Music chord progression is one of musical elements that compose music piece. The music chord progression can be created freely by a user, however, combination of music chords is innumerable to define the progression. To resolve this problem, chord progression theory and basic patterns are often used. However, with these methods, it is hard for general users to create a music progression suited for each user's feelings. In order to create the chord progression suited for the user's feelings, user's own basic music knowledge and experience are required. In our previous study, we have proposed interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) that creates music chord progression. In the IGA, genetic algorithm was used as evolutionary algorithm. In this study, through two listening experiments, we investigated the efficacy of the proposed IGA creating music chord progression. As the experiments, searching and evaluating experiments were conducted. As targets of creation of the chord progression, "bright" and "dark" chord progressions were selected as experimental conditions. In the result of the searching experiment, significant increases of fitness value were observed in both of the conditions. In the results of the evaluating experiment, in the 13th generation, large difference in impression between the conditions was observed.

The Next Release Problem consists in selecting which requirements will be implemented in the next software release. For many SBSE approaches to the NRP, there is still a lack of ability to efficiently include the human opinion and its peculiarities in the search process. Most of these difficulties are due to the problem of the human fatigue. Thus, it is proposed the use of a machine learning technique to model the user and replace him in an interactive genetic algorithm to the NRP. Intermediate results are able to show that an IGA can succesfully incorporate the user preferences in the final solution.

A novel approach to generating music is presented using two interactive genetic algorithms with electroencephalogram inputs from two subjects as their fitness functions. Many interactive genetic algorithm approaches for generating music employ constrained solution spaces that only utilise notes from a given scale. Our work incorporates the use of mutation to extend the solution space through the inclusion of accidental notes. A thresholding approach is adopted, that allows riffs to be repeated until fitness drops, together with a 'kill switch' to ensure unpleasant sounding riffs are removed from the population. The development is ongoing, with more testing and calibration required to ensure that there are no timing errors in communication between the microcontroller boards and to identify the most appropriate threshold and mutation ranges, in addition to determining the most appropriate mixes for the users to hear.

As the real estate industry expands with time, the personalized needs of users for indoor space layouts have become increasingly complex. Traditional indoor space layout design methods can no longer meet the needs of large market groups because of their complex steps and low levels of specialization. Therefore, this study first analyzes the problematic factors in indoor space layout design. Second, an interactive genetic algorithm is introduced to solve the multifactor optimal selection problem;the process is optimized and improved using a differential evolution algorithm. A comprehensive spatial layout model combining interactive genetic and differential evolution algorithms is proposed. The experimental results show that the model performs best with uniform variation, and its average number of iterations to find the optimal individual is 57. In addition, compared with similar layout models, the proposed model achieved the highest space utilization value of 79%, which is approximately 19% higher than that for the stacking layout model;it also required the shortest time, that is, 15 min. In summary, the proposed model provides a new intelligent method for indoor layout design, which is expected to improve the satisfaction of designers and users.

In order to prompt the theoretical research and application of interactive genetic algorithm (IGA), the framework for IGAOD (interactive genetic algorithm Online Design) is developed from the perspective of software reuse and the commonness and individuality of IGA. This framework encapsulates the basic commonality of IGA, integrates some classic evolution operators of IGA, and provides visual application scenarios and data analysis charts to help users quickly build their own IGA systems. In addition, the template design pattern can be used to construct the genetic algorithm library, which encapsulates the commonness of a series of selection, crossover and mutation operators into different abstract base classes. These classes inherit the identical abstract base class, making it easier for the algorithm to maintain and expand. In this article, the use of the frame is introduced with the example of 3D vase shape design and plate pattern design. Therefore, the framework is more suitable for the theoretical and application research of IGA.(c) 2022 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. A Kansei-inspired product design approach for the Liao Dynasty Pagoda: bridging cultural heritage and physiological signals

The protection and inheritance of regional cultural heritage are important for local economic development and artistic prosperity. Excellent cultural and creative products (CCPs) can better preserve and promote the unique allure of Liao Dynasty Pagoda culture. The CCP's current development process relies heavily on designers' subjective experiences, which can lead to a disconnect between CCPs and user needs. This work proposes a Kansei-inspired product design approach for the Liao Dynasty Pagoda culture by integrating multimodal physiological signals and the interactive genetic algorithm (IGA). First, multimodal physiological signalling experiments are conducted to identify cultural elements that resonate with users. Second, Kansei words are extracted from big data to understand users' emotional responses to CCPs. Factor analysis (FA) helps identify users' pivotal Kansei needs, whereas the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) determines the relative weights of these needs. Finally, the designer creates the initial morphological features on the basis of the extracted cultural elements. The interactive genetic algorithm with hesitancy-based interval individual fitness (IGA-HIIF) is then employed to construct the morphological design evolution system. This system predicts the most user-satisfying combination of design features, allowing the designer to refine, model, and render the final design.

