The ongoing digital transformation of industry is most clearly reflected in the increasing collection and analysis of data from various sources. Among these are sensor equipped machinery, telemetry in logistics or audiovisually monitored production floors. In order to utilize the data, e.g., to predict machinery malfunctions, its technically smooth consolidation is crucial. Therefore, numerous data interchange formats, protocols and middleware emerged over the past years. However, until today there is no gold standard technology stack for industrial data analysis, for multiple reasons, including the applications' heterogeneity. In this work, we present a software library which aims at decoupling messaging protocols and patterns from their implementation to overcome incompatibilities and, thus, facilitate data consolidation for software engineers. Moreover, we show how to use the library for rapidly modeling distributed cyber-physical systems using an integrated schema generation mechanism. Based on one real-world and one synthetic use case, we evaluate the library's applicability, discuss open issues and outline planned features. (C) 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The manufacturing sector represents a notable use case of the Industry 4.0 revolution, heavily stressing the capability of plants to ensure the desired QoS. Currently, manufacturing plants are characterized by an increasing amount of non-mission-critical traffic, in addition to traditional mission-critical safety-related traffic, which is negligible in comparison. Since computing and networking capabilities are no longer as abundant as in the past, there is the need to properly manage available resources. To ensure challenging QoS requirements, we propose a novel protocol suite specifically designed for our QoS-enabled semantic routing framework. Such a framework adopts an architecture that fits the characteristics of modern manufacturing environments and exploits an overlay networking solution providing a semantic routing substrate that operates both at the application and network layers.

The metallic revolving table, which is used to support the antenna during the measurement, greatly affects the radiation pattern of the antenna. In this paper, Log Periodic Dipole Array (LPDA) was simulated with and without the metallic revolving table using commercial software - FEKO. Simulated results in two situations were compared to analyze the effects due to the metallic revolving table. Finally, a method for reducing its effect was presented.

This paper intends to search for the analytical solutions for the singular integral in analyzing conformal dipole arrays by Method of Moments (MOM). For the integral kernel of dipoles, an analytical solution is obtained by using the series form of the complete elliptic integral of the first kind. A recursive relation and an analytical solution are obtained to eliminate the sirigularities of the self-impedance integrals of the body of revolution (BOR). And the nonsingular parts of the integrals of the BOR are numerically integrated by FFT. Finally, a cylindrical conformal dipole array is analyzed by the method proposed above. The results agree well with those of measured.

The validation of low-frequency measurements and electromagnetic (EM) scattering computations for several simple, generic shapes, such as an equilateral-triangular plate, an equilateral-triangular plate with a concentric equilateral-triangular hole, and diamond- and hexagonal-shaped plates, is discussed. The plates were constructed from a thin aluminium sheet with a thickness of 0.08 cm. EM scattering by the planar plates was measured in the experimental test range (ETR) facility of NASA Langley Research Center. The dimensions of the plates were selected such that, over the frequency range of interest, the dimensions were in the range of lambda /sub 0/ to 3 lambda /sub 0/. In addition, the triangular plate with a triangular hole was selected to study internal-hole resonances.< >

For solving the difficult problems of parameters estimation (influenced by model type, parameters number, complex computation process, etc) in the process of hydrologic frequency analysis by traditional methods, one improved method named SAGA-ML has been proposed as follows. firstly establishing one parameter optimization program, whose object function is the expression of minimal likelihood function about hydrologic frequency model, and the constraint equations are gotten by MOM, then SAGA is used to optimize parameters. This improved SAGA-ML method can overcome the disadvantages of conventional ML method because of using SAGA for parameter optimization. By Monte-Carlo tests, it has been concluded that the improved SAGA-ML method is effective and convenient when being used, and suitable for any hydrologic models, any numbers of parameters and any constraint conditions So SAGA-ML becomes useful and effective both in theory and in practice

The ease of software development, maintenance, commissioning and reconfiguration is paramount in industrial systems, because these must be adaptable to changes in customer demand and the evolution of production assets. Such adaptations are a core motivator in the fourth industrial revolution. Additionally, software applications should be able to communicate over the logical and geographical borders of production plants, regardless of software platforms and vendors. However, these issues remains unaddressed in current software tools, although a solution is reachable with a proper software toolkit. As a solution, this article introduces such a toolkit to support the development of industrial software systems. The toolkit implements a communication stack with both a communication protocol and an information model. The long-term goal is to enable all communication in industrial plants with such a toolkit regardless of software products, vendors and platforms. Additionally, the toolkit provides auxiliary tools to help in the development of industrial software, such as services to provide historical data for simulation purposes. As an outcome, the toolkit provides insight about the development needs of industrial communications. Copyright (C) 2021 The Authors.

Distributed applications are usually concurrent and nondeterministic. For this reason, formal verification on their design specifications is an essential technique for us to gain more confidence in the correctness of the behavioral aspects of our design before putting them into coding stage. message-oriented middleware (MOM) is widely used to simplify the task of interprocess communications in distributed applications. To model the MOM-based applications for verification purpose, the services provided by MOM must also be integrated into the models. However, MOM modeling is non-trivial. While providing high-level program interfaces which shield programmers from the complexity of the underlying operating systems and networks, MOM may also conceals under such interfaces the concurrency and nondeterminism present in the underlying networks. This increases the possibility of misinterpretting the behavior of the applications, which in turn causes design errors. An over-abstracted MOM model based on Application Programming Interface may bury such design errors while an over-detailed model may consume too much resource and render the verification infeasible: As a guideline for MOM modeling, we present several formal models of various behavioral aspects of MOM in terms of Promela, the specification language used in SPIN model checker. Based on our empirical study, we also discuss the impact of incorporating these formal models in different settings into the MOM-based application models, in terms of increased state space for model checking.

During the past years a lot of work on Notification Services has been focused on features like scalability, transactions, persistence, routing algorithms, caching, mobility, etc. However, less work has been invested on how to evaluate or compare such systems. The selection of the most appropriate Notification Services for a particular application scenario is crucial and today available tools are bound to a particular implementation. If the Notification Service under test does not fulfill the application requirements then a new try with other Notification Service needs to be started from scratch: the description of the workload characterization and its injection cannot be reused. In this paper we introduce NSLoadGen (Notification Services Load Generator), a testbed platform that supports the definition of real-life scenarios, the simulation of these scenarios against notification services, and finally generating vast data that can be used to precisely evaluate it. NSLoadGen is not targeted at any specific Notification Services, but rather is generic and adaptable. It has been designed to support a wide variety of Notification Services characteristics, hiding the many differences among messaging products/specifications (e.g. Java message Service [1]) and, at the same time, it is easily extensible to support new implementations. This paper covers the different steps the tool follows (scenario definition, scenario simulation and result collection), the proposed approach, as well as relevant design and implementation details.
