Multiwavelength elastic lidar is often used to probe the aerosol profiles of the atmosphere. Normally, the atmosphere is considered homogeneous and an a-priori aerosol ratio is given for each wavelength channel which is then processed independently. However, it is clear that the multiwavelength retrieved backscatter profiles should contain information that can be used to estimate particle size distribution which may provide a new estimate to range dependant aerosol ratio profiles which can be repeated until convergence. In this paper, we illustrate the basic idea of using multiwavelength data using a two wavelength lidar to obtain local information on the lidar ratio which can be used to improve lidar profiling in inhomogeneous atmospheres and show that a key feature of any scheme is the monotonic dependance between the optical data ratio and the distribution parameter. In addition, we extend the approach to a prototypical Nd:YAG three wavelength (355, 532 1064mn) lidar arrangement and show that while an iterative lidar procedure can be used to extract range dependant profiles, imprecision in the inversion procedure as well as error propagation of the lidar back integration can hamper convergence.

In this paper, we focus on a rank constrained optimization problem with general Schur-convex/concave objective function and multiple trace/log-determinant constraints. We first derive a structural result on the optimal solution of the rank constrained problem without relaxation using majorization theory. Based on the solution structure, we transform the rank constrained problem into an equivalent problem with a unitary constraint. After that, we derive an iterative projected steepest descent algorithm which converges to a local optimal solution. Furthermore, we shall show that under some special cases, we could even derive closed form global optimal solution. The numerical results show the superior performance of the our proposed technique over the baseline schemes, the rank relaxation based randomization technique.

CCD calibration is carried out for wheel set wear online measurement. Calibration precision influences the accuracy of wheel set measurement. A CCD calibration method is designed based on perspective projection of pinhole camera and iterative algorithm. Space angles and object distance of CCD parameters are obtained by CCD calibration. Transformation relation between physical coordinates and pixel coordinates is determined by these two CCD parameters. Experimental results showed that space angle achieved a error of 0.1 degrees and object distance achieved a error of 2 mm. The calibration method meet accuracy demands of wheel set wear measurement.

Due to the ever increasing requirements of modern aircraft, the subject of control allocation continues to rise in importance. Modern aircraft control methodology requires control allocation algorithms that yield optimal (weighted) control solutions over the entire available envelope, readily accommodate changes in the number of available control effectors and do so in a numerically robust and computationally efficient manner that yields real-time solutions. Additionally, algorithms are being expanded to support dynamic control allocation topics such as linear stability analysis, control effector dynamics, enhance safety, prevent structural overload and address nonlinear control allocation challenges. Prior research has shown that weighted Pseudo-Inverse methods have been used successfully to address these requirements including nonlinear allocation (e.g., affine control effectiveness matrix). The Prediction Method was introduced as a weighted Pseudo-Inverse equivalent algorithm that typically provides optimal control allocation solutions within the envelope in a numerically robust manner. The research of this paper proposes computational efficiency enhancements to the core Prediction Method algorithm and the follow-on Sequential Null Space Generalized Inverse algorithm. These enhancements make use of partitioned matrices which substantially lowers the computational burden of matrix inversion and with the Scalar Difference Quadratic evaluation used for effector unsaturation detection. Numerical examples are presented and provide a computational efficiency comparison against the Cascading Generalized Inverse algorithm.

Engine control system is currently changing from centralized approach to distributed approach, using digital bus communications instead of point-to-point analog communications. Distributed sensors and actuators in the system will introduce network induced multiple delays and data packet dropout. However, much of research is concerned about the stability of the system lacking the focus on the performance of the system. In this paper, a design method of guaranteed cost controller is proposed for the problem of multi-packet transmission delay and packet dropout in the distributed engine control system. First, a system model of distributed control system with multiple delay and packet dropout is established. Then, a guaranteed cost controller design theorem in the form of bilinear matrix inequalities is given base on Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem, and solved by a cone-compensation linearization (CCL) method. Finally, simulation verification is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the guaranteed cost controller designed. According to the method, the cost bound is calculated and the corresponding controller can ensure system's dynamic performance under different multi-delay and packet losses.

Conventional automatic parameter choosing involves testing many parameter values, increasing computing time for iterative image reconstructions. The proposed approach first measures the image quality after each iteration and then predicts the convergence trend corresponding to each value of the parameter. Values unlikely to achieve the best quality upon convergence are trimmed from successive iterations to save time. Experimental results show that our parameter trimming method could reduce the running time of total variation parameter selection solved by Split Bregman iteration by more than 50% when the numbers of iterations and parameter candidates are large.

The paper is committed in local image enhancement. At first, the authors propose an adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle. Adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle is the basement of local enhancement method which ensures that there is no distortion in processed image. And then, the authors propose an iterative algorithm, which could stretch gray-scale difference of adjacent pixels in premise of not changing gray magnitude relationship between adjacent pixels. At last, the authors propose a totally reference image quality assessment method based on adjacent pixel gray order-preserving principle. According to this quality assessment method, the authors made a set of comparative experiments with local histogram equalization and method. Experimental results show that the proposed enhancement method can get higher score and provide better visual effects, fully demonstrating its effectiveness. According to this quality assessment method, the proposed method shows a good effectiveness, through experimental results and comparison with local histogram equalization method.

Collaborative filtering (CF) is one of the most successful techniques in recommender systems. By utilizing co-rated items of pairwise users for similarity measurements, traditional CF uses a weighted summation to predict unknown ratings based on the available ones. However, in practice, the rating matrix is too sparse to find sufficiently many co-rated items, thus leading to inaccurate predictions. To address the case of sparse data, we propose an iterative CF that updates the similarity and rating matrix. The improved CF incrementally selects reliable subsets of missing ratings based on an adaptive parameter and therefore produces a more credible prediction based on similarity. Experimental results on the MovieLens dataset show that our algorithm significantly outperforms traditional CF, Default Voting, and SVD when the data is 1% sparse. The results also show that in the dense data case our algorithm performs as well as state of art methods.

In this paper, a joint transmitter and receiver beamformers design algorithm for downlink multiple input multiple output multicarrier code-division multiple access (MIMO MC-CDMA) system is proposed. The algorithm is iterative in nature where the transmitter beamformers and the receiver beamformers are determined alternately. The transmitter beamforming problem with a given receiver beamformer is formulated as a convex programming problem, which can be solved optimally using second order cone programming (SOCP), while the receiver beamforming problem is formulated as a constrained optimization problem with an analytical solution. The convergence of the algorithm is analyzed and the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by computing simulation.
