The development of the Internet of Things (IoT) witnesses a growing number of intelligent services. Nevertheless, the IoT devices can suffer from limited energy supply and computing ability. Reminiscent of the concept of multi-access edge computing and ubiquitous computing, IoT devices can share the network resources and cooperate to offer intelligent services. Nevertheless, state-of-the-art models for resource optimization cannot fully characterize the requirement of services. Therefore, we propose a novel generalized service-centric model for resource allocation optimization in the presence of cooperative service offering. Based on the model, a joint network resource allocation and device scheduling optimization is investigated. This problem is shown to be a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) problem. To solve the problem, alternating optimization is integrated with the Hungarian method, where the device scheduling optimization suffers from the cubic complexity. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed service-centric optimization model can significantly reduce the overall energy consumption, as well as the slope of average energy consumption in the presence of an increasing number of tasks.

An iterative method for general variational inclusion with application

Herein, we set up a novel iterative technique termed as the R-iterative algorithm. We show that the newly constructed scheme is more efficient than some existing iterative algorithms. Further, a general variational inclusion problem is approximated by utilizing our algorithm and the theoretical claims are exemplified. As an application, we utilize our newly developed scheme to examine a delay differential equation.

On inverse problem with phase retrieval for an inclined plane in the parabolic approximation

The inverse problem of amplitude reconstruction on an inclined plane based on the values of amplitude or its module as recorded on semi-infinite plane orthogonal to the beam propagation direction is considered within the framework of 2D parabolic equation. It is demonstrated that this inverse problem, in case when the complex image plane amplitude is known, can be reduced to a singular Cauchy-type integral equation. The existence of its solutions requires that certain conditions be met but if a solution exists it is necessary unique. The obtained integral equation is then approximated piece-wisely and the resulting linear algebraic system is solved numerically while applying necessary regularization procedures to enhance the stability of its solutions. Finally, an iterative method of phase retrieval is developed and a set of numerical experiments is performed.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Empowered Symbiotic Radio Over Broadcasting Signals

Symbiotic radio (SR) is a promising technology for energy- and spectrum-efficient wireless communication, which exploits passive communication for Internet-of-Things (IoT) transmission and achieves a mutualistic spectrum sharing between the passive and active transmissions. In this paper, we study an reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) empowered symbiotic radio over a broadcasting system, i.e., a base station (BS) broadcasts signals to multiple primary receivers (PRs) under the assistance of an RIS, while the RIS also transmits information to an IoT receiver (IR) by riding over the broadcasting signals. We formulate a problem to minimize the BS's transmit power by jointly optimizing the BS's active precoding and the RIS's passive beamforming, under the signal-to-noise-ratio constraints of the primary and IoT transmissions. However, the problem is challenging to be solved optimally, since the variables are coupled and the constraints are non-convex. An iterative algorithm based on block coordinated descent (BCD) and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) techniques is first proposed, and its convergence together with complexity are analyzed. Then, to tackle the problem of high computational complexity caused by SDR technique, we further propose an alternative algorithm based on generalized power method (GPM) technique. Simulation results validate that the proposed system outperforms the traditional broadcasting system without RIS. The GPM-based algorithm achieves nearly the same transmit power performance as SDR-based algorithm, with a significantly reduced computational complexity.

Nonlinear model for the dynamic analysis of a time-dependent vehicle-cableway bridge system

A flexible cableway bridge under moving vehicles is a typical time-dependent dynamic system with geometric nonlinearity. The particularities of this system are different from those of traditional nonlinear structures. An analytical model of time-dependent vehicle -cableway bridge systems has not been systematically established because the coupling effects of geometric nonlinearity are not involved. In this regard, a nonlinear model for the dynamic analysis of vehicle-cableway bridge systems is proposed in this work. The nonlinear equations of motion in incremental forms are established using an updated Lagrangian expression and the virtual work principle by regarding cableway bridges and vehicles as a whole dynamic system. A new iterative algorithm is developed for the response solution based on the implicit Wilson-theta method associated with the Newton-Raphson iterative technique. A general computational procedure for dynamic analyses of vehicle-cableway bridge systems is proposed. Three typical bridges, including a real cableway bridge in China, are taken used as examples to verify the validity of the proposed method. Detailed parametric studies are also conducted to demonstrate the effects of geometric nonlinearity and the efficiency of the iterative algorithm and investigate the resonance property of vehicle-cableway bridge systems. The made observations indicate that the proposed method can perform an efficient nonlinear dynamic analysis of a vehicle-cableway bridge system. (c) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Capped L2,p-norm metric based robust least squares twin support vector machine for pattern classification

