This paper describes the design of a framework and implementation of a testbed of an event propagation and management system. These events are generated by equipment or machines in a plant. Event states are modeled using statecharts and colored Petri nets, which were used also for simulating the proposed system. In our lab test a small network is set-up, which represents a federated control system consisting of (simulated) equipment generating events, a server brokering between event producers and consumers and mobile phones, which are the consumer of events and that are used to respond to events using SMS messaging. The testbed simulates equipment or machines in a factory or plant, which under normal circumstances operate stand-alone or with minimal supervision of an operator. In case of failure, these machines require immediate response from a service engineer, as the operation of the machine within the factory or plant is mission-critical and thus demands a minimum downtime (as will be the case when there are abnormalities, failures or events). The framework was successfully tested and has been found to be a viable and affordable solution for efficient event management.

We address how the XML Topic Map (XTM) 1.0 standard can be used to develop an analytical knowledge base comprised of multiple ontologies to support intelligence assessments. Termed the MultiOntology Analytical Knowledge Organizational (MAKO) framework, it incorporates a Multidimensional Ontology Model (MOM) that organizes subjects into separate conceptualizations based upon common-sense groupings. Topic, association and occurrence elements are temporally serialized, according to the Temporal Layer Model (TLM), to accommodate, and historically preserve, modifications to the knowledge base as world events change.

The paper presents modern simulation techniques using the method of moments (MoM) and the partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) method to deal with electromagnetic emission of printed circuit boards (PCB) with respect to surrounding enclosures. The inclusion of all types of SPICE circuit elements is possible. Reflection and diffraction effects of the emitted field from PCBs at the enclosures can be considered. The combined solution technique with PEEC and MoM easily fits into the industrial workflow while guaranteeing accurate results compared to closed-solution techniques. The approach is illustrated by means of some examples and comparisons with closed-solution techniques and measurements are given.

This paper investigates that resonance of a circular array influences estimation of azimuth of arrival waves for directional borehole radar with Method of Moment (MoM). In the developed radar system, receving dipole array antennas utilyzes optical modulators. Using the array antennas, we will be able to measure electric fields on a circle at several points in a borehole with no electromagnetical disturbance by feed lines, because received signals of the antenna is transmitted by an optical fiber. The dipole antenna array in a borehole can be modeled with MOM. Generally, large number of array elements can improve resolution of directions of arrival waves. However, in dipole array antenna in a borehole, the MOM analysis shows that increase of element number does not always improve the resolution in some condition. This is caused by resonance among antenna elements closely arranged in a borehole. In order to verify the phenomena, we carried out a field experiments. Two boreholes, which are drilled in granite, were used at field experiments site in Osaka, Japan. One dipole antenna was set for transmitter in one borehole. In the other borehole, the seven dipole antennas with the optical modulators on a circle were set for receivers. We measured transmission between the transmitter and the receivers in frequency domain with a network analyzer. As the results, we concluded the first order resonance of the circular array influence estimation of azimuth of arrival waves with the dipole antenna array in a borehole.

Scattering from thin dielectric sheets is encountered in certain practical situations. To simplify the problem, a thin dielectric structure is usually modeled by a resistive sheet. Many approximate solutions have been proposed for the problem, which all are based on the known exact solution for a resistive half plane. However, the resulting solutions contain a transcendental function known as Maliuzhinets function. We have proposed an approximate solution for a thin dielectric object with any size and shape. The solution is represented in terms of a spectral integral whose integrand contains only elementary functions. Based on this formal solution, a uniform solution for bistatic scattering by a thin dielectric strip is formulated for a TM wave incidence. Through comparisons of results calculated by the uniform solution and a numerical method, such as the method of moments (MoM), the new formulation is verified for several cases. One advantage of the new formulation is that it is expressed in terms of elementary functions, and thus it is much easier to understand scattering behavior.

The paper presents a novel method for the the calculation of the dispersion diagram and the phase of the reflection coefficient of planar electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures. The MoM/BI-RME (boundary integral-resonant mode expansion) method is adopted in conjunction with a new technique for the efficient calculation of the dispersion diagram. This technique is based on the tracking of the eigenvalue in the complex plane, and proves more reliable than the search of the determinant zeros. The analysis of the classical uniplanar compact EBG structure is presented.

This paper presents a generalized transmission-line theory which is useful to describe the local radiation effect along almost arbitrary 3D wire structures. For the generalized transmission-line theory, the mathematical structure of the classical telegrapher equation is preserved, while the coefficients (the per-unit-length parameters) are generalized in order to represent the intrinsic behavior of the wire structure. For the double folded stub microstrip structure, the generalized telegrapher equation whose coefficients are determined by dynamic numerical methods can have broadband frequency characteristics. To the investigated microstrip structure as a band stop filter, the S parameters for a frequency band from 3GHz to 18GHz can be calculated by using only one group of the extracted per-unit-length parameters at a frequency of 12GHz, while the generalized telegrapher equation is only established on the central transmission line rather than on the whole structure with the stubs.

A new formalism for modeling electromagnetic propagation on, and scattering from, planar microwave structures is presented. The new technique uses the Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) paradigm to construct an efficient Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm (MLFMA) for evaluating fields generated by electric current sources residing in a layered background medium. Depending on the nature of the microstrip metallization, the proposed scheme achieves a computational complexity of O(N) or O(N log 2 N).

Recently, genetic algorithm/method of moments (GA/MoM) technique has been used as an efficient optimization tool for many antenna design problems. In this paper, a GA/MoM code is developed and used for compressing the size of the wideband log-periodic dipole array (LPDA). The numerical simulations prove that the optimized LPDA with compressed dimensions has nearly the same characteristics of the previously published designs. The optimized LPDA is then applied to a Cantor fractal array design and a multiband behavior is obtained successfully.

The on-chip spiral inductor is a very important component in radio frequency (RF) IC design; however, its accurate analysis is not an easy task, especially when lossy substrate coupling is involved. We present an efficient full wave analysis for an on-chip spiral inductor with the following new techniques: a method of moments (MoM) based mixed potential integral equation (MPIE) is solved with the trapezoidal rooftop basis function; substrate coupling and layered medium effects are captured by the fast Green's function; a Gaussian-quadrature scheme is used to deal with the current distribution singularity at the edge. The method's efficiency and accuracy is demonstrated and good agreement between the method and other methods (include measurement) is achieved.
