The radiation characteristics are presented for a three-element Yagi-Uda antenna enclosed in an electrically large Kaman radome. The discussion focuses on the influences of various structural parameters, such as the radome thickness, permittivity, size and the antenna position. The method of moments (MOM) is applied to the Yagi-Uda antenna, and the equivalent physical optics (PO) currents produced by the antenna radiation are then assumed on the radome wall. Calculation results indicate that radome parameters and the antenna position can affect the antenna radiation characteristics seriously.

This paper deals with the design and implementation of a parallel software system based on differential evolution for the registration of images, and with its testing on two bidimensional remotely sensed images on mosaicking problem. Registration is carried out by finding the most suitable affine transformation in terms of maximization of the mutual information between the first image and the transformation of the second one, without any need for setting control points. A coarse-grained distributed version is implemented on a cluster of personal computers

An X-band voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO with frequency modulation (FM) capability is realized in a 0.18mum 1P6M CMOS technology. The characteristics of the VCO modulated by a 100KHz triangular waveform are presented and investigated. The passive components of the VCO are implemented by two-dimensional (2-D) complementary-conducting strip transmission lines (CCS TLs), varactors and metal-oxide-metal (MOM) capacitors for substrate coupling consideration. The measured VCO with free running phase noise of -83.2 dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset from the carrier. The compact VCO chip size is 330 times450mum 2 excluding pads. Furthermore, the modulation bandwidth is up to 400MHz of the proposed VCO with direct FM modulation which could improve range resolution in a radar system

This paper illustrates the application into the MoM technique of a clever formulation to evaluate the array Green's function (AGF) of large finite planar phased array. The procedure is based on the AGF representation in terms of a double spectral integral, whose integration paths are properly deformed to have an exponential attenuation of the integrand. The diffraction integral is evaluated numerically for point close to the array edges while an asymptotic treatment is proposed far from the edges. This latter comprises higher order contributions. Thanks to this convergence properties, the final algorithm is numerically accurate, stable and more efficient with respect to the individual element summation for large arrays. This AGF is then inserted into the MoM scheme, where the reactions are calculated between two basic cells ("cell on cell"). Each cell includes the radiating element, which is still meshed by using RWG basis function. This procedure allows a reduction of complexity either in filling the MoM matrix or in solving the system.

In this short paper we present SCOMET, a system based on the peer-to-peer model that offers group management and various communication services for mobile ad-hoc collaboration. This system, which is under current development in the context of the IST-POPEYE project, aims to reduce communication impact by considering locality and cluster-based solutions. Besides, it offers services such as publish/subscribe, naming and communication primitives for building higher level applications.

Event services based on publish-subscribe architectures are well established components of distributed computing applications. Recently, an event service has been proposed as part of the common component architecture (CCA) for high-performance computing applications. In this paper we describe our experiences investigating implementation options for the CCA event service that exploit interprocess communications mechanisms commonly used on HPC platforms. The aim of our work is to create an event service that supports the well-known software engineering advantages of publish-subscribe architectures, and provides performance levels approaching those achievable using more primitive message-passing mechanisms such as MPI.

Accurate, computationally intensive numerical algorithms have become necessary to handle the increasing complexity of electromagnetic problems in biological applications. In this work, a high performance hybrid -^sMoM/FDTD approach is presented for electromagnetic analysis and design applications in microwave breast tumor detection. The proposed algorithm is based on Huygen's equivalent surface methods. The simulation study of a bow-tie antenna-breast phantom interaction demonstrates the efficacy of the proposed algorithm and suggests that, with further development, this hybrid scheme would be a useful tool in the continued development of microwave imaging for breast cancer.

A novel hybrid method combining the flexibility of transmission line matrix method and the efficiency of time domain method of moments is presented for the efficient analysis of radiating structures in presence of obstacles located within the propagation environment. While the field inside the complex in-homogeneous objects is modeled by the TLM method, conducting thin wire, surface structures and the free-space electromagnetic interaction between the objects are described via time-domain integral equations. The proposed hybrid method is applied to analyse the near-field coupling of a patch antenna with obstacles represented by an apertured metallic enclosure and a thin wire. To validate this new approach, we have compared the results with those obtained using the pure transmission line matrix method.

OGSA (open gird service architecture) implements grid service that is an abstract of every resource via the web services. But the XML-RPC (remote procedure call based on the eXtensibile Mark Language) convention that grid service commonly uses limits the convenient and massive data transmission. A new mechanism, which is MOM (message-oriented middleware) based on OGSA, is presented here to efficiently solve this problem. It can be utilized by the grid service instances to exchange data with high performance by simplifying data communication mechanism in OGSA. Our MOM mechanism is based not on RPC style message, but original SOAP (simple object access protocol) message.

In the last few years, numerous multimedia archives have made extensive use of digitized storage and annotation technologies. Still, the development of single points of access, providing common and uniform access to their data, despite the efforts and accomplishments of standardization organizations, has remained an open issue as it involves the integration of various large-scale heterogeneous and heterolingual systems. This paper describes a mediator system that achieves architectural integration through an extended three-tier architecture and content integration through semantic modeling. The described system has successfully integrated five multimedia archives, quite different in nature and content from each other, while also providing easy and scalable inclusion of more archives in the future.