Least squares twin support vector machine (LSTSVM) is an effective and efficient learning algorithm for pattern classification. However, the distance in LSTSVM is measured by squared L-2-norm metric that may magnify the influence of outliers. In this paper, a novel robust least squares twin support vector machine framework is proposed for binary classification, termed as CL2,p-LSTSVM, which utilizes capped L-2,L-p-norm distance metric to reduce the influence of noise and outliers. The goal of CL2,p-LSTSVM is to minimize the capped L-2,L-p-norm intra-class distance dispersion, and eliminate the influence of outliers during training process, where the value of the metric is controlled by the capped parameter, which can ensure better robustness. The proposed metric includes and extends the traditional metrics by setting appropriate values of p and capped parameter. This strategy not only retains the advantages of LSTSVM, but also improves the robustness in solving a binary classification problem with outliers. However, the nonconvexity of metric makes it difficult to optimize. We design an effective iterative algorithm to solve the CL2,p-LSTSVM. In each iteration, two systems of linear equations are solved. Simultaneously, we present some insightful analyses on the computational complexity and convergence of algorithm. Moreover, we extend the CL2,p-LSTSVM to nonlinear classifier and semi-supervised classification. Experiments are conducted on artificial datasets, UCI benchmark datasets, and image datasets to evaluate our method. Under different noise settings and different evaluation criteria, the experiment results show that the CL2,p -LSTSVM has better robustness than state-of-the-art approaches in most cases, which demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Sound Transmission Loss of a Two-Layered Pyramidal Structure Lined with Porous Material

This paper presents a theoretical model based on Biot theory to investigate the sound transmission loss (STL) of a pyramidal lattice sandwich structure lined with porous material. This theory is more accurate than equivalent methods and suitable for use in different complex filling configurations. Several filling patterns with different boundary conditions are studied, and their governing equations are derived by presenting the exact displacements and stresses for both solid and fluid fields. The models are validated by comparing with available literature and simulation results. The numerical results show the influences of porous materials, their structure on the STL, and their mutual inhibitions. In addition, it is found that different parameters dominate in different configurations and frequency ranges. These results reveal the interrestricted relationship between the STL and its bearing capacity. Moreover, the external mean flow condition inspired by real-life situations is studied to analyze its effects on sound transmission. These results show that the STL depends on the flow directions, and a critical value of the Mach number exists in the upstream situation.

Dictionary-based inverse filtering methods for blind image deconvolution

In this paper, we study a novel inverse filtering method by using a dictionary approach. The main idea is to combine a learned dictionary for the representation of the deconvo-luted image and an inverse filter based on nonnegativity and support constraints, to de-convolute the observed image with an unknown point spread function. The advantage of this approach is that the target image can be represented with more details by learned basis in the dictionary. We also employ the alternating direction method of multipliers to solve the resulting optimization problem. Experimental results are presented to show that the performance of the proposed methods are better than other testing methods for several testing images. (c) 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Outage Performance Optimization for Two-Way-Relay-Aided Cooperative NOMA with SWIPT

With the rapid evolution of wireless communication, Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) becomes an ideal technology to accommodate the increasing number of devices over limited spectrum. In order to make the wireless networks sustainable, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has been imported into NOMA network. In this paper, in order to further improve the spectrum efficiency in the infrastructure based NOMA network over Rayleigh fading channels, a SWIPT-enabled two-way relay (TWR) is introduced. A three-phase data exchange scheme based on hybrid relaying protocol combining power splitting (PS) with time splitting (TS) protocol (HPTSR) is proposed. Then, we derive the closed expressions of outage probability for the near user and the far user. Further, an optimization problem for a lower system outage probability under the constraints of power allocation factor and time allocation factor is proposed. Moreover, an iterative algorithm is designed. Finally, through numerical simulation, our simulation results outperform baseline benchmarks.

Solving Monge-Ampere equation in 2D and 3D by Generalized Finite Difference Method

In this paper we derive the discretization of the nonlinear Monge-Ampere equation by means of the explicit formulae of the meshless Generalized Finite Difference Method (GFDM) in both two and three dimensional settings (2D and 3D). To do so we implement the Cascadic iterative algorithm. We provide a rigorous proof of the consistency of the GFDM for this elliptic equation and present several examples in 2D and 3D, where the method shows its potential and accuracy. We provide a discussion on the number of total nodes in the domain and the number of local supporting nodes. Also, we give an example with physical meaning where we find a surface whose Gaussian curvature is given.
