Digital copyright protection has become increasingly important in recent times due to the rapid growth of the Internet and the proliferation of P2P technologies. Copyright protection of digital images and videos are of particular interest since they can easily be pirated and distributed illegally across networks. Existing watermarking methods can embed a signature into a digital image and tend to be robust against signal noise and but less so against geometric transforms. Methods that are more robust against geometric manipulation are often implemented at great computational cost. This paper proposes a lower cost method using point patterns inspired in part by automated star trackers used in astronomy. The method is evaluated and presents some advantages over existing approaches. Weaknesses of the method and areas for future work are also discussed.

In linear image deconvolution problems, the blur operator is usually assumed to be known, but in practice, this information is mostly unavailable. Therefore, image restoration must be done using only the observed noisy and blurred image. Recently, a blind image deconvolution method which utilized a two-dimensional version of the constant-modulus algorithm was proposed, but it had a problem such that as the bit number representing the pixel value increased, the performance of the method decreased. It worked for six- or less-bit images. In the work presented here, we address this problem and develop a solution by using a complex mapping diagram for image values and utilizing a complex-valued adaptive filter. The visual and numerical results show that the proposed method can remove the blur from the degraded image even when the bit number is as high as eight (which is usually the case in practice).

As more people start using the Internet and more content is placed online, the chances that individuals will encounter inappropriate or unwanted adult-oriented content increases. This paper presents a practical and scalable method to efficiently detect many adult-content images, specifically pornographic images. We currently use this system in a search engine that covers a large fraction of the images on the WWW. For each image, face detection is applied and a number of summary features are computed;the results are then fed to a support vector machine for classification. The results show that a significant fraction of adult-content images can be detected.

This paper presents a framework for tracking sports players in videos recorded by static domestic cameras. In the proposed approach, motion and appearance model is utilized to tracking objects as details of the objects appearance is hard to obtain in low resolution videos. To assign observed objects to a trajectory, a matching process base upon the motion and appearance model is provided. In the presence of occlusion, the data association may fail to assign objects to some tracks. In this situation, the confliction is detected and some patches are generated to acquire more information to eliminate the puzzles. Then the trajectories are updated with or without observations. In the final step of tracking, new tracks are formed and some trajectories are deleted. As the foundation of tracking, Gaussian background model is utilized to segment out the players. The proposed method has been tested on real soccer game videos. The test results show that the system can successfully track multiple players independently and keep trajectories when occlusions occur.

We report a new method of fluorescence lifetime imaging that uses the ultra-fast optical temporal gate properties of parametric image amplification. images with different lifetimes in the picosecond range are resolved with reliable and reproducible results. All these results are in good agreement with the lifetimes measured with a streak camera.
