Solution to Resolve Cognitive Ambiguity in interactive Customization of Product Shape

interactive genetic algorithms have been used in a wide variety of applications and extensively developed to facilitate the personalization and customization of products for users. However, the ambiguity effect or cognitive ainbiguity of users during the product customization process will affect the effects of the final customized product. Here, we first deconstructed the ambiguity effect into cognitive ambiguity during early decision-making and that during the decision-making process. A spatial map imp strategy that invoives "text-image-symbor and a clustering strategy were then pmposed to mitigate cognitive ambiguity in the two different stages, respectively Then, a specific application example "Chinese vase design was studied. Based on the proposed strategy and interactive genetic algorithm, a prototype of computer-aided design system for product modeling Was developed by MATLAB software. Then, 10 users were invited to experiment at three different cases (not using the proposed strategy, using spatial mapping strategy, using spatial mapping strategy and scheme clustering strategy). The experiment results have verified that the spatial mapping strategy was efficient to solve cognitive ambiguity during early decision-making, and clustering strategy was efficient M solve cognitive ambiguity during the decision-making process. In this paper, we propose an automatic parameter adjustment method for audio equalizers using an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA). It is very difficult for ordinary users who are not familiar with audio devices to appropriately adjust the parameters of audio equalizers. We therefore propose a system that can automatically adjust the parameters of audio equalizers on the basis of user's evaluation of the reproduced sound. The proposed system utilizes an IGA to adjust the gains and Q values of the peaking filters included in audio equalizers. Listening test results demonstrate that the proposed system can appropriately adjust the parameters on the basis of the user's evaluation.

In order to solve problems of conventional multilingual display method represented by simultaneous multilingual display and language switching display, the authors have proposed a bilingual superimposed display. The purpose of this study is therefore to propose the method and to evaluate it with an experiment by searching optimal bilingual superimposed display and comparing its reading speed with that of language switching display method. In the experiment, two tasks were conducted as follows;(1) Optimal display search task was carried out to optimize reading speed of bilingual superimposed display based on participants' subjective evaluations using interactive genetic algorithm. (2) Silent reading task was carried out to measure reading speed of sentences with monolingual display and optimized bilingual superimposed display. Then, the model of language switching display was created from the result of reading speed of monolingual display, and the expected reading time of the language switching display was compared with the reading time of bilingual superimposed display. As the comparison result, it was found that the reading speed of the bilingual superimposed display is significantly faster (p < 0.01).

Due to the continuous release of new products, manufacturers must design products constantly to meet the diversified and differentiated needs of customers. In order to avoid the displacement by market competitors, enterprises and manufacturers must study the multiple combinations of product shapes to design products for meeting user's needs. At the same time, users' consumption levels and aesthetic concepts are constantly improved, consumer demand has become more personalized and diversified, and then the development of manufacturing and information industries has made people experience material results while paying more attention to their emotional needs. As an evolutionary optimization algorithm, the individual fitness values of the interactive genetic algorithm are directly obtained from the user's own preferences and the user could give a higher fitness degree to his favorite design individual, or directly selects his satisfied individuals as the next generation of individuals in the evolutionary process. Hence, the IGA method is used to effectively design innovative productions based on users' emotional demand. However, the inaccurate judgment and identify of the user's demand for product image style will increase the complexity of the design, and resulting in increased user fatigue. To respond to the challenge, this study propose a combination method of interactive genetic algorithm and fuzzy kano model (FKM) research methods, in which FKM is used to more accurately excavate the product image style that satisfies the user's perceptual needs, thus guiding the direction of product modeling evolution, and achieving user demand-driven production evolution design. Finally, through the application of the electric bicycle case to prove the practicability and effectiveness of the method. In addition, the proposed method has increased the user satisfaction in the NPD. This method is also applicable to the styling aesthetics study for other industrial products.

This paper proposes a new platform of collaborative product design for product customization. The proposed platform of the collaborative product design process is scoped in internal enterprise level, which includes customers, designers, engineers, and technologists into a single platform. The platform can generate a design solution to the design objective. The collaborative design platform was developed in term of an interactive design on a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. In the platform, customer can input the design requirements, designer can monitor the shape generation and improve the resulting design, engineer can define the manufacturing conditions, and technologist can perform the optimization of design and process parameters. At the end of the collaborative design process, the design solution, therefore, is generated in terms of a three-dimensional (3D) model, which is directly integrated to the manufacturing process in line, until obtaining the physical product. This platform has been implemented in a jewelry product enterprise, and the result indicates that it can reduce time in design and manufacturing process approximately 66%.

