A portable-type surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, composed from a new optical system for multi-sensing, has been developed to apply to environment analysis, clinical diagnosis etc., where many samples are desired to be analyzed at high throughput. The optical system of the sensor consists of a light-emitting diode, a pair of cylindrical lenses, a pair of collimator lenses, a correction lens, a prism, a polarizer and a linear ccd sensor with 2048 pixels. Reflected light from a sensor chip of the width of 6 mm at a certain incident angle was detected by ca. 618 pixels of the linear ccd sensor as an SPR sensor signal. An SPR sensor signal at a specified incident angle is controllable for optimization by adjusting the position of the ccdsensor. A sensor chip having a 30-stripe linear pattern (100 mu m width/stripe) was prepared. The spatial resolution as well as the performance of the sensor were evaluated by using sucrose solutions. As a result, the acquisition of SPR sensor signals from 30 sensing points was successfully achieved with a spatial resolution of 100 mu m (distance between 2 sensing points). A lower detection limit of ca. 3.2 - 5.5 x 10(-5) RIU with a standard deviation of +/- 4.5% was obtained by averaging the signals from 6 - 7 pixels of the ccdsensor per one sensing stripe.

The use of FOTS allows implementing a contactless method of spectrum analysis. A mathematical model has been developed for obtaining reference values of the energy spectrum by linear ccd sensor detection. A method for correction reading results allows us to take into account the nonuniformity of the spectral sensitivity of the linear ccd sensor, the frequency response of the attenuation of the optical fiber, and also the features of the formed spectra in different diffraction orders is proposed.

The paper discusses practical aspects of LED measurements and problems about how to improve the measurement accuracy of LED spectral properties when using linear ccd sensor. Designed and implemented an instrument for LED spectral measurement based on linear ccd sensor. The ccdsensor has 2048 pixels and ultra-high sensitivity. The duration of one measurement is about 10 ms. For reducing the effect of ccd output noise, a software filtering method is introduced. After software calibration, the accuracy of color temperature is 40 K in the range of 1300 K to 25000 K, and accuracy of wavelength is 0.2 nm in the range of 360 nm to 760 nm. The accuracy of chromaticity coordinated (x, y) or (u, v) is better than 0.003.

Common optical methods for dimension measurement apply an imaging sensor with lens. The presence of the lens in the camera (and sometimes also in the employed illuminator) increases the total dimensions of the measuring set-up. The aberrations of the lens represent a source of uncertainty. In order to simplify the measuring set-up and to reduce its overall dimensions, the proposed method applies a measuring set-up that contains no lens (it employs an imaging sensor without lens and two point light source). In this paper, the application of this method for dimension measurement of objects with circular cross-section is described. Also, several issues related to its implementation are discussed and its performance is illustrated using experimental results.

This paper describes the development of an anthropomorphic visual sensor which generates a spatially variant resolution image by using a retina-like structure. This sensor consists of a dove prism for image rotation and two linear ccd sensors with 512 pixel/line resolution and holds approximately 45 kbytes of image data. The retina-like sensor has variable resolution with increasing density towards the center of the visual field and yields a polar-coordinate image directly. The motion analysis of the object in the scene from the optical flow is considerably simplified if the velocity is represented in polar coordinates, compared to the case when the image is represented in cartesian coordinates. A calibration procedure for the proposed retina-like sensor is also presented with experimental data to verify the validity of the system. Development of this sensor holds promise in applications to high-speed tracking systems, such as the eyes of navigation robots, because it has data reduction and polar mapping characteristics.

The conception of system for digital 1D-images processing with digital ccd camera is presented. The system is created from these three basic parts: the digital ccd camera with linear image sensorccd L133C, 8-bit interface and a personal computer. The scanning digital ccd camera generated a video signals, which are processed in the analog signal processor. The output signal is continually converted to 8-bit data words in A/D converter. This data words maybe transfer over a bus driver to the operation memory of personal computer, by setting one of the three work regimes of digital ccd camera. Some application possibilities and basic technical parameters of this system are given.

For the digital 1D-image processing we go out from the so-called photometric method. For the concrete applications of the introduced method its accuracy lowers, owing to that the form of an output video signal of linear ccd sensor is not smooth and not symmetrical. In some cases the output video signal of linear ccd sensor is devalued by the certain disperse of pixel sensitivity, respectively also that a measured object and its background are not uniform. Therefore we introduce a new modification of photometric method. The obtained results show, that introduced method gives a possibility to raise the measurement accuracy of the object dimension considerably.
