Port have a great impact on both the rise of the regions and the development of regional economy through the morden history. In this paper, the mechanism of the effects on hinterland regional economy by port economy will be analyzed and divided into direct contribution, indirect contribution, induced contribution. Based on the mechanism analysis of port economy effect, methods to study port economy contribution can be built. The features and structure of econometrics, computable general equilibrium, input-output method will be used properly.

Analysis of virtual water consumption in China: using factor decomposition analysis based on a weighted average decomposition model

Exploring the cause-and-effect relationship between economic sectors and water resources is important to China. This study implemented a factor decomposition analysis by weighted average decomposition (WAD) model on the changes of Chinese virtual water (VW) consumption between 2002 and 2007, which includes both direct water consumption (consumed to produce final products) and indirect water consumption (consumed to produce intermediate products). The change in VW consumption is decomposed into three determinant factors: technological effect, economic structural effect and the products' scale effect. The results show that the volume of VW consumption in China has decreased from 5.92x10(11)m(3) in 2002 to 5.17x10(11)m(3) in 2007, which is mainly because of the technological effect (-5.48x10(11)m(3)). The increase in net VW exports is mainly due to the economic structure effect (6.19x10(9)m(3)) and the fast growth of exports (3.49x10(10)m(3)).

Growing demand for urban built spaces has resulted in unprecedented exponential rise in production and consumption of building materials in construction. Production of materials requires significant energy and contributes to pollution and green house gas (GHG) emissions. Efforts aimed at reducing energy consumption and pollution involved with the production of materials fundamentally requires their quantification. Embodied energy (EE) of building materials comprises the total energy expenditure involved in the material production including all upstream processes such as raw material extraction and transportation. The current paper deals with EE of a few common building materials consumed in bulk in Indian construction industry. These values have been assessed based on actual industrial survey data. Current studies on EE of building materials lack agreement primarily with regard to method of assessment and energy supply assumptions (whether expressed in terms of end use energy or primary energy). The current paper examines the suitability of two basic methods;process analysis and input-output method and identifies process analysis as appropriate for EE assessment in the Indian context. A comparison of EE values of building materials in terms of the two energy supply assumptions has also been carried out to investigate the associated discrepancy. The results revealed significant difference in EE of materials whose production involves significant electrical energy expenditure relative to thermal energy use. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Does urbanization lead to more direct and indirect household carbon dioxide emissions? Evidence from China during 1996-2012

China is experiencing a stage of rapid urban development. The energy consumption and related carbon dioxide emissions of households continue to increase. This paper calculates direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions of households based on the input output method in China from 1996 to 2012. The results reveal that there were more total carbon dioxide emissions from urban households than from rural households, far more indirect emissions from urban households than from rural households, slightly more direct emissions from urban households than from rural households, and differences in direct carbon dioxide emissions from various fuels and in indirect emissions from various sectors between urban and rural households. To examine the causal relationship between urbanization and the carbon dioxide emissions of households, cointegration and Granger causality tests are applied. A unidirectional causal relation was found running from urbanization to both direct and indirect household carbon dioxide emissions, and the direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions of households would increase 2.9% and 1.1%, respectively, for every increase of one percent in urbanization. We discuss the reasons of why the development of urbanization will lead to more household direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions, and suggest certain policy implications for urbanization and carbon dioxide emissions based on the results of this study. Reliable observer-based H_∞ control for discrete-time fuzzy systems with time-varying delays and stochastic actuator faults via scaled small gain theorem

This paper is concerned with the reliable observer-based H-infinity control problem for discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time-varying delay and stochastic actuator faults based on input-output approach. A discrete-time homogeneous Markov chain is used to represent the stochastic behavior of actuator faults. First, the discrete-time T-S fuzzy system is transformed into the form of interconnection of two subsystems by employing a new model transformation for the delayed state variables. Furthermore, a sufficient condition on discrete-time T-S fuzzy systems with time-varying delay and actuator faults, which guarantees the corresponding closed-loop system to be stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H-infinity. performance, is derived by employing the scaled small gain theorem. Meanwhile, the solvability condition for the reliable observer-based H-infinity control is also established, by which the reliable H-infinity fuzzy controller can be solved as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). According to the input and output table of Jiangsu province in 2002 and 2007,this paper uses social network analysis method to carry on empirical research on Jiangsu province industrial network structure from the aspects of small world characteristic,network density,network centrality and cohesion *** result shows that Jiangsu industrial network presents small world characteristic,economic ties between various industries are flourishing;Primary industry's importance has on the decline,secondary industry has a significant influence on Jiangsu economy and tertiary industry has tend to rise.

China is now in urgent need to accelerate the transformation of the economic development model, promoting industrial structure upgrades in order to reduce carbon emissions. The goals are to relieve energy constraints, guarantee economic security, and reduce environmental pressures. This study calculated the industrial influence coefficients (IIC) and the industrial carbon emission coefficients (ICEC) of all industries in China in 2007. A system dynamics model was built to simulate the GDP growth and total carbon emissions in three scenarios. Scenario analyses have shown that the industrial structure adjustment based on the calculations of IIC and ICEC is better than the one based on the Chinese Industrial Restructuring Catalog. This study provides a solid research foundation for the government to adjust the industrial structure and reduce carbon emissions. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Boiler is an integral component of any process industry. The boiler efficiency probably degrades due to bad operation and lack of maintenance. So, performance analysis of the boiler has to be carried out regularly. Performance of a boiler is measured in terms of efficiency. Efficiency is one of the important parameters of a boiler, which gives information about its operating condition, heat generation from it and heat loss. Real time monitoring of efficiency helps an operator to know the boiler efficiency continuously. Real time measurement of efficiency would help in evaluating the performance of the boiler, which is necessary for taking energy conservation action in industry. This paper presents design and development of an embedded system, based on Advanced Reduced Instruction Set Computing Machine (ARM) platform to monitor the efficiency using input-output method. The developed system is tested using the technical data of a thermal power station.

Economic effects of short-term close for small airports include direct economic losses and indirect economic losses. The indirect economic losses can be calculated by the input-output method in term of the economic effect of short-term close on revelant regions and industries. The direct economic losses comes mainly from airport agencies and can be obtained in accordance with Civil Airport Charge Reform Scheme(2007). The Weihai International Airport of China is a study case chosen to estimate the economic effects of short-term close. The results demonstrate that the direct economic loss of short-term close is 93,048,915(sic) and the indirect economic loss of short-term close is more than 30,000,000(sic). Pulling effects of the airport have significant influence on energy source industry, manufacturing industry, air transportation, etc. Promoting effects of the airport have enormous effect on postal industry, air transportation, etc.

Based on a case study of Jilin province in Northeast China, this paper applied input-output analysis method to contrast different effects of wind power and thermal power generation on local economic growth. The results indicate that the driving effect of wind power on economic growth in the output of per ten thousand Yuan is lower 5205 Yuan than that of thermal power. However, taking serious environmental externalities produced by thermal power generation into account, thermal power economic value will be greatly decreased.
