Previously we have presented a method for selective image sharpness enhancement. Our method is based on the simultaneous nonlinear reaction-diffusion time-evolution equipped with a nonlinear diffusion term, a reaction term and an isotropic peaking term, and it can sharpen only degraded edges blurred by several causes without increasing the visibility of nuisance factors such as random noise. This paper applies our simultaneous nonlinear reaction-diffusion method to removal of image blurs due to image-motion. The motion blur is not only shift-variant but also anisotropic. To adapt our simultaneous nonlinear reaction-diffusion method for motion de-blurring, we replace the isotropic Laplacian operator, included in the isotropic peaking term of our prototypal method, with the anisotropic operator considering the direction of the estimated image motion. Preliminarily experiments using artificially generated test images show that our method achieves excellent motion de-blurring.

In this paper, we consider an interference multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay system where multiple source nodes communicate with their desired destination nodes with the aid of distributed relay nodes. An iterative algorithm is developed to minimize the total source and relay transmit power such that a minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) threshold is maintained at each receiver. The proposed algorithm exploits the network beamforming technique at the relay nodes and the receive beamforming technique at the destination nodes to mitigate the interferences from the unintended sources in conjunction with transmit power control. In particular, we apply the semidefinite relaxation technique to transform the relay transmission power minimization problem into a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem which can be efficiently solved by interior point-based methods. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed iterative algorithm.

This paper presents a new semi-empirical model for predicting the far-field acoustic propagation for a ducted rotor. The model is based principally on the work of Stephens & Morris (Journal of Sound and Vibration, 313 (2008) 97-112) and Tomko et al. (Journal of Sound and Vibration 45 (2019) 84-98): the former uses experimental far-field acoustic data as an input to estimate the dipole source spectra from the rotor, and the latter calculates the pressure inside the duct using the estimated source spectra. The pressure at the duct exit is then propagated to the far-field using a Green's function formulation. The results from the model are first compared to the literature and show good agreement in recovering the dipole spectra. However, the transfer function between the source and the far-field pressure is not consistent due to the difference of configuration between the two experiments. When comparing the model output to the measured spectra, a good agreement is found especially at high rotating speeds where the signal-to-noise ratio is more important.

Based on a 979-actuator adaptive optics system, this paper analyzes the different performance of iterative wavefront reconstruction algorithms. Under the condition of dynamic wavefront errors, the iteration number, storage space and the number of multiplication of steepest descent method, conjugate gradient method and G-S iterative method are studied. The steepest descent method and conjugate gradient method need smaller storage space. Both the G-S iterative method and the conjugate gradient method converge faster than steepest descent method, while the latter takes the least number of multiplication. Finally, the optimal iterative algorithm is selected considering storage space, iteration numbers and the number of multiplication.

Recently, deep neural networks (DNNs) have shown advantages in accelerating optimization algorithms. One approach is to unfold finite number of iterations of conventional optimization algorithms and to learn parameters in the algorithms. However, these are forward methods and are indeed neither iterative nor convergent. Here, we present a novel DNN-based convergent iterative algorithm that accelerates conventional optimization algorithms. We train a DNN to yield parameters in scaled gradient projection method. So far, these parameters have been chosen heuristically, but have shown to be crucial for good empirical performance. In simulation results, the proposed method significantly improves the empirical convergence rate over conventional optimization methods for various large-scale inverse problems in image processing.

In this paper, we consider decode-and-forward (DF) buffer-aided relay selection and transmission power allocation for underlay cognitive radio (CR) network that is equipped with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna scheme. We propose a low complexity MIMO-based relay selection scheme that maximizes the single-hop normalized rate of the secondary network (SN). Also, we propose a sub-optimal antenna transmission power allocation scheme that maximizes the overall normalized sum rate of the primary network (PN) and the SN. We first derive optimal expressions for antenna transmission power of both the PN and the SN. The derived expressions are then used in an iterative algorithm to produce a near-optimum solution that maximizes the normalized sum rat per time slot. Simulation results are provided to evaluate the performance of the proposed MIMO-based relay selection and antenna transmission power allocation schemes and compare their performance with that of the optimal scenario. Impact of several system parameters including buffer maximum size, interference threshold and number of antennas on network performance are also investigated. Results reveal that the proposed sub-optimal relay selection and antenna transmission power allocation schemes introduce a satisfactory performance with much lower complexity compared to optimal relay selection and power allocation schemes. Findings also show that using buffer-aided relays significantly enhances the SN performance while slightly weakens the performance of the PN.

