Performance evaluation of message-oriented middleware using the SPECjms2007 benchmark

message-oriented middleware (MOM) is at the core of a vast number of financial services and telco applications, and is gaining increasing traction in other industries, such as manufacturing, transportation, health-care and supply chain management. Novel messaging applications, however, pose some serious performance and scalability challenges. In this paper, we present a methodology for performance evaluation of MOM platforms using the SPECjms2007 standard benchmark. SPECjms2007 is based on a novel application in the supply chain management domain, designed to stress MOM infrastructures in a manner representative of real-world applications. In addition to providing a standard workload and metrics for MOM performance, the benchmark provides a flexible performance analysis framework that allows users to tailor the workload to their requirements. The contributions of this paper are: (i) we present a detailed workload characterization of SPECjms2007 with the goal to help users understand the internal components of the workload and the way they are scaled, (ii) we show how the workload can be customized to exercise and evaluate selected aspects of MOM performance, (iii) we present a case study of a leading JMS platform, the BEA WebLogic server, conducting an in-depth performance analysis of the platform under a number of different workload and configuration scenarios. The methodology we propose is the first one that uses a standard benchmark, providing both a representative workload as well as the ability to customize it to evaluate the features of MOM platforms selectively. Rapid-Response Framework for Defensive Driving Based on Internet of Vehicles Using message-oriented middleware

With the rapid development of automatic driving and advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle safety has improved greatly. These systems mainly use sensors installed on the vehicle and help drivers deal with human operation errors. Traffic accidents are inherently unpredictable, and it is difficult to prevent mistakes made by others. Therefore, the concept of defensive driving has attracted much interest. Defensive driving aims to increase drivers' self-awareness to prevent accidents. Future self-driving vehicles should integrate defensive driving to improve driver safety. This paper proposes a framework based on the risk evaluation value of defensive driving that rapidly transmits information about high-accident-likelihood zones to drivers or vehicles by using Internet of Vehicles technology. This should enable drivers or self-driving vehicles to predict risks and operate vehicles safely. To send alert messages in a timely manner, it is essential to overcome the challenge of processing real-time data during driving. We design five kinds of services in this rapid response framework, including raw data receiver, warning area decision, accident pattern recognition, message generator, and user profile to analyze driver information using distributed system architecture. message-oriented middleware is used for communication between services. This framework identifies high-accident-likelihood zones by using density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise, simplifying the process of association calculation. After the calculation, this framework uses the weighted severity index to weight and compare risk severities. According to our experimental results, the service-oriented middleware design increases the speed and stability of information transmission.

This paper describes key aspects of remote service invocation in federations of OSGi containers. It refers to the OSGi Remote Service Admin specification and describes its efficient implementation over message-oriented middleware. Scalability problems of several different approaches to implementation are identified, and a solution in a form of innovative Remote Service Admin model extension is proposed. The extension, named On-demand Remote Service Admin, is analyzed and validated in the context of a motivating scenario. Validation includes performance and scalability evaluation, which confirms that all assumed requirements have been satisfied by the constructed prototype. If you are involved in designing and building distributed messaging systems, you are well aware of the problems in tracking down and isolating bugs. A common approach is to log into each of the remote hosts, start the application on each, then watch for exceptions or debug statements you inserted in the code. The problem with this approach is that it doesn\'t scale well. For one thing, when the distributed system involves tens of computers and hundreds of processes, it is impossible to observe all of the console windows. Furthermore, when the distributed processes are sending hundreds or thousands of messages (and it\'s your job to find out why a handful of messages out of those thousands aren\'t making it to their destination), it is impossible to visually track every message through the system by monitoring the debug statements emitted to the screen.

This article explores a method to solve the security problems such as limited single-server processing power and single point of failure, and so on, a newly designed and developed message-oriented middleware that supports clustering features. By improving the traditional reverse proxy cluster system, message-oriented middleware has been made more applicable to message transmission services. A method of dynamic load balancing and load transfer was based on a variety of factors that was also designed according to the characteristics of a message service system. The method can solve problems like system instability and performance bottle-neck in message-oriented middleware effectively and can increase the throughput of the system obviously.

message-oriented middleware (MOM) has become a vital part of the complex application integration projects. MOM is used to pass data and work flow in the form of messages between different enterprise applications. The performance of integrated applications greatly depends on how effectively the MOM performs. This paper presents a benchmark comparison between two industry well-known MOMs-TIBCO Rendezvous (TIB/RV) and SonicMQ. Although the two MOMs are very similar in certain respects, their native implementation and architecture are very different. We provide an unbiased benchmark reference to the middleware selection process. The primary objective of our work is to evaluate and compare the MOMs by testing their effectiveness in the delivery of messages in publish/subscribe and point-to-point message domains, their program stability and the system resource utilization. In order to improve the efficiency of real-time data transmission between different Internet Data Centers (IDCs) by content, this paper proposes a content-based real-time message-oriented middleware for cloud environment (Cloud-MOM). Nodes of Cloud-MOM can be deployed in IDCs in different regions. The messages from each IDC can be routed and transmitted through nodes efficiently. In another way, for real-time processing of real-time data streams, content-based triggers for data streams are supported in Cloud-MOM. In this paper, functional tests and performance tests on Cloud-MOM are performed. The experimental results show that Cloud-MOM can efficiently and stably carry out data transmission across IDCs, and the content-based triggers effectively improve the quality of network transmission and reduce the network load as well. This paper provides a novel solution for efficient and stable data transmission for the distributed systems.

Pub/Sub model with the characteristics of loose coupling, fully information sharing, many-to-many communication and flexible resources reorganization is suitable for message-oriented middleware's information exchanging on Telemetry and Command(TT&C) computers. According to the disadvantage of traditional model of message-oriented middleware(point-to-point, message queue, shared memory), An architecture of pub/sub model on TT&C computer was put forward. The components of the architecture was analyzed. Priority the key technologies: Complete and concise message model, High efficient and real-time message matching algorithm, message routing protocol with QoS guarantee, Virtualization strategy with double/multi machine redundancy was proposed. Experiments of matching algorithm show that the efficiency of matching algorithm proposed is higher than traditional predicate counting algorithm and violent matching.

This paper presents Swarm, a message-oriented middleware (MoM) using a hybrid infrastructure;a collection of (lightweight) IoT devices, arranged in clusters. The light infrastructure hosts a mechanism that combines a swarm intelligence algorithm and a gossip protocol for message dissemination. The resulting system is open, available and reliable. It offers an exactly-once message delivery guarantees by default but could fall back to at-most-once when too many IoT devices fail or leave the infrastructure.

A reheating furnace model system is developed based on message-oriented middleware (MOM), which includes four parts of real-time tracking process, temperature calculation process, temperature setting process and heat balance process. According to MOM, actual production information is acquired from the furnace control system, while values of temperature setting and air-fuel ratio are sent back to control system. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is adopted for the communication between four different processes, as well as shared memory on managing common data structure such as furnace parameters and production status. A prototype system is deployed in a wire rod reheating furnace, along with six months production, as well as two other embedded thermocouple experiments. The verification reveals stability, responsibility, and validity.
