In the application of Support Vector Machines (SVM), if the data points are not linearly separable in the original space, it is desirable to find a mapping function to map the data into the high-dimensional space, and then classify it. However, the mapped target space is often very high-dimensional or even infinite-dimensional, so it is necessary to find a function instead of the operation of finding the inner product of the vector in the high-dimensional space. Thus, this function is named as kernel function. The selection of the kernel function is required to satisfy Mercer's theorem, that is, the arbitrary Gram matrix of the kernel function in the sample space is a semi-positive definite matrix. Furthermore, kernel method is also an approach to achieve efficient calculation. It can make use of kernel function to carry out synchronous computation of nonlinear mapping in linear learning machine, so that the computational complexity is independent of the dimension of the high-dimensional feature space. Kernel function subtly solves the above problem. In high-dimension, the inner product of the vector can he calculated by the kernel function of the low-dimensional point. This technique is called kernel trick. The advantage of kernel trick is that it does not need to explicitly define the feature space and mapping function, but only need to select a suitable kernel function. In this paper, we first introduce the basic definitions of kernel function and RKHS. On this basis, the least squares learning problem of Gaussian kernel is studied. Finally, the influence of the selection of Gaussian kernel function parameters on the learning algorithm is verified by computer simulation.

In this study, we investigate the relative ability of a Box-Jenkins algorithm to retrieve sea surface salinity (SSS) from MODIS satellite data. The accuracy of this work has been examined using the root mean square of bias of sea surface salinity retrieved from MODIS satellite data. The study shows comprehensive relationship between Box-Jenkins algorithm, least square method, and in situ SSS measurements with high r(2) of 0.98, 0.96 and RMS of bias value of +/- 0.34 psu, and +/- 0.32 psu, respectively. Thus, lower RMS of bias value of +/- 0.32 psu has performed with Box-Jenkins algorithm. In conclusions, Box-Jenkins algorithm can be used to retrieve time series of SSS from MODIS satellite data as compared to least square algorithm.

Nonlinear models have recently shown interesting properties for spectral unmixing. This paper considers a generalized bilinear model recently introduced for unmixing hyperspectral images. Different algorithms are studied to estimate the parameters of this bilinear model. The positivity and sum-to-one constraints for the abundances are ensured by the proposed algorithms. The performance of the resulting unmixing strategy is evaluated via simulations conducted on synthetic and real data.

Accurate parameter estimations are essential for efficient operation and high performance of interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). A differential model is proposed to estimate three-phase IPMSM parameters, including permanent magnet (PM) flux linkage, winding resistance, and machine inductances. A three-phase IPMSM model considering voltage source inverter (VSI) nonlinearity and magnetic saturation is investigated, then the model is decoupled based on the proposed differential approach to reduce cross affection and observational error. With multi-state measurements, each parameter is estimated separately with high efficiency and *** square (LS) algorithm is employed to improve the computational efficiency. The proposed approach is especially suitable for identifying parameters over an extensive speed range under various load conditions without requirement for any signal injection.

Multilevel inverter drivers have become widely applied in high-voltage and high-power applications. Therefore fault diagnosis of voltage source inverters is becoming more and more important. One possible fault within the inverter is IGBT open circuit fault. An overview of the different strategies to detect this fault is given, including the algorithms to localize the fault switch device. This paper presents a technique to improve the fault detection by using an algorithm of neural network with orthogonal basis functions based on recursion least square (RLS) technique. The method is used to identify the type and location of occurring faults from inverter output voltage measurement. Simulation examples of fault diagnosis by the use of the presented method were given. Simulation results have shown that the method performs satisfactorily to detect the fault type fault location and reconfiguration, so it will be very valuable in power system.

To improve the control precision of robotic manipulator, fuzzy support vector machines control method for robotic manipulator was presented based on genetic algorithm and least square algorithm. Fuzzy algorithm was used to decouple joints. Using support vector machines, fuzzy logical control of complete process and treatment of non-linear signal were realized. The parameters of controller were optimized by hybrid learning algorithm. First, least square algorithm was used for off-line optimization to form support vector machines control system. Then, genetic algorithm was used for on-line optimization to get the optimal performance parameters of support vector machines and the optimal fuzzy proportional parameters. Simulation results of a two-link manipulator demonstrated that the control method designed gets tracking effect with high precision.

To improve the control precision of robots, the control method of adaptive sliding mode for robots was presented based on fuzzy support vector machines. The sliding mode control has complete adaptability to system disturbance and siring in sliding mode, which was used to automatically track the uncertainty of system parameters and external disturbance. Fuzzy support vector machines have strong treatment of nonlinear signal and generalization ability, which was used to reduce the chattering in sliding mode control. The FSVM controller parameters were optimized by hybrid learning algorithm, which combines least square algorithm with improved genetic algorithm, to get the optimal control performance with the controlled object. The simulation results of a two-link robotic manipulator demonstrated that the control method designed gets tracking effect with high precision and speed, as well as reduces chattering of control under the condition of existing model error and external disturbance.

A model predictive control with online inductance estimator (OIEMPC) for three-phase VIENNA rectifiers is presented in this paper. An OIE adopting the dynamic filtering method and least square algorithm is proposed to further improve system robustness. In this OIE, the VIENNA rectifier pole voltages are obtained by computation utilizing the gate signals of the switching devices, AC current direction and the DC voltage, so that no additional voltage sensors are needed. Compared to the conventional MPC with finite control set (FCS-MPC), the proposed strategy can have better control performance, which effectively improves the robustness of the system. The effectiveness and correctness of the proposed OIEMPC method are demonstrated by the results of Simulink experiments.

At present, wired method is used widely in the acquisition and transmission of field signals in industrial field acquisition system. There are some problems such as long cables, difficult wiring, analog signals that are susceptible to interference and so on. A new design of industrial field intelligent temperature acquisition system based on timestamped anti-interference algorithm is presented in the paper. The system can collect analog signals of PT100 and convert that to digital signals which are transmitted to the control center by Data Transceiver. When the signals reach the control center, the system will process digital signals, and set up T-R relation table based on least square algorithm, and at last, the signals are restored to resistance signals of PT100 by using multichannel digital potentiometers. The system uses wireless transmission instead of wired transmission, to realize the collection, transmission and recovery of thermal resistance information, and solve the interference problem of long-distance wireless communication. Experimental test verify that the system communication is normal, stability and accurate, which provides a reasonable design scheme for the application of data transmission technology in industrial field.

The time of arrival (TOA) and angle of arrival (AOA) measurements from base stations (BS) can be used to obtain the location of the mobile station (MS). For TOA Location estimation, Line of Position (LOP) and least square (LS) algorithms are usually used. To reduce the Non- line-of-sight (NLOS) errors maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is performed in the constrained region. In this paper we propose few modifications in the NLOS LS method so as to improve the location estimation accuracy. In case of low NLOS noise environment, we observe that the Virtual Base Station (VBS) approach with modified NLOS LS method gives very high location estimation accuracy. In this paper the AOA method using residual test has also been proposed to obtain the height of Mobile Station above the ground. The AOA method also helps to obtain the location estimate when there are only two hearable BS. Using the location estimates thus obtained, we propose a hybrid TOA/AOA map-matching algorithm to obtain highly accurate location of the Mobile Station.
