Conventional method of moments (MoM) simulation tools assume printed circuit structure with circuit traces backed by infinite substrate and ground plane (Lo and Lee, 1988). These tools have the inherent limitation to model realistic finite-size power bus structure. A surface-volume integral equation formulation solved by MoM is proposed to overcome this limitation. The proposed MoM simulation code allows modeling of radiation from realistic finite-size power bus structure. It also has the flexibility to handle ground discontinuity, such as slots and holes in the ground plane. Some simulation results are shown to demonstrate these flexible features of the MoM code

Examples of environmental monitoring regimes of salmon fish farms are given. Two different approaches with different foci in the environmental work are presented. Norwegian authorities have focused on the benthic impact of fish farming and made a monitoring system according to that. In Scotland, there are detailed requirements for site survey before a site is accepted for fish farming. Examples from the systems are presented.

We have proposed the aperture coupling E-bend with step structure in which the posts around the aperture are kept away from the aperture. A 61.25 GHz model transformer gives 11.4 % bandwidth for the reflection below -25dB. The analysis results predict well the measured bandwidth for the reflection less than -15dB. We have estimated mechanical tolerances and the difference between analysis and experimental results in terms of both the conventional and proposed structures. The step structure shows stable performance against the mechanical tolerance compared to the conventional structure. The proposed structure gives a smaller difference between analysis and measurement results, so the reliability of the analysis model increases.

In simulating electromagnetic scattering problems, one often encounters "two-part" problems, in which each part may be more appropriately solved by a different method. There is also the case where both parts of the problem can be solved using the same method, but one may wish to change one part while keeping the other unchanged. The problem then arises as to how the fields can be combined meaningfully. We explore the use of the cross flux theory, first developed by G.A. Deschamps (see "Electromagnetic Theory and Antennas, Part 1", Pergamon Press, 1963), for combining the simulated scattered fields from two bodies into a meaningful approximation of the fields obtained from simulation of the entire two-body system. Approximations to the original cross flux formulation are presented that allow the Deschamps' formulation to be expressed as a series of higher order terms. This allows control over the accuracy of a problem solved using the cross flux. The approximations of Deschamps' formulation were tested on several 2D canonical problems using the method of moments (MoM). The results show that inclusion of the higher order terms does, in the limit, approach the exact solution.

The efficiency of a full-wave, integral-equation-based simulator is improved by using analytical methods to represent the reaction elements in terms of rapidly computable special functions instead of relying on time consuming numerical integration algorithms. The simulator developed using this strategy is validated by comparing with commercial simulator tools.

In this article three methods are presented to perform the center of gravity defuzzification method: one well known method, the discretisation method, and two new methods, the slope-based method and the modified transformation function method. The methods are worked out for trapezoidal membership functions forming a fuzzy (Ruspini) partition. Experimental results show that the newly introduced methods exhibit excellent accuracy at an extremely low computational cost compared to the widely applied discretisation method.

A spiral antenna is a radiation element that radiates a circularly polarized (CP) wave over a wide frequency bandwidth. The spiral is often backed by a conducting plane to change the inherently bidirectional beam to a unidirectional one. The radiation pattern has been qualitatively and quantitatively investigated (Nakano, H. 1987; Nakano et al., 1988). These investigations show that, as the distance between the spiral and the conducting plane decreases, the capability of the antenna to form a CP beam deteriorates. This paper presents a technique to overcome this deterioration in the formation of the CP beam. The technique is based on modifying the spiral arm into a meander. For analysis of such a spiral antenna, first, a method of moments (MoM) solution to an integral equation for an arbitrarily shaped thin wire printed on a dielectric substrate is presented. Next, the integral equation is applied to a meander printed spiral antenna, which radiates first-mode radiation. The axial ratio is evaluated as a function of the number of meander cells.

A simulation method is proposed and tested in order to determine the radiation force on metal targets, whose size is comparable to wavelength. The method is based on the MoM solution of the electric field integral equation, accurate calculation of the near fields, and removal of the self-interaction terms responsible for the pinch effect. The method is used to determine the local force distribution for a parallel-plate metal resonator and a circular disk resonator at plane wave incidence. It is observed that, at the resonance, the individual metal plates may experience very large local force densities, despite the fact that the net radiation force still remains very small.
