An efficient method for calculating damped critical speeds of a build-in motorized spindle

This paper presents an efficient method for calculating damped critical speeds of a build-in motorized spindle. In this method, the dynamic model of a build-in motorized spindle is established first by an improved Riccati transfer matrix method. Based on the dynamic model, the characteristic polynomial is obtained. Instead of finding all roots of the characteristic polynomial, the argument principle is used to retrieve the number of roots in the effective resonance region which is the most interested region for predicting stability. Then, the micro genetic algorithm is used iteratively to find those roots. Finally, this method is applied to calculate the damped critical speeds of a typical build-in motorized spindle supported by two identical fluid film cylindrical bearings. Numerical results indicate that the present method is efficient and effective.

Numerical predictions of heat transfer under laminar conditions in a square duct with ribs are presented in this paper. Ribs are provided on top and bottom walls in a square duct in a staggered manner. The flow rates have been varied between Reynolds number 200 and 600. Various configurations of ribs by varying length, width and depth have been investigated for their effect on heat transfer, friction factor and entropy augmentation generation number. Further artificial neural network integrated with genetic algorithm was used to minimize the entropy augmentation generation number (performance factor) by selecting the optimum rib dimensions in a selected range. genetic algorithm is compared with microgenetic algorithm to examine the reduction in computational time for outlay of solution accuracy.

This paper presents a three-dimensional optimization method of a meander inductor for high-frequency circuits. The proposed method determines the structure of the meander line using the micro-genetic algorithm in which the eddy current loss and inductance are evaluated by finite element method. It is shown that the total loss composed of the eddy current loss in the magnetic core and Joule loss in the meander line is successfully minimized keeping the inductance to the specified value by this optimization.

In this paper a new model of a Multi-Objective Hierarchical genetic algorithm (MOHGA) based on the micro genetic algorithm (mu GA) approach for Modular Neural Networks (MNNs) optimization is proposed. The proposed method can divide the data automatically into granules or sub modules, and chooses which data are for the training and which are for the testing phase. The proposed Multi-Objective genetic algorithm is responsible for determining the number of granules or sub modules and the percentage of data for training that can allow to have better results. The proposed method was applied to human recognition and its applicability with good results is shown, although the proposed method can be used in other applications such as time series prediction and classification.

We deal with multi-objective Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSSP) with transportation resources constraints herein, where the cost time of loaded and empty Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) cannot be neglected. This problem is a NP-hard problem, whose optimization objectives are to minimize the makespan and total workload of machines. We proposed a multi-objective micro artificial bee colony algorithm (MMABC) to tackle this problem. In MMABC, each solution corresponds to a food source, which is encoded to reflect the assignment of AGV tasks, machine operations, and operation sequence;the smaller bee population is divided in two parts: a replaceable bee part and non-replaceable bee part. We also employed the crossover operator to the employed bee for exchanging the good scheduling. Experimental results on larger examples and comparisons with multi-objective micro genetic algorithm showed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Evolutionary algorithms are a very common technique on computational intelligence field. Some algorithms need a huge amount of memory, making them not so trivial to apply on embedded systems. In this work a profile-based approach is proposed and applied in an evolutionary algorithm with some characteristics that allow its use on embedded systems: the micro-GA. The main goal is to improve the execution time compared to other software algorithms obtaining also an acceptable design time. The results presents comparisons between implementations and discussions about soft-processor features influence on this type of algorithm.

Developing a public EV charging infrastructure in a DSO's perspective: Hosting capacity assessment and grid reinforcements on a real case study

The widespread increase of electric vehicles sales forces Distribution System Operators to evaluate and improve the capability of the distribution system to host distributed charging infrastructures. This paper suggests a procedure to identify grid reinforcements to increase the capability of the system as well as to evaluate the current hosting capacity. The developed procedure is based on a micro-genetic algorithm and its solution identifies the optimal grid reinforcements to be planned on a Medium Voltage network in order to increase the number of charging stations that can be connected. The procedure requires the model of the network, the yearly load profiles of the secondary substations and the algorithm output takes into account an envisioned budget to be spent, avoiding network violations and an iniquitous distribution of the charging stations. The procedure was firstly validated considering a 70 nodes test network. Furthermore, the real case study of the distribution system of the city of Terni was assessed focusing on one of its main subnetwork with 471 nodes;the procedure was exploited to assess the current hosting capacity and to estimate that on average 0.01 Meuro has to be spent on grid reinforcements in order to further increase hosting capacity.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Allocation Method for Multi-Service Irregular Frequency-Using Devices in the Space-Air-Ground Integrated Network

The management and allocation of electromagnetic spectrum resources is the inner driving force of the construction of the space-air-ground integrated network. Existing spectrum allocation methods are difficult to adapt to the scenario where the working bandwidth of multi-service frequency-using devices is irregular and the working priorities are different. In this paper, an orthogonal genetic algorithm based on the idea of mixed niches is proposed to transform the problem of frequency allocation into the optimization problem of minimizing the electromagnetic interference between frequency-using devices in the integrated network. At the same time, a system model is constructed that takes the minimum interference effect of low-priority-to-high-priority devices as the objective function and takes the protection frequency and natural frequency as the constraint conditions. In this paper, we not only introduce the thought of niches to improve the diversity of the population but also use an orthogonal uniform crossover operator to improve the search efficiency. At the same time, we use a standard genetic algorithm and a micro genetic algorithm to optimize the model. The global searchability and local search precision of the proposed algorithm are all improved. Simulation results show that compared with the existing methods, the proposed algorithm has the advantages of fast convergence, strong stability and good optimization effect.
