A new decision-aided soft a posteriori probability (APP) algorithm for iterative differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signal demodulation/decoding in Rayleigh nat-fading channel is presented. Compared with conventional APP algorithms for iterative DPSK, the new algorithm results in considerably lower decoding cost yet can achieve nearly the same performance.

The decoding complexity is the main issue in designing DVB-S2 low Density Parity Check (LDPC) decoder. This paper proposes a low complexity decoder, which is based on a new row message passing Offset Min-Sum algorithm. The proposed algorithm can reduce the complexity of the decoder with no performance loss. The simplified node update units based on the proposed algorithm and the memory organization optimized across different code rates play the key role in reducing the complexity. The synthesized area of the decoder is 9.6mm(2) in Chartered 90nm COMS technology. When the code rate is 9/10 and the work frequency is 320MHz, the net throughput of the decoder is 998Mbps.

In this study, a novel group-indexed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing index modulation (OFDM-IM) scheme is proposed to achieve a tradeoff between spectral efficiency (SE) and bit-error-rate (BER) performance. In the proposed scheme, the total subcarriers in a group are divided into subgroups, and additional bits are transmitted by subgroup indexing, unlike the conventional OFDM-IM scheme, which uses index bits to select active subcarriers. With the proposed scheme, the additional degree of freedom provided by the number of active subgroups selected provides a tradeoff between spectral efficiency and BER performance. Decoding is performed in steps to reduce computional complexity in the decoder design. Simulaton results show that the number of active subgroups selected influences the proposed scheme's performance in terms of energy efficiency, spectral efficiency, and BER performance.

Recently, Guo and Xia introduced low complexity decoders called Partial Interference Cancellation (PIC) and PIC with Successive Interference Cancellation (PIC-SIC), which include the Zero Forcing (ZF) and ZF-SIC receivers as special cases, for point-to-point MIMO channels. In this paper, we show that PIC and PIC-SIC decoders are capable of achieving the full cooperative diversity available in wireless relay networks. We give sufficient conditions for a Distributed Space-Time Block Code (DSTBC) to achieve full diversity with PIC and PIC-SIC decoders and construct a new class of DSTBCs with low complexity full-diversity PIC-SIC decoding using complex orthogonal designs. The new class of codes includes a number of known full-diversity PIC/PIC-SIC decodable Space-Time Block Codes (STBCs) constructed for point-to-point channels as special cases. The proposed DSTBCs achieve higher rates (in complex symbols per channel use) than the multigroup ML decodable DSTBCs available in the literature. Simulation results show that the proposed codes have better bit error rate performance than the best known low complexity, full-diversity DSTBCs.

Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is one of the most concerned non-orthogonal multiple access schemes in 5G communication system. Meanwhile, device-to-device (D2D) communication is also one of the key technologies for 5G network to improve the spectral efficiency. In cellular systems with SCMA, the non-orthogonal nature renders resource blocks support for more users so that an overloaded system can be achieved. To further improve the system capacity, a D2D and uplink cellular coexisting network is proposed in this paper. The interference between D2D and cellular users are handled. Since conventional message passing algorithm (MPA) has the exponential complexity, the receiver for cellular users is based on some low complexity methods and that for D2D users is also associated with this method. Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid network has an acceptable BER performance loss compared to the general uplink SCMA system, while the proposed SCMA receiver can reduce the decoding complexity significantly compared to the conventional MPA.

(1)Multiple bit upsets (MBUs) caused by high energy radiation is the most common source of soft errors in static random-access memories (SRAMs) affecting multiple cells. Burst error correcting Hamming codes have most commonly been used to correct MBUs in SRAM cell since they have low redundancy and low decoder latency. But with technology scaling, the number of bits being affected increases, thus requiring a need for increasing the burst size that can be corrected. However, this is a problem because it increases the number of syndromes exponentially thus increasing the decoder complexity exponentially as well. In this paper, a new burst error correcting code based on Hamming codes is proposed which allows much better scaling of decoder complexity as the burst size is increased. For larger burst sizes, it can provide significantly smaller and faster decoders than existing methods thus providing higher reliability at an affordable cost. Moreover, there is frequently no increase in the number of check bits or a very minimal increase in comparison with existing methods. A general construction and decoding methodology for the new codes is proposed. Experimental results are presented comparing the decoder complexity for the proposed codes with conventional burst error correcting Hamming codes demonstrating the significant improvements that can be achieved.

In this paper, we derive a maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder of the decode-and-forward (DF) protocol utilizing an arbitrary complex-valued M-point constellation. Existing decoders of the DF based cooperative systems are applicable only to real-valued constellations like BPSK and M-PAM, hence, also to square M2-QAM. We have considered a DF based cooperative system with a single source-destination pair and one relay. The ML decoder is obtained by maximizing the probability density function (p.d.f.) of the received signal at the destination. The proposed ML decoder provides lower decoding complexity than an existing decoder. We also propose an approximate piecewise linear (PL) decoder for M-PSK constellation which performs similar to the proposed ML decoder. The proposed PL decoder provides significant lower decoding complexity than the proposed ML decoder. We analytically derive the approximate symbol error rate of the proposed PL decoder. The DF based cooperative system with the proposed ML and PL decoders outperforms the same rate amplify-and-forward based cooperative communication system from moderate to high signal-to-noise ratio values.
