In this paper, the combined-field integral equation named TENH + PMCHW is used to investigate the electromagnetic scattering characters. The coated structures are solved by applying the method of moment (MoM). The relatively stable convergent rate of the iterative solution versus different large permittivity of coating has been found in the CFIE. The important numerical feature of the CFIE makes it more practical than other hybrid methods.

For the original article see ibid., ***-35, no.4, p.383-95 (1987). In commenting on the above named work by D.T. Borup et al. it is asserted that certain wrong assumptions about the FFT (fast Fourier transform) conjugate gradient method lead to meaningless statements in the original work. In a reply from two of the three original authors is it made clear that (1) several conclusions attributed to the original work do not appear in the work; and (2) an algorithm claimed in the comment to be the solution of an operator equation, as opposed to a matrix equation, is actually equivalent to a matrix moment solution.< >

Three different formulations that allow to extend the BMIA/AIM method to the analysis of large dielectric stratified structures are introduced. These techniques lead to an approximate form of the multilayer Green's function, valid in the region where the thickness of the substrate can be considered small compared to its transverse dimension. This approximate form results as the product of three terms: two dependent by the source and observation longitudinal position, the other by its transverse distance. The first technique makes use of a suitable description of the Green's function in terms of discrete complex images. The remaining ones deal with the evaluation of the Green's function along the steepest descent path integration and a least-squares interpolation formulation, respectively.

In this article, a new multistructure fast computation technique based on the Method of Moments (MOM) is applied to the design of printed antennas. Simultaneous analysis of different structures with multistructure MOM leads to important time savings in comparison to equivalent direct MOM simulations. The design of an inset microstrip-line fed patch antenna and a simple microstrip-line fed patch antenna are presented to illustrate the capabilities of the new multistructure MOM.

The iterative forward backward (FB) method has been proposed to solve the magnetic field integral equation for smooth one-dimensional rough surfaces. This method has proved to be very efficient, converging in a very small number of iterations. Nevertheless, this solution becomes unstable when some obstacle, like a ship or a large breaking wave, is included in the original problem. In this paper we propose a new extension of the FB method: the generalized forward backward (GFB) method, to solve such kinds of composite problems.

An efficient method-of-moments volume integral formulation using combined entire-domain and subdomain basis functions is proposed for simulating the resonant modes of a rectangular DR in an MIC environment. The formulation is based on the mixed-potential integral equation using Michalski's formulation-C Green's functions. The spatial-domain Green's functions are calculated by using the complex image method. Different from the simple sinusoidal entire-domain basis functions used by previous methods, an approximate solution for the resonant modes of rectangular DR in MIC environment based on Marcatili's method is used as the entire-domain basis function, while a set of tetrahedral basis functions are used as sub-domain basis functions. Since the main profile of the resonant mode can be represented well by the entire-domain basis function, only a small number of sub-domain basis functions are needed for further refinement of the representation. Compared with the method-of-moments formulations using only sub-domain or entire-domain basis functions, this method is much faster for the same accuracy. Numerical results are given and compared with other methods.

In the problem of the electromagnetic scattering, the conductive surface of electrically large objects with complex geometry can be divided into a number of sub-surfaces with simple shape far each. The total scattering field may be considered as summation of the physical optics (PO) from all sub-surfaces, but the additional diffracted contribution from the discontinuous junction between those sub-surfaces must be taken into account. Besides the asymptotic expression of diffraction coefficients had been derived for the regular edge of canonical scatterer, only the numerical diffraction coefficients (NDC) can be employed. A hybrid method of the generalized multi-pole technique and physical optics (GMT/PO) was developed previously for extracting the NDC of an irregular conductive wedge. In this paper, the GMT/PO hybrid method accompanied with an iteration technique is extended to extract 3-D NDC from an an irregular edge between the terminal cross-section and the circularly cylindrical surface of a semi-infinite conductive scatterer. The computed RCS (backward NDC) of a finite circular-cylinder with regular edge are in good agreement with the measured data.

We apply smooth local cosine (SLC) functions to integral equations to solve thin-wire scattering and radiation problems. Numerical examples of a thin-wire scatterer and antenna are presented. The results are compared with those obtained by using the standard pulse-based MoM. It is noticed that the use of the fast discrete cosine transform DCT-IV can drastically reduce computation time and increase the accuracy of numerical calculations.

The authors explore the importance of symmetric or antisymmetric wavelets with compact supports and orthogonal behavior for solving electromagnetic problems. Since there are many wavelets genus can be obtained, either real-valued or complex-valued, we need a reasonable criterion to choose the most suitable basis for the application at hand. A new selection criterion based on the time-localization measure of scaling functions and wavelets is proposed to investigate the relationship between the localization of wavelets and the sparsity of the resultant moment method (MoM) matrix equation.

The application of a wavelet expansion to the moment method (WMoM) is studied for the analysis of a circular loop and a Yagi-Uda circular loop array. The usual expansion and weighting functions are replaced by periodic wavelets defined in the finite interval [0,1]. The periodic wavelet in [0,1] is constructed from the cardinal B-spline with the minimum support. Current distributions from the WMoM with the quadratic cardinal B-spline wavelet agree well with the results of the conventional moment method (MoM) and the sparse generalized impedance matrix is obtained. By using threshold processing, the WMoM may exhibit advantages of shorter computation time and smaller storage for the matrix equation compared with the MoM.
