Software experiments such as BLAST are hard to reproduce even if identical hardware is available because external data sets could have changed, software used in the original experiment may be unavailable, or the input parameters for the experiment may not be documented. This paper presents Rex, a toolset that allows one to record an experiment and archive its apparatus, replay an experiment, conduct new experiments on a recorded apparatus, and compare differences between experiments. The execution time overhead of recording experiments is on average about 2%;the space overhead of an archive ranges from 8 MB to 5 GB.

Optimization techniques are widely used tools in the engineering sector and suitable to all the fields of mechanical engineering. Welding is an important manufacturing process and its parameter optimization is highly focused on getting optimal results. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) is the suitable arc weld- ing process joining variety of the engineering materials. This process has various parameters like welding current, speed, arc length, shielding gas and gas type etc. A lot of attempts were made by the researchers to get an optimal outcome like the appearance of the weld bead and tensile strength etc ... In this article, various optimization techniques used in GTAW process are discussed. The widely used optimization methods, GTAW parameters and the outcomes are discussed from the literature. These result will help the researchers to avoid selecting same techniques and parameters. This paper will give guidelines to the researchers to focus on new studies. ? 2019 Elsevier Ltd. A pivotal development of the obsolescence of conventional methods of sheet forming has enhanced the need of augmenting an agile and novel method of fabricating the tailored components according to the requirements of customers and users. Moreover, businessmen are interested to promote their businesses by manufacturing the tailored and customized parts of intricated and complex geometries at a lower cost and with negligible waste. Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF), also known as "negative incremental forming", avoids the direct use of any kind of specific die-sets and produces the user-ready parts. The investigation of the surface quality of the formed specimen is important to study the suitability of this process for industrial applications. This paper explores the effects of the interactions of tool radius and forming angle on the surface roughness of parts formed by the SPIF process. A full factorial approach was taken into account as DOE. The average roughness was found to rise with the rise in forming an angle. On the other hand, the increase in tool diameter resulted in the decrease of Ra value of formed components because the increase in the tool diameter allows the decrease in the waviness on the surface of the specimen. It was observed that the Ra value of formed components was decreased by 83.87% when the experimental condition was changed from the combination of higher levels of wall angle (68 degrees) and lower level of tool diameter (7.52 mm) to the combination of lower levels of wall angle (60 degrees) anda higher level of tool diameter (19.50 mm). Machining of pure sintered titanium by conventional technique is difficult because of its very high specific strength, abrasion and corrosion resistances and finds immense applications in bio-implants and aerospace components. Wire Cut Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) has evolved as one of the most important non-traditional machining processes because of its uniqueness towards producing components which are difficult to machine like titanium, tungsten carbide, Inconel etc and also give a platform for producing intricate complex shape which might be impossible to machine by conventional machining methods. In the present work, Wire Cut Electrical Discharge Machining on pure sintered titanium is studied. The different input parameters of Wire Cut Electrical Discharge machining like, pulse on time, pulse off time, wire tension and wire feed have been varied to investigate the output response like Kerf Width and Over Cut. A response surface methodology (4 factors 3 level) design of experiment (DOE) has been applied in this context to examine the machining ability of pure sintered titanium and results are found to be satisfactory and verified by confirmatory test. The machining parameters like pulse on time, pulse off time, wire tension and wire feed shows immense effect on the output responses and present study provide an optimal conditions of these input parameters to get the best output responses through response surface methodology. Most trajectory clustering algorithms including the famous TRACLUS require the setting of two input parameters and are sensitive to input parameters. Incorrect setting may cause the algorithm to produce the wrong clusters. Aiming at this vulnerability, we propose a Shielding parameters Sensitivity Trajectory Clustering algorithm named SPSTC. Firstly, we present some definitions about the core distance and reachable distance of line segment, according to which generates cluster sorting. Secondly, reachable plots of line segment sets are constructed according to cluster sorting and reachable distance. Thirdly, parameterized sequence is extracted according to reachable plot, and then the final trajectory clustering based on parameterized sequence is acquired. Parameterized sequence represents inner clustering structure of trajectory data. The experimental results on real and synthetic trajectory data demonstrate that the SPSTC algorithm reduces the sensitivity to input parameters remarkably and improves the efficiency of trajectory clustering while keeps the quality of trajectory clustering.