As the consciousness of the global environment and sustainability has increased, low-carbon products have played a vital role in the transformation to a circular economy. Advanced smart design technology has enabled product designers to fulfill customer requirements by offering tailor-made functions and low-carbon solutions. However, although the existing approaches used in the conceptual design process can help in functional reasoning, knowledge modelling, and scheme evaluation, the smart reuse of knowledge, such as in design model improvement and concept scheme iteration for lower carbon emission, the corresponding process evaluation concerning carbon footprint has not been given sufficient attention. To resolve this, in this work, a smart knowledge deployment method is proposed for reasoning, configuring, and optimizing the conceptual scheme (CS) based on carbon emission evaluation and interaction. First, to match discretized knowledge, sub-function requirements after function decomposition are mapped with granular clustered knowledge into a matrix based on a requirement function knowledge deployment (RFKD) model. Second, the derived candidate concept schemes (CCSs) are selected in three steps: conflict-based primaries, configuration, and carbon footprint ranking. Finally, the initial conceptual scheme (ICS) with the lowest carbon emission is used as input for the interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to better capture a comprehensive set of user feedback on potential candidate schemes through interactions. Accordingly, improvements are completed as intended. The prototype design and an experimental study of a brand-new friction-wear testing machine are conducted. The results suggest that the proposed approach could effectively reduce the carbon emissions of products obtained through CS and improve the convergence of the schemes produced via genetic operation.

In this paper, we propose an office layout support system for polygonal space using interactive genetic algorithm. The proposed system has two phases;(1) generation of room arrangement plans and (2) generation of layout plans for workspace. In the proposed system, office layout plans can be generated not only in square space but also in polygonal space. In this system, some conditions on rooms and furniture are given by a user, some room arrangement plans which satisfy the conditions are generated by interactive genetic algorithm. After one of the generated room arrangement plans is selected by a user, and then some layout plans for workspace which satisfy the conditions are generated by interactive genetic algorithm. We carried out a series of computer experiments and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed system.

This contribution presents an approach to consider subjective features of the designer (Decision Maker: DM) using an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) in Unequal Area Facility Layout Problem (UA-FLP) applied to recycling plants design. The DM guides the evolutionary process adjusting it to his/her preferences at every iteration of the algorithm. In order to avoid the DM fatigue he/she evaluates only the most representative individuals of the population chosen by means of a soft computing clustering method. The empirical evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm is capable to capture the DM preferences and to reach good solutions in a reasonable number of iterations.

These days, consumers can make their choice from a wide variety of clothes provided in the market;however, some prefer to have their clothes custom-made. Since most of these consumers are not professional designers, they contact a designer to help them with the process. This approach, however, is not efficient in terms of time and cost and it does not reflect the consumer's personal taste as much as desired. This study proposes a design system using interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to overcome these problems. IGA differs from traditional genetic algorithm (GA) by leaving the fitness function to the personal preference of the user. The proposed system uses user's taste as a fitness value to create a large number of design options, and it is based on an encoding scheme either describing a dress as a whole or as a two-part piece of clothing. The system is designed in the Rhinoceros 3D software, using python, which provides good speed and interface options. The assessment experiments with several subjects indicated that the proposed system is effective.

interactive genetic algorithm with fitness modeling for the development of a color simulation system based on customer's preference

Customers preferences are difficult to predict automatically because they are subjective and relative to human likeness patterns which are different from each people. This paper proposes the combination of interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) with Artificial Neural Networks to model the fitness function and find the optimally colored image according to user's preference. As the search space for the IGA is very large, proposed system reduces it creating genotypes with colors restrictions developed with a new graph coloring technique. Two functions are proposed for coding color restrictions. The system presented in this study takes the case of the color design of a building for illustration purposes. Experimental results show that 80% reduction in the number of users evaluations is achieved with proposed combination and speedup in IGA evolution is achieved when color restrictions are coded by proposed mutation and crossover operators.