We previously presented a method of selective image sharpening based on a coupled nonlinear diffusion process that was composed of a nonlinear diffusion term, a fidelity term and an isotropic peaking term. It could sharpen only blurred edges without increasing noise visibility. This paper extends our method to the removal of blurs in images due to image motion. Motion blur is not only shift-variant but also anisotropic. To adapt our method to motion de-blurring, we replaced our isotropic peaking term, with an anisotropic peaking term steered in direction of motion at each pixel. We then devised discrete calculus to adapt it to the direction of motion. Through experiments with a test sequence of moving images containing artificial motion-blurs, we quantitatively evaluated sharpening performance. Our new method with the anisotropic peaking term performed better than our prototypal method with the isotropic peaking term, and was robust against errors in the direction of motion.

Direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation is an essential technique in wireless communication, which is widely used for many applications. With the ever-increasing demand of the applications for real-time DoA estimation, phase interferometerbased methods are popular because of their extremely low computational complexity. In this paper, a phase interferometer with an iterative mechanism is proposed for two-dimensional (2D) DoA estimation with a uniform circular array. The phase differences of the selected antenna baselines are the inputs of the proposed method, which are calculated from the received signal. In the proposed method, the 2D DoA is solved by the iterative weighted least squares method based on the relations between the DoA and the phase differences, where the weights are assigned to different baselines and are designed with reference to the noise resistance capability of the corresponding phase differences. Additionally, the weights are updated with iterations. The simulation results indicate that when compared with the benchmarks, the DoA estimation with the proposed method enjoys superior estimation performance without compromising computational complexity.

The acquisition of phase information of light field is the key technology of adaptive optics. Using intensity of the light field to derive the phase distribution of the light field has become a common application technique for phase recovery. Research shows that iterative algorithm is an effective method for phase recovery of light field, but some iterative algorithms have the disadvantages of being sensitive to initial values, easy to fall into local extremum and slow convergence. Here we mainly focus on two iterative optimization algorithms for wavefront distortion correction without wavefront sensing adaptive optics. The first is the Gerchberg-Saxton (GS) algorithm, which combines two complex amplitude distributions on the plane of the optical propagation perpendicular to the optical axis and recovers the phase from the intensity distribution. The second is a genetic algorithm that achieves an optimal solution for the evaluation function through a series of crossover, mutation, and selection operations. In order to improve its convergence rate, we take Zernike polynomial coefficient required for wavefront reconstruction as the optimization object instead of voltages on corrector traditionally. We numerically simulate the performance of two algorithms, use Zernike polynomial to fit the static aberration, and study a series of parameters, especially single-order aberrations and random multi-order aberrations as the initial phase to the correction performance, and the correction performance of the two algorithms is respectively evaluated using two evaluation functions, Sum-Square Error (SSE) and Strehl Ratio (SR). Time consumption is also mentioned to evaluate the performance of two algorithms.

The speckle noise is a serious problem in the reconstructed images from kinoforms. A random phase added to the desired image can reduce the dynamic range of its Fourier spectrum, but this involves the speckle noise. In general, isolated first-order zeros in band-limited complex amplitudes are always surrounded by phase change from -pi to pi. These isolated zeros may cause the speckle noise in kinoform reconstruction. The isolated zeros are lead from a 2pi circle of the reconstructed image phase differences. We suggest a new iterative algorithm to optimize the desired image phases in order to reduce the isolated zeros. Experimental results showed that our new iterative algorithm is effective for the speckle reduction of kinoform reconstruction.
