We propose Kansei retrieval agent model with fuzzy reasoning and to verify the optimization performance of the fuzzy rules. The Kansei retrieval agent model imitates the subjective evaluation information for each user. Previous research has demonstrated the effectiveness in terms of presenting user preferences by optimizing the membership function of fuzzy reasoning using numerical simulation and learning the user's evaluation criteria. However, we did not optimize the fuzzy rules of the model. By optimizing fuzzy rules, this system can acquire user's sensibility evaluation information in language expressions. Therefore, in this study, we verify the optimization performance of the Kansei retrieval agent model when optimizing the fuzzy rules using a numerical simulation. The numerical simulation uses a pseudo user created on the computer instead of a real user. As a result, the proposed method proves to he effective from the viewpoint of user's evaluation criteria learning.

The unequal area facility layout problem (UA-FLP) has been addressed by many approaches. Most of them only consider quantitative aspects into the approach. In this work, we will solve UA-FLPs using a novel hybrid model that joins multi-criteria decision making method and interactive evolutionary optimization. Particularly, a combination of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and an interactive genetic algorithm, is suggested. By means of this new model, it is possible to take into account both qualitative (using the expert knowledge) criteria and quantitative in order to achieve an acceptable design solution. Our algorithm is able to interact with the decision maker (DM), directing the search process by means of the DM preferences and arranging the criteria that are more important in each design solution. Thus, the system is adapted to the DM's preferences by means of his/her subjective evaluations of the designs that are consider as representative of the population (reached by a clustering method), and also, to the quantitative criteria. In order to test the proposed approach, an interesting real-world data set has been probed and analysed. Important results are achieved, and relevant conclusions are drawn from the application of this novel intelligent framework.

This paper discusses the implementation and testing of a creative web element design system using an interactive genetic algorithm. Feedback in the form of voting will be used as a learning mechanism to give the system the ability to absorb quality measures in the domain of visual aesthetics. The crowdsourcing defines the learning basis for a K-NN algorithm. The K-NN machine learning is used to classify and evaluate generated designs based on feedback. This is incorporated into the fitness function of the genetic algorithm to breed the best possible design that suits the crowd. The method and the results of the implementation are described.

Structural form design could be considered as a bi-objective problem which should satisfy both the efficiency criterion of structural engineering and the aesthetic criteria of architects. This research tries to introduce interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) in the problem of structural form design. It combines the structural analysis performed by computer and aesthetic evaluation by architects into a bi-objective IGA process, in order to generate structural forms which are preferred by the architects and at the same time structurally optimal. In this research, the structure generated consists of two kinds of members, truss and beam. Generation and evolution of structure is based on a triangular element composed of several members. Through experiment of the IGA structural form design system, it is found the structure forms are optimized as the evolutionary process proceeds, and the aesthetic preference of architect is also transferred from generation to generation. It is also revealed that the two criteria have mutual restrictions, which resulted in compromised results.

This paper proposes an algorithm through which the development of computationally generated forms can be externally directed towards both functional objectives and intuitive design targets. More precisely, it presents a special version of interactive genetic algorithm, which introduces Weighted Mutation as a method to support the long life of genes corresponding to favored phenotypic characteristics. At the same time, optimization processes towards operational goals are also enabled. A set of experiments is conducted on the case study of a building facade, which appears to provide a suitable means for the investigation of functional, as well as aesthetic issues. The results are positively assessed, since they prove that this new methodology broadens the capacities of standard interactive genetic algorithms, shedding light on how a constructive human-machine relationship can benefit the design process.

The design of 3D scene should follow the rules of architecture's organization. At present, the 3D scene design are usually carried out by art designer who lack the knowledge of architecture. A method is proposed in this paper to solve the problem. We improved the interactive genetic algorithm to obtain the best adaptive features, and combined the ART1 network to simulate the behavior of users to evaluate the individuals. This method can solve the problem that manual evaluation operation may cause errors by the user's fatigue during the evaluation process, and it can increase the number of generations to obtain more information. We improved the ART1 net work based on the principle of experimental psychology to simulate the hierarchical structure of human brain's memory mode, and increased the memory capacity and compute efficiency. In this way, we can obtain the more accuracy adaptive values of 3D facade's features and improved the3D architecture facade's evolution process. This method can reduce the tedious work in art design, and effectively guide the design of 3D scene scheme. The disadvantage of this method is that it is not do enough works to deeply explore the relationship between some kinds of implicit aesthetic indexes in aesthetic personality, and lack of successful exploring in establishing a reasonable approximate model to express the implicit aesthetic characteristics. In future we should study more deeply and solve the problems above. This method is suitable for batching optimizing the 3D architecture facade, and has a positive meaning for 3D architectural design, landsape design, 3D game scene design and virtual reality.

In the area of product design, adding user's kansei (feelings) on the products is important for emphasizing its value. interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) is well known method that searches optimal or better media contents suited for each user's kansei. Some previous studies applied IEC into problem of multiple users. Purpose of the present study is to compare Distributed interactive genetic algorithm (DIGA) and interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) in a view point of creating music melody. We conducted listening experiments for investigating efficiency of the DIGA and IGA for creation of music melody. Ten persons were divided into five pairs, the pair participated in the experiment as subjects simultaneously. As an index of searching space of the pair, distance of melodies between the subjects in the pair in each generation was investigated. As a result, a trend of decrease in the distance was observed in the DIGA where exchange of the best individuals between the subjects.

This paper proposes interactive decoration design support system introducing interactive evolutionary computation. Evaluation problem existing human can be evaluated synthesizing multi objectives. The proposed system made it importance dividing the human evaluation into two part, which is including regular level of design quality and user's subjective evaluation by affective or Kansei image, and assumed to acquire good results by executing in serial order in a certain evaluation phase. From the experimental results, effectiveness of proposed methodology involving evolution by using fitness evaluation of decoration designs for quality and evolution by user evaluation are confirmed.

Customer-oriented product collaborative customization based on design iteration for tablet personal computer configuration

Customers limited knowledge and technique restrains manufacturer from making them directly participate in practical product design to quickly respond to their complex and personalized demand. Based on design iteration, an approach to customer-oriented product collaborative customization is proposed for manufacturer to improve the design process. This approach uses the existing product and continuously increasing product design scheme as valuable product configuration knowledge. Meanwhile, the concept of product family is extended to design family, where the product individual and design scheme are respectively distributed into different knowledge bases. With the benefit of iterative genetic algorithm (IGA), design iteration is applied to make the existing product and design process bi-directionally evolve in the customized process to seek the optimal design, accordingly customers' operational fatigue will be lessened and their customized efficiency will be improved. Finally, the customized design of tablet PC is taken for instance to testify the maneuverability and effectiveness of the proposed approach. The experimental results demonstrate that the approach could effectively identify customers' preference and obviously improve their customization efficiency, with lessening their operational fatigue to the large extent. VizAssist: an interactive user assistant for visual data mining

We study in this work how a user can be guided to find a relevant visualization in the context of visual data mining. We present a state of the art on the user assistance in visual and interactive methods. We propose a user assistant called VizAssist, which aims at improving the existing approaches along three directions: it uses simpler computational models of the visualizations and the visual perception guidelines, in order to facilitate the integration of new visualizations and the definition of a mapping heuristic. VizAssist allows the user to provide feedback in a visual and interactive way, with the aim of improving the data to visualization mapping. This step is performed with an interactive genetic algorithm. Finally, VizAssist aims at proposing a free on-line tool () that respects the privacy of the user data. This assistant can be viewed as a global interface between the user and some of the many visualizations that are implemented with D3js.
