Novel interleaved code for High-Throughput Parallel DNA-Based Molecular Communications

DNA-based molecular communication (DNA-MC) is a biological communication mechanism that uses DNA strands as information carriers. The longevity, stability, high information density, massive parallelism, and biological compatibility of DNA offer a dramatic potential for DNA-based storage, computing, and communication. This letter extends our previous work, which used the directional and controllable molecular hopper along the track to replace the slow and random diffusion mechanisms. This letter proposes a multiple-track-hopper parallel communication mechanism to achieve high throughput by parallel transmission and sequencing. We recommend utilizing interleaved coding to mitigate the bit error rate (BER) caused by the back-stepping motion, resulting in successive symmetric errors. Additionally, we have explored the proper interleaving depth necessary to preserve the diminished DNA information density that results from the redundancy for error correction. Simulations show that interleaved coding efficiently reduces BER in parallel DNA-MC while requiring less redundancy. This letter demonstrates the feasibility and potential of high-throughput and low-error DNA-MC, which could enable novel interdisciplinary advances between DNA communication, nanotechnology, and synthetic biology.

The XCP(eXpendable Current Profiler, XCP) is a one-time use of the current profiler observation instruments which is cheap, fast access to the parameters of the water velocity profile. The signal processing is an important part of the research of XCP. The paper discusses the coding study in the signal processing technology, analysises the interference and noise of the transmission line, uses the interleaved code method for reducing errors to improve the reliability of the communication, and simulates the interleaving encoding and decoding system by the Systemview tool, demonstrates the reliability and feasibility of data transmission by using interleaved coded.

Postprocessing using a single-parity interleaved block code for a Viterbi detector

A postprocessing approach is proposed which uses a single-parity, interleaved block code for correcting the errors made by a Viterbi detector. The code proposed here was simulated for an EPR4 channel with two sets of interleave depth D and code word length N with rates 39/40 and 19/20. Simulation showed a realized coding gain of 1.33 dB at a BER = 10(-5) and 1.59 dB at a BER = 10(-6) for the code with 39/40 rate. The corresponding numbers for the code with 19/20 rate are 1.54 dB and 1.76 dB.

Performance evaluation of error-forecasting decoding for interleaved codes on Gilbert channels

interleaved codes are constructed from error correcting codes with short code length (component code) as the basic elements and are known to be an effective means for handling burst error. The decoding method for the interleaved codes is usually one in which decoding is carried out independently for the component codes. However, if the error correlation is taken into account, it is clear that error-forecasting decoding can improve the characteristics because the error location of the adjacent component code is considered as a lost location to provide lost error decoding. In this article, the error rate characteristics (the probability of not carrying out the correct decoding for the component codes and the interleaved codes) in a Gilbert channel are theoretically derived for a system in which error-forecasting decoding is used for the interleaved codes. In the analysis, several related Markov chains are derived step by step from a two-state Markov chain for the Gilbert channel, and the generating functions for the probability corresponding to the number of errors and the success in decoding of the component codes are derived. It is shown that the error rate (word error rate) for the component codes and the error rate (frame error rate) for the interleaved codes can be evaluated from the identical generating function. Modified enhanced max-log-maximum a posteriori algorithm using variable scaling factor

Using a variable scaling factor (VSF), a modified enhanced max-log-maximum a posteriori (EMLMAP) algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of the conventional EMLMAP algorithm which uses a fixed SF. The VSF, maximising the mutual information exchanged between component decoders in a turbo decoder, is adaptively varied with a priori information of each component decoder. For a large size of interleaver, it is shown that the proposed algorithm improves the bit error rate performance and speed of decoding convergence of the conventional EMLMAP algorithm. The improved speed of the decoding convergence reduces the average number of iterations and results in low-power implementations of a turbo decoder.

Short-Frame Fountain code for Plasma Sheath With "Communication Windows"

The surface of a hypersonic vehicle traveling at a speed exceeding Mach 10 is covered by a plasma sheath. The plasma sheath is a complex dynamic random medium that seriously attenuates electromagnetic (EM) waves and generates the so-called blackout phenomenon. However, owing to changes in vehicle flight parameters, such as the angle of attack, speed, and altitude, or the effects of plasma weakening control measures, the attenuation effect of the plasma sheath on EM waves weakens for a short time. At times, the amplitude of the EM waves is higher than the communication threshold, and the EM waves penetrate the plasma sheath in a so-called "communication window". However, the random temporal variance of the plasma sheath parameters causes the required parameters of the "communication windows" to appear randomly, resulting in the traditional communication methods that needs to keep the communication link open for a long time being no longer applicable. To maximize the use of these "communication windows", this paper proposes a short-frame fountain code (SFFC), constructs a time-varying plasma sheath channel model, and studies the relationship between the SFFC parameters and the transmission performance of this particular channel. Simulation and experimental results show that the use of SFFC improves the reliability of communication through the plasma sheath. The uninterrupted and correct transmission of information can be achieved even when the plasma equivalent frequency is close to the carrier frequency.

Coding techniques for link adaptation in multicarrier systems

A novel technique for improving coding and diversity gains in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is proposed. Multidimensional symbol design based on complex field codes with interleaving across frequency has been known for some time now. However, such symbols cannot be concatenated to convolutional codes owing to the prohibitive complexity of decoding. A novel way of designing multidimensional symbols that allow to concatenate them to convolutional codes while maintaining a low decoding complexity is shown. The proposed multidimensional symbols are based on tailbiting convolutional codes and the design of codes is discussed with desirable properties. Also the design of bit interleaved coded modulation-type and trellis-coded modulation-type codes over these multidimensional symbols is shown. Simulations show that the proposed coding scheme provides significant performance and/or complexity improvements over existing alternatives and also provides more degrees of freedom for channel-based link adaptation.

code-Division Space-Time Fountain code for Plasma Sheath Communication

Influenced by the special physical characteristics of the plasma sheath and the parameters of the aircraft's attitude, the channel containing the plasma sheath can be regarded as a special kind of discontinuous channel. A code-division space-time fountain code form is proposed that is suitable for the spatial characteristics of the plasma sheath channel. Simulation results show that the use of code-division space-time fountain code maximizes the use of the airspace resources in the plasma sheath channel. The scheme proposed in this paper can be used to alleviate the "ionization blackout" problem faced by hypersonic vehicles in the reentry process.

Soft-Decoding Algorithm for Fountain code in Plasma Sheath

Plasma sheath can interfere with normal communication between aircraft and ground control station, and the large transmission delay and high information error rate it introduces make traditional feedback retransmission transmission systems ineffective. The use of forward error correction codes such as fountain codes can effectively solve the problem of unidirectional transmission. However, the harsh transmission environment of the plasma sheath channel can cause errors in some information bits of the fountain code encoding packets. Traditional hard decision decoding methods will discard these encoding packets, which greatly wastes valuable channel resources. This article proposes a fountain code soft decoding method suitable for plasma sheath channels, aiming to fully use the available information in the encoding packets. The simulation results show that this method can improve the transmission efficiency of the entire plasma sheath channel.