Application of ecologically sustainable materials in urban landscape construction

As the demand for materials in urban landscapes increases, the changes in urban landscapes are becoming more and more intense. This paper studies the application of ecologically sustainable materials in urban landscape construction. Firstly, the theoretical basis of the application of ecologically sustainable materials in landscape is expounded. Then, the application of ecologically sustainable materials in urban landscape is visualised and analysed through interactive genetic algorithm, and compared with the application of disposable materials in urban landscape. The results show that the average landscape reconstruction resolution and visual reconstruction quality of the 15 sets of design drawings drawn based on ecologically sustainable materials were 93.2% and 90.5% respectively, which were higher than 87.1% and 87.1% based on disposable materials. Therefore, applying ecologically sustainable materials to urban landscape construction can not only improve aesthetics and reduce resource and financial consumption, but also promote sustainable development.

Handling qualitative aspects in Unequal Area Facility Layout Problem: An interactive genetic algorithm

The Unequal Area Facility Layout Problem (UA-FLP) has been addressed using several methods. However, the UA-FLP has only been solved for criteria that can be quantified. Our approach includes subjective features in the UA-FLP, which are difficult to take into account with a more classical heuristic optimization. In this respect, we propose an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) that allows an interaction between the algorithm and the Decision Maker (DM). Involving the DM's knowledge in the approach guides the search process, adjusting it to his/her preferences at each generation of the algorithm. In this paper, we are concerned with assisting the DM in finding a good solution according with criteria that can be: subjective, unknown at the beginning or changed during the process, so that, the problem addressed differs from a classic optimization problem. In order to avoid overloading the DM, the whole population is classified into clusters by the fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm and only one representative element of each cluster is directly evaluated by the DM. A memory of the best solutions chosen by the DM is kept as a reference. The tests carried out show that the proposed IGA is capable of capturing DM preferences. (C) 2013 Elsevier B. V. In order to understand the user's recognition of interface color matching design and effectively improve the efficiency of interface color matching. In this paper, the interactive genetic algorithm is introduced into the process of user recognition and fatigue, and the user cognitive noise model is constructed. Then the color value and evaluation value of color scheme are used to calculate the cognitive noise function. The process of interface interactive genetic color matching design is proposed. Taking the interactive interface as an example, this paper analyzes the user cognitive characteristics, and verifies that the user cognitive background is the influencing factor of the color scheme evaluation change of the interface.

interactive 3D Vase Design Based on Gradient Boosting Decision Trees

Traditionally, ceramic design began with sketches on rough paper and later evolved into using CAD software for more complex designs and simulations. With technological advancements, optimization algorithms have gradually been introduced into ceramic design to enhance design efficiency and creative diversity. The use of interactive genetic algorithms (IGAs) for ceramic design is a new approach, but an IGA requires a significant amount of user evaluation, which can result in user fatigue. To overcome this problem, this paper introduces the LightGBM algorithm and the CatBoost algorithm to improve the IGA because they have excellent predictive capabilities that can assist users in evaluations. The algorithms are also applied to a vase design platform for validation. First, bicubic B & eacute;zier surfaces are used for modeling, and the genetic encoding of the vase is designed with appropriate evolutionary operators selected. Second, user data from the online platform are collected to train and optimize the LightGBM and CatBoost algorithms. Finally, LightGBM and CatBoost are combined with an IGA and applied to the vase design platform to verify their effectiveness. Comparing the improved algorithm to traditional IGAs, KD trees, Random Forest, and XGBoost, it is found that IGAs improve with LightGBM, and CatBoost performs better overall, requiring fewer evaluations and less time. Its R2 is higher than other proxy models, achieving 0.816 and 0.839, respectively. The improved method proposed in this paper can effectively alleviate user fatigue and enhance the user experience in product design participation.