Streamflow time series is gaining importance in planning, management and operation of water resources system day by day. In order to plan a system in an optimal way, especially when sufficient historical data are not available, the only choice left is to generate synthetic streamflow. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been successfully used in the past for streamflow forecasting and monthly synthetic streamflow generation. The capability of ANN to generate synthetic series of river discharge averaged over different time steps with limited data has been investigated in the present study. While an ANN model with certain input parameters can generate a monthly averaged streamflow series efficiently, it fails to generate a series of smaller time steps with the same accuracy. The scope of improving efficiency of ANN in generating synthetic streamflow by using different combinations of input data has been analyzed. The developed models have been assessed through their application in the river Subansiri in India. Efficiency of the ANN Models has been evaluated by comparing ANN generated series with the historical series and the series generated by Thomas-Fiering model on the basis of three statistical parameters-periodical mean, periodical standard deviation and skewness of the series. The results reveal that the periodical mean. of the series generated by both Thomas -Fiering and ANN models is in good agreement with that of the historical series. However, periodical standard deviation and skewness coefficient of the series generated by Thomas-Fiering model are inferior to that of the series generated by ANN.

The European Union passed the Environmental Noise Directive in 2002. The Directive deals with issues relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise in Member States. This main EU instrument requires that the information on environmental noise and its effects are predicted as accurately as possible. In general, the most accurate data on noise levels can be collected by measurement;however, it is a lengthy and complicated method, inapplicable to making predictions of noise levels in practice. The acoustic situation is therefore more easily determined by calculation. The Directive recommends the "Schall 03" Methodology for the calculations of tramway noise levels. Strategic noise maps are regularly produced to provide an overview on noise levels in residential areas and noise management action plans are prepared to reduce unacceptable exposures to noise. The article analyses input parameters used in the calculations of final levels of tramway noise. The basis for the analysis was a parametric study of input data, field measurements and the statistical evaluation of the measurement results. After making some generalizations and analyzing the influence of individual parameters on the calculation of tramway noise levels, it can be stated that the emphasis in calculations should be placed on the most accurate determination of the speed of a tram. MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is a popular metal joining process due to its ability to weld a wide variety of metals. The mechanical properties of a weld are governed by the weld geometry parameters, namely the height of reinforcement, the width of the bead and penetration depth. The input welding parameters like wire feed rate, voltage, welding speed etc. in turn decide the above bead geometry parameters. The present research work aims at developing mathematical models connecting these input parameters to the bead geometry parameters for MIG welded aluminium 6101 plates. The mathematical models were generated by the central composite rotatable design technique. The developed models' adequacy was verified by ANOVA (Analysis of variance) and RSM (Response Surface Methodology) was used to analyze the results graphically. Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Single point incremental forming is an emerging die-less forming technique that has been evolved in the beginning of current century. The relevance and suitability of this process have been proved for various applications to fill the needs of customized production. This technique can trigger the revolution in the field of sheet material forming as it exempts the use of costly dies and punches that is otherwise essential part of conventional forming techniques. The prediction and measurement of forming forces during SPIF process determine the size of forming machinery and additional hardware along with preventing the failures of facilities. In this work, maximal axial forming forces have been investigated under the effects of interactions of significant input variables like step size, wall angle and spindle speed. Results showed that components could be formed with minimal axial peak force (863 N, in this case) when the combination of lower step size (0.2 mm) and lower wall angle (60°) was employed. On the other hand, very high axial peak force was obtained (1458 N, in this case) when the combination of higher step size (1.2 mm) and higher wall angle (68°) was employed. Moreover, employment of higher wall angle and step size resulted in the fracture of sheet material well before achieving the designed height of conical frustums. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Gas tungsten arc welding is an electric arc welding process. In GTAW, an arc is developed in mid of the work which is to be welded and an inexhaustible tungsten electrode. Its vast and protean usage allows it to be used in various industries like automotive, chemical, rail-car manufacturing with potential to weld any metal with exceptional weld character. TIG happens to be an arc-based welding process, and as a consequence of it, brisk cycles of cooling and heating are detected in this process, rendering the weldment to irregular thermal expansions and contractions giving rise to stresses and ultimately leading to distortions. Weld distortions cause quality-related issues and undesirable deformation of the weld which creates assembly problems. These distortions are of various types like longitudinal and transverse distortions, bowing, dishing, buckling, twisting, etc. Careful study over the years through various surveys and reports found that most pronouncing of these distortions happens to be angular distortion. In angular distortion, the distortion is transverse to the welding direction which is induced by shrinkage near the fusion zone causing a change in the angle of the parts. The present investigative work aims to analyze and report the effects of certain parameters on angular distortion. Torch angle, welding current, and welding speed are those parameters. The work material has been chosen as grade 304. This steel contains chromium (15–20%) and nickel (2–10.5%) as the main non-ferrous constituents. The material has exceptionally good corrosion resistance and finds extensive usage in food processing and chemical industry. The present work is carried out on thin sheets of this material which are used in food processing industry, and it is expected that the outcomes of this work shall be of use to industrial applications.
