Assignment of unexpected tasks in embedded system design process

Embedded systems design process focuses on three areas: modeling, validation and implementation. Typically such procedure assumes constant number of tasks in every instance of designing procedure. Thus the designer must predict all possible tasks executed by the system. Serious problems appear when the system has to execute unexpected tasks. In this case the design process must be repeated. We propose a new approach in embedded system design process which covers such situation. In the approach unexpected tasks are assigned to previously allocated resources. Therefore the system can execute more tasks that were predicted by the designer. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This article deals with design and development of low cost laboratory plant for control system education. The apparatus includes DC motor with incremental quadratic encoder. The Arduino platform is used to realize digital control system. It is also possible to use Raspberry Pi to interact with laboratory plant and REX Control System to design control algorithm. This paper describes implementation of the Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) algorithm using a microcontroller with the ARM Cortex R5 core. Two versions of the DMC algorithm are considered: the classical one and the simplified one. It is shown that the latter one needs much shorter calculation time, but give the same control quality. Moreover, the influence of tuning parameters of the DMC algorithm on the calculation time is studied experimentally. The obtained implementation of the DMC algorithm can be used in very fast embedded system, with short sampling periods. Results of real experiment are demonstrated for Hercules RM57L843 LaunchPad board from Texas Instruments. (C) 2018, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Aiming at increased lighting comfort, new types of light fixtures may currently be seen that may not only be dimmed, but can also adjust the temperature of the light. The ability to adjust the brightness and color temperature is not only supposed to create a pleasant atmosphere, but it may also have a positive effect on human organism, especially if luminaries can be controlled to get as close as possible to the dynamics of natural light. The change in color temperature is known to affect the production of the melatonin hormone in the human body. This capacity is especially useful in situations where we need to increase the alertness of people working at night and thus increase their performance when carrying out certain tasks. This paper deals with the design of a low-cost solution for the power supply units of LED light fittings able to adjust the brightness and temperature of light aiming to achieve the best electrical parameters. While working on the design, the possibility of adding other electronic components to the power supply was considered, which would further increase its usefulness in the future. Experimental results of the power supply efficiency measurements for different control frequencies are presented.
