, SGI, Apple, and Gateway, compiler options were varied to obtain the fastest execution times. algorithms evaluated included typical image processing operations such as derivatives, logical operations, morphology, subtraction, median filter, and the new SKIPSM approach. Data were collected using the different platforms and are presented here in tabular form. The results indicate that the latest generation of personal computers have processing capabilities that are similar to UNIX-based work stations.

This investigation quantifies the dynamic geometries of Antarctic active subglacial lakes by leveraging satellite altimetry data and an image processing algorithm. Using high-resolution altimetry satellite data from 2010 to 2023 and a computer-vision-based contour finding algorithm to delineate contours of ice-surface, heightchange anomalies indicative of lake activity, we generated evolving outlines of 131 previously identified Antarctic active subglacial lakes. Evolving outlines provided a novel time series of wetted area to quantify changes in the bed substrate available for geochemical and microbial processes. Evolving outlines revealed previously unseen transitory lake lobes that refine preexisting time series of height change and ice-volume displacement, from which we can infer subglacial water flux. The findings underscore the value of employing evolving subglacial lake outlines to record active subglacial lake geometric changes across Antarctica and suggest broader glaciological applications, such as the identification of new active subglacial lake candidates.

Digital image processing technology is currently limited by the accuracy and processing speed of existing methods. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel computer digital image processing algorithm based on Mask R-CNN. The proposed algorithm utilizes residual structures to replace most of the images that act on fully connected layers in the model architecture, enabling the extraction of image features based on the Mask R-CNN algorithm. Furthermore, a digital image processing method is designed, an objective function is established, and feature information is obtained. Under the joint action of the encoding and decoding layers, the network structure of the generator is derived. Experimental results demonstrate that the processed images exhibit high peak signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity coefficient, and low mean square error, with a running time consistently below 0.13 seconds. Future research directions include investigating higher precision pixel images to further enhance image processing accuracy and speed.

In the field of non-destructive testing, Terahertz (THz) tomography is a modern imaging technique permitting 3D inspection of opaque objects. A tomographic procedure reconstructs a 3D volume of the acquired object by intersecting the data contained on the projection set. This depth information is extracted from several projections acquired around the object at different viewing angles. This property has made THz tomography a complementary technique to X-Rays. Several reconstruction methods have been investigated for THz tomography [1] but they must be adapted to THz wave properties. For monochromatic source, Beer-Lambert law describes the attenuation encountered by THz waves through the sample and measured on the detector, when reflexion and refraction effects are neglected. Then, as their complements in X-Ray tomography, we investigate in this paper on a Maximum-Likelihood expectation-maximization for TRansmission tomography (ML-TR) compatible with THz radiations. This method, based on Poisson distribution model of measured radiations, takes into account the Gaussian propagation of THz beam [2] and allows introducing some a priori knowledge about the imaged object. Especially, we focus on the implementation denoted Ordered Subsets Convex (OSC) algorithm since it has an efficient convergence rate despite of the noise level and the sparsity of acquired data [3]. We discuss how this new reconstruction is able to estimate physical properties of samples acquired with a 100GHz/300GHz scanner in addition to the 3D reconstruction. Moreover, we present an innovative data and image processing sequence to perform non-destructive inspection from 3D terahertz (THz) images. After a 3D tomographic reconstruction of a sample, a preset segmentation affords the different regions of interest (ROI) composing the inert part of sample. The key dimensions of train wheelsets change with the increase of running time. To ensure the safe operation of the train, the key dimensions should meet the relevant technical requirements. Maintenance of wheelsets and measurement of key dimensions are important part of the daily maintenance work. A rapid measurement method based on image processing algorithms for key dimensions of hand-held wheelsets integrating multiple parameter measurements is studied. The general framework of the system is examined and the roles of the modules are described. The optical center for the initial position of the continuous line spot is searched. The continuous line spot center extraction algorithm during tread measurement is optimized. A three-dimensional model is reconstructed using point cloud data, then key dimensions are measured and calculated from the model. In order to verify the feasibility of the method, traditional measurement methods are used for comparison tests. The results show that the method is effective in the daily maintenance of trains.

Real Time Quality Detection and Automatic Recognition of Concrete Structures: image processing Algorithm Based on Deep Learning

The safety and durability of concrete structure is an important issue in engineering quality management. In this paper, an image processing algorithm based on deep learning is proposed to realize real-time quality inspection and automatic defect identification of concrete structures. This algorithm uses the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to automatically extract the features of concrete surface quality images, and then identify the existence of defects, thus improving the detection efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, for this method, data samples with different specific structures are collected and manually labeled to the data set; then, a multi-layer CNN model with convolution layer, pool layer and full connection layer is designed to train the model, and then image enhancement technology is used to reduce information noise, and data enhancement technology is used to improve the problem-solving ability of the model. In addition, the strategy of Dropout is used to close some nodes to reduce parameters and prevent over-fitting, and the learning rate is adjusted to optimize the classification effect. In addition, this study constructs an all-weather real-time detection framework, including data acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, classification and identification and decision-making alarm system, to ensure the rapid positioning of the detection system. To sum up, the results of this study show that the deep learning image processing algorithm has good contrast performance in the field of real-time quality inspection of concrete structures. CNN model has better performance than GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) and LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) models in detection time, defect identification resolution and detection accuracy. The maximum detection time is 366ms and the shortest is 213 ms. The successful development of this algorithm provides a new method for automatic detection of concrete structure quality, which has important application value
