Fast matrix inversion based on Chebyshev acceleration for linear detection in massive MIMO systems

To circumvent the prohibitive complexity of linear minimum mean square error detection in a massive multiple-input multiple-output system, several iterative methods have been proposed. However, they can still be too complex and/or lead to non-negligible performance degradation. In this letter, a Chebyshev acceleration technique is proposed to overcome the limitations of iterative methods, accelerating the convergence rates and enhancing the performance. The Chebyshev acceleration method employs a new vector combination, which combines the spectral radius of the iteration matrix with the receiver signal, and also the optimal parameters of Chebyshev acceleration have also been defined. A detector based on iterative algorithms requires pre-processing and initialisation, which enhance the convergence, performance, and complexity. To influence the initialisation, the stair matrix has been proposed as the first start of iterative methods. The performance results show that the proposed technique outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of error rate performance, while significantly reducing the computational complexity.

Energy and spectral efficiency improvement using improved shark smell-coyote optimization for massive MIMO system

massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) can considerably enhance the "spectral efficiency and energy efficiency" since it is a major technique for future wireless networks. Thus, the performance needs a huge count of base station antennas to serve a smaller number of terminals in conventional MIMO methodology. Large-scale radio frequency (RF) chains represent the large-scale antennas. There is a need of implementing an effective massive MIMO system for maximizing the efficient performance of the system with high "spectral efficiency and energy efficiency" owing to the high cost of RF chains, and the higher power consumption. In this paper, a massive MIMO communication system is implemented to satisfy the requirements regarding "energy efficiency and spectral efficiency." Here, the number of base station antennas, the transmit power, and beam forming vectors are optimized to maximize "energy efficiency and spectral efficiency" when the channel capacity is known to be higher than some threshold values. The novelty of this work is a new hybrid optimization adaptive shark smell-coyote optimization (ASS-CO) algorithm is developed for improving energy efficiency. The optimization is done with the help of the hybrid optimization ASS-CO Algorithm. The proposed ASS-CO algorithm-based massive MIMO communication system is evaluated by experimental analysis. From the result analysis, the maximum resource efficiency is observed by SS-WOA, which is 6.6%, 50%, 6.6%, 6.6%, and 6.6% maximized than rider optimization algorithm (ROA), spotted hyena optimization (SHO), lion algorithm (LA), Shark Smell Optimization (SSO), and Coyote Optimization Algorithm (COA) by taking the count of base stations as 4. The superior performance enhancement regarding "spectral efficiency and energy efficiency" is accomplished over the traditional systems.

Performance of OFDM-based massive MIMO OTFS systems for underwater acoustic communication

In this study, multi-user (MU) underwater acoustic communication is investigated using massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based orthogonal time frequency space modulation (OTFS) systems. The performance of a 4-user scenario is evaluated over a simulated 1 km vertically-configured time-varying underwater acoustic channel (UAC) in terms of bit error rate and maximum achievable bit rate. Considering 64-QAM and frequency-domain pilot-based channel estimation, it is shown that the underwater vehicles employing the OFDM-based OTFS modulation outperform those using the conventional OFDM modulation in a dynamic UAC. The application of massive MIMO allows the four underwater vehicles to use the same time and frequency resources to transmit their information reliably to a surface station. Furthermore, it is shown that each underwater vehicle in the MU-massive MIMO transmission scenario can achieve an effective bit rate as high as 198.7 kbps over the 1 km UAC using four transmitting transducers.

Sparsity-based MIMO interference suppression technique in the presence of imperfect channel state information

In this study, sparsity-based precoding schemes have been suggested to suppress the interference and improve the energy efficiency of a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system when imperfect channel state information is available. To this goal, the sparsity and joint sparsity properties have been imposed on the precoding matrix for the purpose of boosting the energy efficiency or antenna selection. Moreover, the authors have assumed that only a few of the user's channel vectors have been erroneously estimated in the transmitter side. Hence, the channel estimation error matrix has been modelled as a joint sparse matrix. Adding the maximum transmission power constraint, the authors estimate the precoding matrix through solving a convex optimisation problem. Various simulation scenarios have been conducted, which confirm that the proposed precoding schemes improve the energy efficiency in the massive MIMO system.

Spectral efficiency analysis and pilot reuse factor optimisation for multi-cell massive SC-SM MIMO

As a combination of spatial modulation (SM) system and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, massive SM aided MIMO (SM-MIMO) system is recently proposed. In broadband scenarios, single-carrier (SC) modulation is introduced to massive SM-MIMO system, thus massive SC-SM MIMO system is proposed for uplink multi-user transmission over frequency-selective fading channels. In this study, the uplink spectral efficiency (SE) of multi-cell massive SC-SM MIMO system is analysed, meanwhile the pilot contamination effect is taken into consideration. A tight SE lower bound of multi-cell massive SC-SM MIMO system is proposed with maximum ratio (MR) combining, which also takes into account the imperfect channel estimation, transmit antenna correlation and path loss. The tightness of the authors' proposed closed-form SE lower bound is shown via simulation results. The optimal pilot reuse factor can be determined with different system configurations by simulations, and the pilot reuse factor that is larger than one is more suitable for less TAs and user equipments.

Weighted Subspace Fitting for Two-Dimension DOA Estimation in massive MIMO systems

massive multiple-input multiple-output system can enable multi-stream transmission for high spectrum efficiency, which is a key technology in future 5G cellular networks. In this paper, we degenerate a direction of arrival (DOA) related 2-D weighted subspace fitting function into two independent parameterized 1-D versions. Based on this, we develop a novel 2-D DOA estimation algorithm, which can be utilized to assist in performing downlink precoding. Furthermore, we also make an analysis on the computational complexity and the theoretical Cramer-Rao lower bound. The direct merits are as follows: the proposed algorithm includes only once polynomial rooting and also does not require angle paring, hence it is of computational efficiency;in addition, compared with some existing algorithms, it can achieve higher 2-D angle estimating accuracy. A series of Monte Carlo simulations are subsequently carried out, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
