Wireless access through a large distributed network of low-complexity infrastructure nodes empowered with cooperation and coordination capabilities, is an emerging radio architecture, candidate to deal with the mobile data capacity crunch. In the 3GPP evolutionary path, this is known as the Cloud-RAN paradigm for future radio. In such a complex network, distributed MIMO resources optimization is of paramount importance, in order to achieve capacity scaling. In this paper, we investigate eff cient strategies towards optimizing the pairing of access nodes with users as well as linear precoding designs for providing fair QoS experience across the whole network, when data sharing is limited due to complexity and overhead constraints. We propose a method for obtaining a spatial resources allocation optimization solution which can be applied in networks of limited scale, as well as an approximation algorithm with bounded polynomial complexity which can be used in larger networks. The particular algorithm outperforms existing user-oriented clustering techniques and achieves quite high quality-of-service levels with reasonable complexity.

Most researches on the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are based on the assumption that the MIMO channels are independent, in reality, the above assumption is very difficult to realize when the number of multiple antennas are very large. Hence the simulation on massive MIMO systems under correlated channels has some degree of guiding significance for practical application of massive MIMO systems. Simulation results show that the performance of massive MIMO systems becomes worse when the correlation coefficients of the channels increase. And when the channel correlation coefficient becomes smaller than a certain small value, the performance of massive MIMO systems will be enhanced quickly as the number of Base Station (BS) antennas increases;while the channel correlation coefficient is larger than the certain value, the performance is enhanced slowly as the number of BS antennas increases.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of jointly designing optimum linear precoder and decoder with secrecy constraints, where two legitimate parties communicate in the presence of an eavesdropper over multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian channels. In particular, we focus on optimizing the linear transceiver to guarantee a certain quality of service (QoS) level for the legitimate receiver in terms of mean square error (MSE), whilst employing the artificial noise to maximally degrade the MSE for the eavesdropper. We assume that the transmitter may not or may have the channel state information (CSI) for the eavesdropper, and then propose two design formulations. With the aid of majorization theory, we characterize the forms of optimal transmit precoder when both the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper employ the optimal linear MMSE receiver. Numerical results illustrate main conclusions.

In this paper, we present a transmission model for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel with perfect channel state information (CSI). We intend to exploit the available CSI through the use of a precoder based on the minimum Euclidean distance (d(min)) criterion. We also introduce a low density parity check coding block in order to improve the system performance. We consider a two-stream 4QAM-MIMO transmission scheme (4 bits per transmitted symbol vector) associated to a non-binary LDPC (NB-LDPC) code over GF(2(4)). The addition of the precoder in this system is studied. Simulations are made in order to show the interest of the association of the dmin-based precoder with NB-LDPC codes, which is particularly well suited for LDPC codes with high rates.

This paper addresses relay design for a wireless multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) switching scheme that enables data exchange among multiple users. Here, a multi-antenna relay linearly precodes the received (uplink) signals from multiple users before forwarding the signal in the downlink, where the purpose of precoding is to let each user receive its desired signal with interference from other users suppressed. The problem of optimizing the precoder based on sum-rate maximization criteria is typically non-convex and difficult to solve. The main contribution of this paper is that we show the sumrate maximization problem can be converted to an equivalent weighted sum-MSE minimization problem and can therefore be solved using an iterative algorithm proposed in our previous work. Asymptotic analysis reveals that, with properly chosen initial values, the proposed iterative algorithms are asymptotically optimal in both high and low signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regimes for MIMO switching, either with or without self-interference cancellation (a.k.a., physical-layer network coding). Numerical results show that the optimized MIMO switching scheme based on the proposed algorithms significantly outperforms existing approaches in the literature.

In this contribution we propose a method to increase the energy efficiency of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based femtocells. This is accomplished with no impact to the current power consumption, radio frequency (RF) circuitry, link adaptation strategies, bandwidth and transmit power. The proposed technique recycles redundant resources of OFDM transmissions (e.g., guard bands and cyclic prefixes), introduced to combat frequency selectivity. We borrow the underlying idea from a technique called cognitive interference alignment (CIA). Interestingly, our novel approach does not suffer from the same issues inherent to CIA, such as synchronization at the primary receiver and channel knowledge related complications. Nevertheless, it introduces a new issue related to the interference from the OFDM signal, which prompted the adoption of an adequate linear receiver at the femtocell user equipment. Numerical findings demonstrate that spectral efficiency gains are achieved, improving the energy efficiency of the femtocell by up to 20% for the simulated scenario.

In this paper, we jointly solve the problem of transmit antenna selection and zero-forcing (ZF) precoding in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. A new problem formulation is proposed which enables efficient semi-definite programming (SDP) to solve the originally non-convex problem of antenna selection. This has been accomplished by imposing the Group Lasso sparsity promoting term in the precoding design criterium as a convex relaxation of the l(0)-norm operation. For the selected set of antennas, we then minimize the overall transmit power, subject to a constraint on the maximum achievable throughput. Simulation results reveal the power saving advantage of the proposed algorithm compared to a randomly selected subset of antennas.

Walsh-Hadamard-Fourier transform based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (WHFT-OFDM) is an efficient linearly precoded OFDM system to exploit multipath diversity in the frequency selective fading channel. This paper proposes a WHFT-OFDM scheme with space-multipath diversity by using the cyclic delay diversity (CDD) technique which deliberately introduces delayed echoes at transmitter to enhance the diversity gain of WHFT-OFDM. Moreover, the proposed WHFT-OFDM system provides an efficient way to implement the multicarrier code division multiple access for multiuser systems;its maximum multipath diversity, which is equal to the number of resolvable paths from the channels, is analyzed. Simulations are provided to validate the advantages of the proposed scheme.

In this paper, we study the performance of regularized channel inversion precoding in MISO broadcast channels with confidential messages under imperfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). We obtain an approximation for the achievable secrecy sum-rate which is almost surely exact as the number of transmit antennas and the number of users grow to infinity in a fixed ratio. Simulations prove this anaylsis accurate even for finite-size systems. For FDD systems, we determine how the CSIT error must scale with the SNR, and we derive the number of feedback bits required to ensure a constant high-SNR rate gap to the case with perfect CSIT. For TDD systems, we study the optimum amount of channel training that maximizes the high-SNR secrecy sum-rate.
